Scooby-Doo Spooky Camp Stories: Solve spooky mysteries

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Mentoring young kids and serving as a role model has Fred really excited to return to his childhood camp, Little Moose, as a counselor. Naturally, when Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo arrive, the camp's just been shut down due to the appearance of the Woodsman, a ghostly figure who's straight out of camp folklore. A trio of kids shows up in spite of Little Moose's closure and Fred is in his glory serving as counselor, even though one of the kids keeps besting him, and the other two are less-than-enthusiastic campers. When two more legendary figures, the Fishman and the Specter of Shadow Canyon, begin haunting the camp, the gang finds itself with a full-blown mystery to solve. Rather than relying on the original series' propensity for repetitive chase scenes through halls with many doors and extensive sandwich-building capers, this 2010 original film features scarier monster chases and has a more current feel, thanks to details like one camper's obsession with connectivity and technology. Naturally, Shaggy and Scooby are still hot on the case of "What's for dinner?" As for the bikini-clad residents of a rival camp and Fred's superficial attraction to their good-looking counselor, it seems an unnecessary addition to a Scooby-Doo film. Bonus features include three spooky camp stories and a Scooby-Doo! Mysteries Incorporated episode, "Beware the Beast from Below," in which the gang solves a tasty Crystal Cove mystery in spite of the protestations of their families. (Ages 6 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

5.0 out of 5 stars Old School Scoob September 21, 2010
Format:DVD
This is an excellent Scooby Doo. It is by far one of the most faithful to the old series I have seen in a long while. It is creepy, funny, and of course mysterious. I like the relationship dynamics between the characters. The updated animation and the story pull out all the stops. The fact that the mystery does not wind up involving the supernatural is wonderful. It is just like the old series. I don't like it when they take something pure and put a different spin on it. My 9 year old daughter and I curled up and enjoyed the heck out of this one. We were both trying to guess who the bad guys were all through the show. THIS ONE IS A KEEPER!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Sex and violence in Scooby Doo!! October 1, 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Well, ok, some scantily clad bikini girls does not make things erotic, but this WAS a little more.. ah.. "skin happy" than any other Scooby film I've seen. And I am 53 (yeah, you saw right: 53!), so I've had time to see them all.

Seriously, this Scooby might actually replace The Loch Ness Monster as my all time favourite Scooby feature (I need to see it again a few times). Great story (loved the sunken village), great visuals (love multiplane shots), solid humour and a dramatic edge to the action that I was surprised found itself into a "kiddie" film (ok, I am 53, again, so I see these things with different eyes.)

In short, this is, for what it is, a masterpiece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but a might scare the little ones September 15, 2010

Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a good story centered around Fred's old campgrounds from when he was a kid. The mystery involves three creatures that were legend around the lake where the camp is. They turn up and are trying to close the camp down and get everyone to leave. The gang has to figure out why they want it closed and who is doing it. It overall sticks to the standard Scooby Doo blueprint and is enjoyable. The only reason four stars and this review is to let you know that there are a few parts that might scare the little ones. It seems they were gearing it for halloween and some older kids. There are a lot more intense chase scenes and surprising times when the bad guys jump out that will have the younger ones jumping. Other than that is a great movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good movie.
My eight-year-old son very much liked this movie, but he didn't like it quite as much as Scooby-Doo and the Blue Falcon, so we're giving it four stars instead of five.
