Wonderful start to a new series!,

This review is from: Scions: Resurrection (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
What a truly wonderful book!! I totally fell in love with Jachin! What a fine alpha hero!! And with such a heart!! Yuuuuummmmm!
And I loved Ariel, who had just enough innocence, humor, strength and pluck! There was action, suspense, caring and love all rolled into this. I so love the kind of book that makes me want the family to go away(only for a little while!!) And the kind that I can't stop thinking about the characters and what's to happen next, when I've had to put it down to do something else!! And Scions:Resurrection was this kind. I cannot wait for the next in the series; Scions:Insurrection. What a GREAT read. I loved, loved, LOVED this book!!! I've already started rereading it!!

A CK2S Recommended Read! Vampires are extinct... or are they? Ariel's family was slaughtered by vampires and she's the only one left. Hoping to conquer her fear of the monsters once and for all, she wrote a vampire romance novel intending for it to purge the horror from her mind. Unfortunately, all it did was cause a huge controversy over the existence of vampires... and bring her to the attention of the Sanguinas. The Sanguinas are a vampire clan hiding out in the forests, just trying to survive in a world where human blood is deadly to them. Jachin was banished from the Sanguinas and made to live in human society, hiding his true nature from everyone, and killing for money. When he discovers a supposedly fictional novel based on the very prophecy that has kept his hopes alive, believing that someday vampires would once again be able to live free. He knows he has part of the answer - if only he can get Ariel to the vampire leader who banished him, to fulfill the prophecy. Jachin never counted on falling for the stubborn woman. I've never read a Patrice Michelle novel before since she writes primarily erotica, but since Resurrection is a Nocturne I knew the heat level would be dialed down a bit. Then there is the fact that the story sounded so wonderful that I just couldn't resist. What a fantastic book! Action levels are intense and high, keeping the book fast paced and engrossing. The romance is beautifully done, with so much conflict and tension between Ariel and Jachin that we wonder how they will ever make it at the same time we know they are meant for each other. World building is brilliantly done, with Resurrection taking place in a near future society. Here, the vampires are a failed laboratory experiment and human blood has somehow become poisoned, forcing the vampires to rely on each other for the nourishing blood they require. What a great concept. While this in itself isn't exactly a new idea, Patrice Michelle handles it with finesse, making it become fresh and exciting. Of course, knowing Patrice Michelle is known for her erotic romance stories, I expected the heat to rise as soon as Ariel and Jachin meet. The sexual tension between them is intense, sparking the moment Jachin flies in to throw Ariel over his shoulder and whisk her away to safety (but was it really safe?) from her newly indentified enemies. Sparks fly every time Ariel and Jachin are together and when they finally break down, caving under the pressure of their undeniable attraction, the love scenes will singe your fingers with their intensity. I found Resurrection to be a sexy and satisfying read that I hated having to put away so I could take care of those mundane things in life like work and sleep. While this volume in the series is complete in and of itself, the ending hints and future events sure to be delved into with future books in the series. I was left hungering for more of the exciting Scions world, eager to know what is still to come. © Kelley A. Hartsell, December 2007. All rights reserved.

Scions,
This review is from: Scions: Resurrection (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ariel Swanson never meant the book she wrote to be more than an exercise in overcoming her fear of vampires. However, now she finds herself in the midst of protests for and against her book and a media frenzy because of it. The most unexpected result is Ariel coming to the attention of vampires - vampires that the entire world believes extinct and who now are pursuing Ariel to violent results. But when Ariel is kidnapped by Jachin, a "rogue" vampire, things get even more complicated as Ariel becomes a pawn of the power plays of the vampire community and in relation to a prophecy of dubious validity.
Jachin Black has survived the last ten years as a rogue by not even considering the alternative and becoming a proficient killer for hire. But when Jachin accidentally comes across Ariel Swanson's book. he believes that he has found the answer to the prophecy that he has hung all his hopes on - the prophecy that speaks of a brighter future for the vampire community. When Jachin kidnaps Ariel, they are constantly pursued and attacked by other members of the paranormal community trying to prevent Jachin and Ariel from reaching their goal. Will Jachin be able to fulfill the prophecy or will they be stopped before they even try? Resurrection is a vampire romance that starts off with a blast and continues with non-stop action until the exciting finale. The storyline is an interesting take on the vampire myth and how they relate to the "normal" world. Ariel makes an interesting heroine as she is reluctant to become part of anything involving vampires due to traumatic experiences in her past. However, while her change of heart is touching and expected, it occurs so quickly that you can almost miss it if you are not paying attention. Jachin is a hard man due to circumstance - not preference, but when he was exiled from his home he is forced to do many things to survive. As Jachin and Ariel come together, they will heat you up with their undeniable passion and leave you wanting for more even if the dialogue is a little silly at times. Resurrection is an entertaining read that will keep you on the edge of your seat with the non-stop action. Sabella reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

A GREAT SURPRISE!!,
This review is from: Scions: Resurrection (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
What a wonderful twist to the usual worn out vampire novel. Ariel Swanson is a headstrong female with loads of gumption. She collides w/Jachin Black, the alpha male vampire and a marvelous journey begins for anyone who is lucky enough to open this book and tag along for an inspiring, imaginative ride through a world of distrust & loyalty filled with hate, fear and love. Try it you'll love it!

SCIONS: RESURRECTION is the first book in a trilogy by Patrice Michelle for Silhouette's Nocturne series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Patrice Michelle writes a fast-paced romance with complex characters and a wonderful plot. It is fun to watch the characters as they grow and learn about themselves and their destiny.
The story centers around timid writer Ariel Swanson, who is terrified of vampires, and Jachin Black, a vampire who hates humans. While they fight for their lives, they realize they can trust each other and learn to love. They learn that hatred and fear have no place in their future and work to restore peace in their home. This was the first book by Patrice Michelle that I have read and I hated to put it down. It is the type of story that you can't stop thinking about, and I can not wait for the other two to come out. I highly recommend this to everyone, even if you don't normally like paranormal romance. This one is a keeper!

True Grit,
This review is from: Scions: Resurrection (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I've ever read by Patrice Michelle. Scions: Resurrection is fantastic. It's not your usual soft and fluffy romance. This book has depth, grit and adventure that I didn't expect in a Silhouette novel. I love the character development of the heroine, Ariel. She morphs from a quiet librarian into a 'surprising to her' strong female that wears her bluster and bravado as a shield, even though she's shaking in her shoes. The hero, Jachin, does an opposite metamorphosis, due only to his unwanted developing desire and grudging respect toward Ariel. He unashamedly detests humans and is forced to revise his opinion of the entire race from his experiences with a single tiny woman into whose company he is forced - Ariel. His love for her breaks down barriers and makes him vulnerable as never before. The non-stop action/adventure in this book appealed to me greatly. The heart-tugging, seriously hot romance in this book hooked me completely. You'll have to buy the book to read the details. I'm going out to purchase all of Patrice Michelle's books. Thanks for a great read Ms. Michelle!

A New Series, A New Year,

Vampires are extinct......aren't they?
When new author Ariel Swanson writes a book about vampires, she was hoping it would be cathargic for her. Helping her deal with the fact that years ago vampires had killed her entire family, and terrorized the rest of the population until they apparently died out. Her book however brings her to the attention of the vampires who had been hiding for the last quarter of a century. It especially brings her to the attention of vampire Jachin Black - a vampire that's been banished from his clan. Ariel unknowingly writes a prophecy at the start of her book the - The Vampire's Return that has so much detail that one of the few vampires who actualy beleives in the prophecy is shocked. It's a prophecy that Jacchin believes in so strongly he will go to any lengths to help make it come to pass. A chance for peace among vampires and humans. In this first book of the Scions trilogy, author Patrice Michelle gives us the chance to find out if such a peace is possible. She gives us a solid background and characters that are more than just one dimensional. This is a harder and darker paranormal romance, and it has depth and an adventure I didn't want to see end.

Action Packed Romance,

If you like your romance with a lot of action, like I do, you'll enjoy this offering by Patrice Michelle. Jachin Black is hot hot hot! Exactly the kind of vampire I'd like to meet in a dark alley.

The biggest problem with the book is the leading lady, Ariel. Her character was totally inconsistant and it wasn't long before I wanted her to die.
As for the story, it seems like Michelle made a list of ideas she liked and wrote this story as a way of checking them off.

After reading this book I came back to check the reviews to see where I went wrong. Nope, I didn't misread... this book has solid five star ratings! I guess I'm the only one who didn't like it.
There isn't anything glaringly wrong with the story, so perhaps it's just my own personal preferences, but I just thought this book was mediocre at best. The plot had potential but I found the main characters to be flat and slightly annoying, and I felt like their relationship was predictable, forced, and by the end of the story I just wasn't invested enough to care whether they lived happily ever after. I actually skimmed the last third of the book just to finish it. It's your typical vampire romance, no more no less. Vampire meets girl, girl is scared of vampire, they are strangely attracted to eachother while simultaneously being chased by bad guys and trying to reach a specific destination, somewhere along the way they fall in love, yada yada yada. I'm giving the book two stars because it felt like a cookie-cutter story to me. I didn't find it engaging or enjoyable; however, that's just my opinion and it's possible you might like this book, other people apparently did. |
