My son received this chemistry kit for Christmas and LOVES it! We both love the hands-on educational experience. The directions are clear and all items are contained in the kit for numerous discoveries. It just happens to be the same thing he's learning in school right now! We'll be purchasing the other kits in this line, as well!

I have plenty of Energy Wiz kits. They are all very educational. This Light kit one has plenty of nice guided experiments!

✔ Has multiple projects, not just one
✔ pH measurements, electrons, protons, crystals, and many more. I have some close up photos of the kit before we started tearing them apart! Do check out in image sections! -- Very cool.
✔ Takes about 10 days to explore all experiments. I recommend doing one experiment a day learning concepts along the way
✔ Everything is in a compact box
✔ My daughter started exploring on her at age 9
✔ Highly motivational. As parents we should encourage and get right things for kids. This is in alignment with MAKER Faire philosophy that people need physical things also to explore and get them motivated on science and math. Highly recommended

This chemistry set seemed more geared to 6-8 year olds, (with supervision, of course). not "8 yrs and up". Only 3 actual chemicals, to make things blow up (there's more to chemistry than that!!) and pages of "cut out molecules and put them on sticks" - totally a rip-off! Or is this what passes for 'chemistry' today? Where are the chemistry sets from the 60's and 70's, with the full complement of substances and experiments? Not nearly "Chemistry +" - more like Chemistry Minus.

There are many interesting chemistry concepts you can expose to an enthusiastic youngster. I bought this kit for my son's eighth birthday. Found there weren't many experiments to try, explanations in the manual were simplistic, and key components were fragile and arrived broken. If it were more expensive and I felt my son would have cared, I would have asked for a replacement.

This is a pretty neat set, although if you buy it, be prepared to spend around 30 more dollars to get all the items necessary to complete the experiments.

Bought this for my 6-year-old son. There are only a handful of "experiments" one can do with the kit, one of them simply being to look at some grains of table salt through a magnifying glass. Imagine how long a 6-year-old will be enthralled with such excitement!!!

Anyway, just about every one of the projects requires one or two more additional items or ingredients not included in the kit. So parents, be warned. You'll be making separate trips to the hardware store as soon as you open the box.

I purchased this Chemistry Set for my 10 year old nephew, it has created a passion for chemistry! He found it so interesting that he is now memorizing the periodic table. I recommend this set for anyone child with a desire to create and learn new things.

This kit is terrific; it's simple, and doesn't try to distract you with a bunch of crappy pieces, just the essentials. My 8 year old daughter is loving this, but one BIG warning; the first experiment is terrific, but the kit DOES NOT warn you that when you electrolyse salt water, you are liberating chlorine gas as well as hydrogen! 2NaCl + 2H2O → Cl2 + H2 + 2NaOH I don't think it is in any significant quantity, but if you get a snorkful of it from the positive gas tube, it will be unpleasant! Also, NaOH is a product (aka caustic soda or lye). You begin this experiment with something nontoxic, and wind up with something that you really don't want your kids poking around in.

That said, I love that this kit focuses on actually learning something about chemistry, as compared to most other kits that have you mix X and Y together to get some brightly colored snot-like substance, without much actual educational merit.
