In this book, Terry Brooks sets the stage for a wonderful epic. I won't attempt to detail it here. Read it for yourself. I will say that several characters are introduced that play almost no part in this book. You may wonder where they are and what happened to them. This book also concludes with many loose ends still dangling. So you should approach is as merely a component of the entire epic story. Don't even bother trying to read this one apart from the others in the heritage of shanara line.

While still remaining true to the world he created, Terry Brooks has spun a tale that surpasses his first works. I guess we as readers should not be surprised that Mr. Brooks has become a better storyteller over time. I felt that this book had all the excitement and fun of the original Shanara trilogy, with none of the slow moving plodding painful ebbs in the storyline.

I think that "The Scions of Shannara" was one of the best books that I have read. It was very exciting, had a good plot, and always attracted me to read on. I think this was a great book to start off the Heritage of Shannara series.

"The Scions of Shannara" is about 3 Scions of Shannara: Par Ohmsford, Wren, and Walker Boh. They are the 3 main characters, but there are other important characters like Coll (Par's brother), Morgan Leah (Par and Coll's good friend), Steff and Teel (two Dwarves that help Par and his friends), Padishar Creel (the leader of the Resistance agains the Federation), Damson Rhee (a very important woman who helps the Resistance, and has a surprise at the end), Cogline (the "failed Druid" that tells all the Scions of Shannara to meet at the Hadeshorn), and Allanon (the dead Druid whose spirit came back and explained to the Scions what they must accomplish in order to rid the world of Shadowen, the evil, magic creatures). Once the Scions meet at the Hadeshorn Allanon reveals a terrible future and tells Par to recover the long-lost Sword of Shannara, Wren to discover the vanished Elves, and Walker Boh to bring back the Druids and thier ancient Paranor that has disappeared. All of these tasks are near to impossible.

I think that "The Scions of Shannara" is an excellent book, and I would recommend it to people of all ages. The Shannara series is a great series, and I'm already reading the next book in the series. I would like to congradulate Terry Brooks for an outstanding book.

This book is exciting and suspenseful. It has many interesting characters in it and a fast plot line that always makes you want to read more. If adventure or fantasy books interest you, you should read this book. It takes you through a unique land with many different types of animals and people. You should read this book because of the vivid descripctions that draw you in. Follow Par Ohmsford's nearly impossible quest to get a long-lost sword. I enjoyed reading this book for all these reasons and think everyone should read it too. This book is full of exciting material and is a thriller for all readers.

I expected that Brooks' new series not to be as good .I expected it to get repetiteve.I was wrong .It is not at all repetetive ,in fact ,Brooks added some political detail that he lacked in the other books,but it isn't pointless political
detail.Brooks still has his superb detail in magic ,which is one of the reasons that he is one of my favorite authors.It also was perfectly legitimate to write it.Anyone might wonder what life is like in the Four Lands after all the Druids are gone .This is the plot:The Four Lands have drastically changed since the death of Allanon.The Elves have vanished and Callahorn,The Dwarves ,and the Southland are in the hands of the Federation,where magic is strictly illegal.Par Ohmsford still has the power of the Wishsong ,causing himself to be pursued by Seekers (Federation police).While he flees,he stumbles upon Cogline ,a once Druid.Cogline tells him that he ,his cousin Wren,and his uncle Walker Boh are needed by the shade of Allanon.Par finds Walker and they meet Wren at the Hadeshorn.Allanon tells each of them to do one thing :Par to recover the Sword of Shannara ,Walker to bring back the Druids and the keep of Paranor ,and Wren to find the vanished Elves .
This book is about Par,his brother Coll,Morgan Leah,Steff and Teel the Dwarves,and a couple others on there search for the Sword of Shannara.P.S.The next one is about Walker etc.

The federation is starting to take over the four lands out ruling magic but Par and his brother Coll still use it trying not to let the people forget the stories. With the federation chasing them they journey throughout the lands and find themselves sent on a mission to find the Sword of Shannara. If they don't find it the Shadowen, creatures made entirely of magic will rule the lands and humans will be their slaves.

I really like the way Terry Brooks described Par and Coll as people just like everyone today. They have a very good bond ad brothers and what Par does Coll will do even if he doesn't agree. He does it to protect and be with his brother. Coll is completely against going after the Sword because it's been lost for three hundred years but when Par insists he goes along with it. I also like the subject. It is a fantasy book and it talks about creatures completely made of magic and they only way to destroy them is by using magic against them. It also talks about the federation rule and how the Shadowen and federation are connected in some way but nobody knows how. Throughout the hardships the three that were sent on a mission must over come all difficulties and complete the mission or horrid things will start to happen.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy because it is really good and Terry Brooks has the ability to hook the reader in and you want to finish the book and read the others.

This book was interesting. I think that it was a little bit dejavu. It seems like this story has happened before in the first 3 books. One magical and one non-magical country kid are asked to go on a journey. Someone says its not a good idea. They fight some Shadowen that seem very similar to the Skull Berers. But this is still a good book. Its pretty much is the beggining of the end of the books because the next 3 books after this all have the same characters. This books starts out all of their jorneys. Par and Coll are brothers and they run into a guy named Pashidar Creel. He's Panamon's great grandson or something. He plays a scoundroul much like his ancester. Another Scion is Walker Boh. He's the coolest of all the Scions. Because he has powerful magic, yet he deciedes not to use it. He makes friends with a giant Cat. The last Scion is Wren. She is kinds Elfish. She is friends with a Rover named Garth, he is like her mentuor. So all the Scions are asked by Allanon in a dream to come to the Druid lake. I won't tell you what happens but its really cool so read this book and the ones after. You won't regret it.

if you haven't read this book than do it..this is the best series of books in the Fantasy genre that I've ever read...Terry Brooks really knows how to capture once attention...I couldn't stop reading the book after I've read the first page...

This book is written in typical Brooks fashion; lots of action and suspense. The characters come to life and you actually feel that they are a part of you. Again, the Ohmsford family is at the center of the story. This time, the brothers Par and Coll, as well as Wren and Walker Boh, are each given different quests by the shade Allanon, who has been dead for 300 years. The Shadowen have appeared and threaten to destroy the Four Lands unless they can be stopped. Par is to find the legendary Sword of Shannara, Walker is to find the Black Elfstone which will restore the Druids, and Wren is to discover the missing Elves. Other intriguing characters are introduced, such as Padashar Creel, Steff, Teel, and Garth. The action in this book is intense, and the characters come to life. I have read the first Shannara series, as well as the Landover series and the Word and Void series, and this is book is one of the best.

This is without a doubt one of the top three best books I have read. I was browsing through a library, bored, and picked up this book. I thought, "How can I read a book heavy enough to break my spinal cord by picking it up?" The answer to my question is this simple, this is a great, plot-building book. When the characters weren't fighting demons, there were planning an adventure. I grew to love a lot of the characters, and began to yell at the book whenever something displeasing happened to them. It captured me, and before long I will be attempting the feat of reading The Druid of Shannara...

First of all, Terry Brooks is a magnificent writer! I enjoyed this book greatly! Although to like this book, you have to like his style of writing, which he has established in his previous books! (Sword of Shannara, is my third all time favorite book, although I was disappointed in the Elfstones)A few things that I didn't really like was the beggining, just before they set out on the quest and Leah, is discouraging them: This is too much like the other books, and I thought it boring, and pointless, since I knew they would end up going anyways! I am really happy to see a relative of Panamon Creel back in the story! Oh, I must point out that this novel has a very fascinating and captivating ending!
