Product Description

Product Description

Get ready to create 25 light projects right at home with the ScienceWiz Light kit. Split light into a cascade of rainbows, make a kaleidoscope, microscope and telescope, mold lenses, capture a shadow, box a camera, diffract with feathers, play the I Spy game with mirrors and solve a filter puzzle - all in with one kit. WOW!

Step-by-step instructions lead a child successfully through each activity. The full color illustrations present central scientific concepts which allow children to discover the "why" as well as the "how" of these great projects. Bring the fun and learning further by utilizing the animations that compliment the book on the ScienceWiz website to deepen and extend comprehension.

The award winning ScienceWiz line got its start in 1995 when we released our first title ScienceWiz Electricity. Our line of science kits stemmed from Dr. Penny Norman's volunteer work teaching science in her children's elementary schools and her ScienceWiz after school and summer programs. With initial development supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Franklin Foundation, each of our kits is created with the goal of teaching fundamental scientific concepts to children through hands-on play. From our offices in El Sobrante, CA we work hard towards our goal of providing children a basic foundation in science. Each new title we release is focused on a distinct topic. With so many disciplines in science, our work may never be finished. Along the way, we hope to inspire young minds to love learning as much as we do.

My 6 year old son loves this science kit. It contains some very well thought out activities with easy to follow instructions (although, for a 6 year old, you're oging to be helping along). Not just a toy...it really does teach some fundamental physics.

Having purchased the Light kit, I'm going to get some more of them.

Oh, and by the way, the grown-ups will probably like playing with this kit as well :-)

For the rpice, you just can't go wrong in my opinion.

This kit may look fun, but it is very deceiving. The light sticks pictured on the cover shows two large objects, when in fact, the kit only contains one, very small, light stick (the size of a child's hand). I returned it as soon as I received it. The contents inside were covered with white dust that had leaked out of an exploded battery. In addition, the motor simply did not work no matter how we tried to connect it, and we tried several different ways to get it to work. I'm very disappointed in this product and its packaging, given its previous positive reviews.

This is a great kit packed with information.

However the included LED light saber can be a hazard as the light coming from tip is too powerful and kids (or even adults) who would be temped to look into it could be hurting their eyes.

Also I have a suggestion for small improvement. They include small red, green and blue transparent sheets that are supposed to be cut up for the Kaleidoscope. Instead I found these to be valuable to show how white light (say sunlight) passing through these sheets will become colored. These are also useful to show how different colors can be overlapped to create new colors. Seems a much neater way to explain the concept rather than mixing messy colored liquids (not inlcuded in the kit, anyway).

Otherwise, this is an awesome kit.

I have plenty of Energy Wiz kits. They are all very educational. This Light kit one has plenty of nice guided experiments!

✔ Has multiple projects, not just one
✔ Split light into a cascade of rainbows, make a kaleidoscope, microscope and telescope, mold lenses, capture a shadow, box a camera -- Very cool.
✔ Takes about 10 days to explore all experiments. I recommend doing one experiment a day learning concepts along the way
✔ Everything is in a compact box
✔ My daughter started exploring on her at age 9
✔ Highly motivational. As parents we should encourage and get right things for kids. This is in alignment with MAKER Faire philosophy that people need physical things also to explore and get them motivated on science and math. Highly recommended

This was bought as a Christmas gift for my grand daughter who just turned 12. She is very inquisitive and wants to know everything about science. She was delighted. The price was 20% below my local "Hobby Lobby" store, and came 5-days after I placed my online order. Good service from Amazon's partner!

The package picture is very misleading. It is more about experimenting with the rays of light, the sabers, not so much. Don't buy it in the winter when sunlight is scarce.

They made this looks like there was a lot to do and there wasn't. It was very childish. Not for 10 year olds.

My son was disappointed at the fact there is only one small light stick when the cover shows to light sticks battling each other. The cover of the box shows light sticks that look about 12 inches long when the real product is only about 5 or 6 inches.
