3.0 out of 5 stars difficult to build, June 10, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Scientific Explorer's Rocket Car Science Kit (Toy)
i am 14 years old and i had just finished building this rocket. i got this as a christmas present 5+ years ago and just discovered it recently. i was very astonished when i found this on amazon.com. so when i first decided to build it, i brought it to my friends house thinking i'd be able to slap it together in minutes. i took one look at the instructions and i knew it would take a while. so later the weekend i began to get serious with it. the instructions were terrible! they made little sense! before i read another review from a woman who had to have her mechanicley inclined husband build it i thought i was stupid since it said 8+ But after yelling at the box for beholding such a complicated toy, i slowly resurrected it closely following the instructions and looking at the pictures to make sure it was coming out right. 30 minutes to midnight, IT WAS COMPLETE!(it took a wicked long time to build it if you catch my drift) like what the review from "tired cog" said, i did too have to get pliers to bend the axle. when i launched it, it did ok. i have to find out the best vinegar to baking soda ratio still and i have to staighten the front axle. in about 5 minutes, you would have wasted over a pint in vinegar so it is very fuel unefficient. i actually only reccomend this for kids 12+ because if i had tried to build this when i was eight i would get so fustrated i would throw it across the room and set it on fire! maybe i will purchase another one since i know how to build it now and it will be much easier to build again

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, once you finally build it..., November 25, 2007
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Scientific Explorer's Rocket Car Science Kit (Toy)
This rocket car took my very mechanically-inclined husband 3 hours to build. It required very precise measuring and cutting of foil tape, foam, and nearly all the parts. He even needed to use pliers to bend the axles properly. The instructions were extremely complex; there is no way a child could understand them, let alone actually build the car. An eight year old (the toy is recommended for 8 and up) can play with this car, but certainly not build it. It was a lot of fun to shoot off on our street, and ours went straight ahead. But it was an agonizing 3 hours to get there.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing, January 31, 2007
This review is from: Scientific Explorer's Rocket Car Science Kit (Toy)
I would probably buy this again, but I was a bit disappointed. It would be better if it came at least partially pre-assembled. Product cost was steep, and the rocket car was not as easy to build as one would like. After we built it, and followed the directions for launching, it went crooked. However, we still had fun, and it was a good opportunity to discuss chemical reaction, thrust, and of course counting down to "blast Off" was fun too. I plan to use some of the parts from the rocket car to build a smaller version, which hopefully will be less inclined to wander off at a slant.
