The Bel-Art Scienceware F371580010 Spinpak includes 10 octagonal magnetic stir bars of different colors and sizes, for a range of laboratory stirring applications, and a restrainer for capturing the stir bar during pouring. The octagonal shape creates more turbulence and a stronger vortex than a round, cylindrical shape or a polygonal shape. The bar's internal magnet is made from alnico V (an alloy of aluminum, nickel, iron, and cobalt). The magnet sits inside a Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE) casing, which is chemically inert, can be used with corrosive chemicals, and helps reduce friction and wear while spinning. A built-in pivot ring on the stir bars minimizes contact between the bar and the container to help reduce vibration and wear during stirring.
