5.0 out of 5 stars Good book, no matter your philosophy/religion, October 19, 2009
I've read this book a few years ago and I'm about to read it for the second time. I'm not a scientologist nor do I plan to become one. I've never read any other scientology book or pamphlet.

As far as philosopy is concerned, this book didn't reveal anything especially new or astounding to me.

The value of it is in the manner in which it teaches one to control their thoughts instead of allowing their thoughts to control them. If you have a phobia, problems with procrastination, a goal you wish to reach, a tendency to give yourself negative feedback, or if you just wish to change for other reasons, this book effectively teaches you to (to put it as simply as possibly) have your CONSCIOUS mind control your subconscious mind. For too many people, the opposite is true. Do you want to start your own business, but have a nagging voice tell you that you've never been successful and shouldn't expect to be now? Do you consciously say that you will do something important today, and your subconscious tells you it can wait? Why are you allowing your subconscious mind to stop you from what you consciously decided you want to do? This book really helps you in addressing this problem.

Again, I'm not a scientologist and don't intend to become one. Wisdom doesn't come in the vehicle of only one religion, one language, one culture, one philosophy. Don't allow your mistrust of the religions or cultures of others impede your acceptance of wisdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Understanding Of Life, November 5, 1997
By A Customer
This book goes over the basics of Scientology and explains them in a fascinating and practical way.

This was the first book I read on the subject and I think what I enjoyed about it the most was that I could try out the ideas for myself. I didn't just have to believe or accept anything, the book challenged me to think for myself.

The datum that the hightest purpose in the universe is the creation of effect explained to me a great deal about the behavior of myself and others and actually made me much more tolerant of others.

The chapter on games and how they apply to life enabled me to see where I was getting involved with activities that were not what I really wanted and I was then able to make changes so I was doing what I wanted and I felt much happier with myself and my life.

I could go on, but I would fill up the whole page.

I will end by saying that I recommend this book highly. Read it and make your life go the way you want it to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to read, ignore the hagiographic reviews, January 13, 2012
By
This is an other book I was forced to buy and read when I joined the "Church" of Scientology. I had to read it with a dictionary next to me, and I'm not stupid or uneducated, but the book is full of the most complicated words you can possibly find and explains nothing in great detail.

If I was still in the cult I would be saying the same things some of the other praising reviewers say about it, but I'm free to tell the truth now, don't buy this book.
