Product Description

science will figure you out is the debut full-length from Soltero and the first release on Kentuckyland records. The music? One part inspiration traceable to such musicians as Yo La Tengo, Neil Young, Slint, Fugazi, Bright Eyes, Unrest, The Beatles, The Pogues, Portastatic, The Karl Hendricks Trio, The Cure; and one part that je ne sais quoi that makes the music greater than the sum of the influences.

Recorded with the Mobius Band of Amherst, Mass.

Review

Science Will Figure You Out is truly great, immediately embraced by anyone it's played for. -- Peter Hanlon, Northeast Performer (December 2001)

Howard's songs are entrancing, and the group's calmly energetic presence adds even more likable shine. -- Ken Mairui, Daily Hampshire Gazette (Februrary 2002)

Howard's way with a pop song is fresh and always intriguing, sometimes reminding us of Lou Reed.... -- Leicester Bangs, UK zine (May 2002)

This is an earlier Soltero album, but it's still a classic. From the guitar-line of "Memorial Drive" that slides like ice across a hot iron, to the unexpected drum machine that bursts into "The Priest," to the genius lyrics of "Communist Love Song" that compare love to Cold War politics ("If you're ever less than certain, I will be you iron curtain, I will be your Berlin Wall, and I will never fall." Man!) This album is the type you will have to eventually rebuy because, if you don't wear it out first, your friends will steal it from you. I'd bet at least one of the copies for sale on Amazon used to belong to me....
Buy this album. Buy his latest, "Hell Train." Buy everything Soltero records. (...).

Hey this is my cousin's band and if you haven't checked them out you really should. They play at mostly local clubs around the Boston area so if you're in the area go to a show you won't be dissapointed.
They have a new album out too. It's called "Defrocked and Kicking the Habit" so if you like the first one then check out the new one. You can buy their CDs at solterosongs.com or handsomerecords.com.
