I cannot imagine a more important book for anyone with this rare but often fatal disease - or for the friends and family of anyone with a diagnosis of scleroderma. The Lancet, ranked by many as the world's premier peer-reviewed medical journal, has just published the results of the small but critical study described in this book. Two thirds of patients completing the 48-week trial were in full remission by the end of the study, with no deaths reported from either scleroderma or the therapy. I read SCLERODERMA after a friend, who knew she was dying, was told by her rheumatologist that there was no effective treatment for her disease; subsequently she went to see Dr. Trentham and this therapy saved her life. I have a question for the reviewer at the bottom of this page. Which doctor is he recommending? The one who was willing to let my friend die, or the one who saved her life by following the protocol described in this book?

5.0 out of 5 stars The information in this book saved my life, November 25, 2000
By A Customer
By the time I was correctly diagnosed with diffuse scleroderma I had skin tightening on my hands, arms, face and torso. The pain in my joints (hands, wrists, shoulders and knees) was excruciating and wake me out of a sound sleep. I was afraid of falling down and not being able to get up and was very concerned that some day I would not be able to work. My doctor told me that I had an incurable disease and my odds for living a normal life expectancy were not good. I devoured all information on scleroderma that I could find. I found Henry Scammell's book and couldn't believe the subtitle "The Proven Therapy that can save your life". I read it with skepticism and thought, how can this be? My doctor didn't mention anything about a therapy that could save my life. In fact, he predicted a painful, progressive disease that would result in my death. Based on all information I had gathered and my options I decided to try this therapy. I am happy to report that after being on this therapy for four months I started to feel better and results of blood tests confirmed it. After one year all of the skin tightening had disappeared, most of the pain was gone and my blood tests were in the normal range. I am getting better with each passing day. I am not worried that I won't be able to work anymore. THANK YOU HENRY!!!

This book outlines the treatment of this devasting disease with common antibiotics that have been on the market for years and used with no harmful side effects. I personally, have tried this method. In two years I have had remarkable improvement with reversal of symptoms in a disease for which there is supposed to be no cure. In short, I have my life back. This author has done a great service to those who suffer from scleroderma in making this information available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just incredilble- a hopeful outcome!, May 3, 2000
By A Customer
I have read Scleroderma:The Proven Therapy That Can Save Your Life. This book gave me hope again when an establishment of medicine had not even provided me with any information on this therapy. I have begun the therapy and already am seeing improvements. I am very hopeful that I will be well again and just want to say to others to find a doctor that will admisnister this correctly to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another book of "HOPE" by Henry Scammell, January 16, 2001

A must read for anyone suffering from Scleroderma. This is a well written, highly sensitive piece of writing. The information if offers, is written for the everyday reader to comprehend. It will give you hope, and information so badly needed in this world of toxic drugs. The therapy used in this book is a benign antibiotic, that has brought forth wonderful results with Scleroderma. I do think it should be read in conjunction with Mr. Scammell's, "The New Arthritis Breakthrough". I for one have Lupus, and this protocol has turned my life around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Results are reality - take the Road Back to your health, November 27, 2007

This review is from: Scleroderma: The Proven Therapy that Can Save Your Life (Paperback)
My 25 year old son was diagnosed with diffuse systemic scleroderma. I turned to Amazon to find something to read about the disease, to educate me about what he would face given this diagnosis. I read a book written by a scleroderma patient who was severely ill with the disease and receiving the "conventional" treatments recommended by rheumatologists and promoted by the pharmaceutical industry. It was quite depressing to say the least. My son, being a knowledgeable biologist, refused such treatments. Thanks to Amazon, 6 weeks later, I received an e-mail suggesting that I may be interested in reading Scleroderma: The Proven Therapy that Can Save Your Life by Henry Scammell. Within days, I contacted representatives from the Roadback Foundation mentioned in the book, was given a physician's name to contact and my son began treatment with the antibiotic protocol. This is not a treatment you will see advertised in every magazine. It's been around and available for use for many years, it's safe, effective, inexpensive and it works for the vast majority of patients suffering and being needlessly debilitated from the diseases of not only Scleroderma, but Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Dr. Thomas McPherson Brown successfully treated thousands of patients and attempted to get the word out about this effective treatment for over 50 years, but as his patients' recovery was "anecdotal" and not scientifically proven, it was not accepted by the scientific community. Why would you not try a treatment that bears little risk and works? To every parent and patient who has had one of these diagnoses handed to them, read this book, turn to people who can help and get your life back. As a nurse of 30 years who has administered disease modifying drugs to many patients, I am very grateful to Amazon, Henry Scammell and the Road Back Foundation for letting me know of safer, more effective options. To the reviewers who fault this book as promoting a foundation, may you or a loved one never be personally affected by one of these diseases. The information that this book and the foundation provides might save your life!

3.0 out of 5 stars Every scleroderma patient needs to read this book., November 14, 1998
By A Customer
This is a layman's guide for a new treatment for scleroderma. It discusses the medical research which led to the discovery that long term antibiotic use can improve symtoms, and even cure. As a long term scleroderma patient, I have benefitted from this treatment and I know others who have been cured. There are some rheumatologists who are beginning to follow this treatment approach, despite objections from mainstream rheumatologists . I believe the consumer should decide for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope at last!, April 18, 2004
This review is from: Scleroderma: The Proven Therapy that Can Save Your Life (Paperback)
I was recently diagonsed with Scleroderma (the doctors thought) and have been stunned, depressed, and in a state of disbelief. I saw this book while searching about scleroderma and read it through the first evening I had it. I was EXCITED to learn that the medicine I am on IS the cure spoken of in the book!! Thank God for hope! I bought a copy for my doctor and plan on insisting on the same treatment as spelled out in the book! It is a must read.....for life.
