I decided to get a copy of the New Scofield Study Bible (aka Scofield Study Bible III) because I heard that the King James Version of it contains significantly more notes that correct some of the problems with the King James translation (i.e. words that had different meanings in 1611 than they do today, etc...). It also contains other notes and study helps that are not in the Old Scofield Bible. BUT, I would not recommend getting this one instead of the old one.

The back cover says that Scofield's notes and study system have been augmented (not revised). I beg to differ on this. They have shortened A LOT of the subject headings that Scofield included throughout the text, and have not always included Scofield's notes word for word, but have taken out parts, and added their (editors') own insights. They have removed a lot of Scofield's extremely helpful "parenthetic" designations. I'm of the opinion that if they're going to keep Scofield's name on the Bible, they shouldn't mess with his notes. Adding more notes, referrances and study helps, and even notes that disagree with some of Scofield's original conclusions, is fine (Scofield was just as fallible as anyone else...). They just should have left his notes put.

This being said, this Bible does deserve 5 stars. It is extremely helpful, well laid out, and the "Black/Acorn Basketweave B.L." edition is quite nice. If you're only going to buy one Scofield Bible though, get the Old one (1917 notes).

This Bible is just what I was looking for, my daughter wanted a study bible that was not huge but still contained a lot of information, this is the one and it also has a zipper cover!

This Bible is so beautifully made! I do enjoy the fact that it lays open easily anywhere you are reading. It would be a bit heavy to carry to church, but is a lovely, exquisitely made Bible for study at home! And such information!! Maps pertaining to the subject are scattered throughout the scriptures with larger, more detailed color maps in the back. Maps are so helpful. I have a fondness for the KJV translation and appreciate the foot notes along the side of the text. I'm very happy with my purchase!! I highly recommend this Study Bible!!!
