5.0 out of 5 stars A Collection of Well-Written Essays on Life--A Great Read!
In this book Hubbard shines as an essayist. Like the finale of a fireworks show, it's just one well-written essay after another.

With titles like, "Is it possible to be happy?" and "How to live with children," there is something in here for everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Read it yourself.
Well, I guess one could say from the above that after reading this you will either be a lover or a hater of this book, or one who just doesn't write reviews. It actually is one of my favorite books, and is one of my favorite books for introducing people to Scientology(as I am a Scientologist). But read the book for yourself. You decide. Think for yourself.

With titles like, "Is it possible to be happy?" and "How to live with children," there is something in here for everyone.

While not an essay on the specifics of Scientology (see the book "What is Scientology?" for that), it does give the flavor of Scientology philosophy: an accent on ability, awareness and responsibility.

You'll feel better just reading this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is GENUINE help in a difficult world., October 21, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Scientology: A New Slant On Life (Mass Market Paperback)

I first read NEW SLANT ON LIFE in 1978. It pulled me out of the messes I had created, and it gave me the ability to change my life forever.

A lot of people and things have told us they would help, and they were not true, or they were not effective, and we felt disappointed or even betrayed.

NEW SLANT ON LIFE is true. It is genuine help, and it is possible to apply it to life. Right now. Today.

I wish you the happiness it has brought me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many thought-provoking essays on life, December 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Scientology: A New Slant On Life (Mass Market Paperback)
These essays are well worth reading. I have read many, many philosophical books, and this one is presented very clearly from an obviously enlightened man. After reading this, I decided to look further into the writings of Mr. Hubbard, and I will tell you, his books are very interesting and definitely thought-provoking.

If you are like me and like to really *look* at the world, yourself, and how things really work around us, then get this book and see what all the hoopla is REALLY about!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Answers to Real Life, August 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Scientology: A New Slant On Life (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book! With chapter titles like "Is It Possible To Be Happy?", "Two Rules For Happy Living", and "Honest People Have Rights, Too", Hubbard covers alot of ground in helping to understand "Life". He describes how a person gets to be in the state they are, and gives real solutions. I found some tools in this book that are nowhere else...and I've looked! The paperback is great! No qualms about underlining particularly useful parts, or lines that immediately make sense. I read 5 to 6 books a month, and this one is a keeper

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will make your life improve dramatically., August 6, 1998

I read this book one year ago and my life is still improving because of it. The people that have given negative reviews on this book could not have read it. I wish them the best, perhaps someday they'll realize that their venom really only poisons themselves. If you read this book with understanding and actually put it to use in your life I am 100% certain things will improve for you tremendously. Good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straight forward, practical and simple to use ideas., August 13, 1997
By
This review is from: Scientology: A New Slant On Life (Mass Market Paperback)
Not the usual vague platitudes or psycho-babble of most "self-help" books. I read this book and immediately saw direct application of the author's ideas to my life. I was able to help someone else with what I learned, even before I finished the book! The concepts are simply stated and very applicable to real life. The author invites the reader to try the presented ideas and decide for him or her self if they work. I did and they do

5.0 out of 5 stars Personal Story, November 4, 2004
This review is from: Scientology: A New Slant On Life (Mass Market Paperback)
There was a chapter that changed my life and my idea on effort. The Chapter "Anatomy of Failure" explained that a person's downfall comes from things not happening the way they want. This was true for me. My life was a long chain of failures and I was miserable from failing. So, the change came with the advice to intend for life to keep on happening the way life keeps on happening--and a healthier way of living to try to change things for the better BUT not to be broken hearted when failure occurs. Hello! I thought I always had to be gung-ho and do or die and I was just killing myself because not everything goes my way. So I was stupid. I guess this is a confession, not a review. However, each chapter is a different subject and an excellent insight into the scope of the Scientology religion. Don't be scar'd! Books don't bite.

Having read hundreds of self-help and life philosophy books, this one tops my list. Mr. Hubbard captured incredibly powerful truths within a simple framework. Easy to read yet providing extremely powerful principles, I have used this material to build a successful business and happy life. This book showed me better ways to tap into my inner power.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Truth than Tomes of Philosophy, August 14, 1997
This review is from: Scientology: A New Slant On Life (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book refreshingly simple and applicable to everyday life. Since reading and incorporating "The Two Rules To Happy Living" in my life, I have found it much easier to handle difficult situations! Another chapter I found particularly useful was "How to Live With Children." Following the advice given there, even when it seemed different from the "accepted norm," has produced very good results.

Although the intellectual exercise of understanding the great philosophers of the past can be interesting, I found more truth in the straightforward approach to life covered in this book. I want to read everything I can find by this author
