I found this game to be very similiar to the real show. The characters and the sound effects are great. 3.0 out of 5 stars Parents Cheapsheet for this potential Frustrating game.
It took me an hour to realize that to get past the first suspect and clue, you needed to give the "feather duster" to the old lady. That opens the locked door and makes the most of the other suspects appear. For the other locked door in the town, listen carefully to the Jester's rhyme after you give him the first ball.

With these two hints, the game is just like the...

I found this game to be very similiar to the real show. The characters and the sound effects are great. This game takes you and the gang to a spooky medieval castle in Nova Scotia where you help solve the mystery of the missing Princess, but watch out for the Phantom Knight, who can appear when you least expect it! Find clues, talk to suspects, explore the castle, earn Scooby Snacks by playing games! The Scooby Snacks are used to bribe Scooby to explore a scary area of the castle. Plenty of challenging games and puzzles to solve to help the kids build their thinking and problem solving skills. There are three difficulty levels in the game and a little Scrappy Doo icon at the bottom of the screen that you can click on and ask questions if you need help. The game is geared toward 5-10 year olds. I think it should be geared to 7-60 year olds! I thought it was really fun but my 5 year old nephew found it frustrating to solve the mystery, however, he was fascinated with the color and sound effects. The game holds your interest and makes you want to come back for more. In fact, don't tell my nephew but I can't wait to play it before he comes home from school! Shhh!

With these two hints, the game is just like the "Jinx at the Sphinx". Without them, you will want to throttle the programmers. I played the game myself before I let my 5 yr old play. Since I knew the tricks, he enjoyed it completely.

Good Luck.

2.0 out of 5 stars hard but no replayability, April 28, 2003
This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
I brought this for my daughter and played it myself first. I enjoyed the difficulty that the game play provided but was extremely dissappointed to find that the second time I played was exactly the same, all the items in the same place, the game play the same, it was easy. The only thing that really changes is the villan and the clues.
The kids have played once, with helpful hints from me to get them going when they got stuck. They havent been back which dosent surprise me as they tend not to replay games that do not have some varability.
It could have been a great game as it has the difficulty but without varibility it is not as good as it could be.
Solving the villian and clues does not play a big enough part in the game to make it replayable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fun adventure game, May 12, 2001
This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
This program is very entertaining. It plays a lot like a Putt-Putt or Pajama Sam program where you travel through different locales and collect items that you use to get further in the game. This is nothing like the somewhat disappointing Scooby Mystery of the Fun Park Phantom - that was really a board game, in essence. This one is nice to look at, sometimes challenging to play, but very fun and funny too.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well-designed game, February 9, 2002

This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
I bought The Phantom of the Knight for my five-year-old. It is one of his first adventure-type computer games, although he is an old hand at the Reader Rabbit type CDs. It took a lot of persistence to finally obtain all the clues, but for some reason this game did not frustrate my son nearly as much as some games do. He has played it several times since, and still enjoys it.

I thought the animation and the writing were pretty good, and the user interface was intuitive and presented no problems at all. There are some funny spots that always get a laugh out of my son.

There isn't much variation in the game when played at the three difficulty levels. On different runs, a different character will turn out to be the villain, but finding who is the villain is not really the point of the game.

I would not try to install this game on an older computer that's already fairly "maxed out," as my son's is. This one went on Mom's 800 MHz Dell, and we had no technical problems.

Overall, my son and I heartily recommend this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Installation problems, etc.!!, September 17, 2001

"susaneis" (SANTA CRUZ, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
It does not install easily! I had to find the web site for the company who makes the cd-rom and download an update in order for it to actually install! It took a long time for me to find this and many people wouldn't have been able to do this (if they are not internet savy or don't even have internet access). It would not recognize DircectX past version 7 and therefore would not install completely or play.

When we did get it installed noticed a huge scratch/gash in the disc...probably due to the poor and cheap packaging of the cd itself. They did not even put the cd in a plastic jewel case but in a little thin carboard envelope.

I took this copy back to the store and exchanged it. After finally getting it to install and start playing something seems wrong with it. We only can find one clue and only one suspect shows up! I am a college educated woman and I tried for over an hour to get this working. I went of the directions many times.

The pointer is supposed to turn into Scooby's hand pointing when it is on something you can click on or a possible clue. We found no more clues. Will have to take this one back to the store too. It was the last copy they had so will probably just exchange it for something else or get money back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun! My son loves this game., January 4, 2002

This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
My five-year old really enjoys this game. I really enjoyed playing it with him the first time. While I find that playing it more than once is dull, my son can play it again and again (by himself!).

The game requires that he listen to what is said, remember clues and locations, and to conduct a thorough search. While I wouldn't call this game educational, I still find it to have some positive merits. Additionally, as a gamer myself I think that this is an appropriate adventuring game for a 5-8 year old and builds some of the skills needed for more complex adventuring games.

We had no trouble what-so-ever installing the product. We popped in the disk, clicked install, and everything worked great. My five-year old could have installed this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun & learning, January 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
My 5-yr-old LOVES this game! With an age range being 5-10 I thought it'd be too hard for her, but after I showed her how to play, she can solve the mystery with her favorite characters. Yes, it is basically the same mystery over & over, but that's what she likes about it (It's like reading a favorite book again & again). There's alot of logic & sequencing needed & builds memory skills. You have to remember how to get to all the different rooms through many secret passages and find the clues in a certain order. This is loads of fun. We will be getting the rest of these mystery adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great game!, January 7, 2007
This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
I think I am buying this now for the fifth time (for one of the grandparents' house)...our 3-14 year old nephews and 6 year old niece LOVE this game, and so do my husband and I. It's intriguing enough for just about everyone. Unlike other reviewers (ahem!), I shall not give away any of the pathways for getting through the game. After all, the fun is in finding them out. However, for the youngest, it is good to know the game well, so you can give hints in the right direction, sometimes quite literally. As a student of music, I was pleasantly surprised on how accurate your timing has to be to get more scooby snacks when you get down with the wizard. This is not an easy game, nor is it short, both making it all the better for a game you don't just play a couple of times then forget about. If you like challenge, you will really enjoy this game. And, yes, like Showdown in Ghost Town, Jinx at the Sphinx, etc, it's remarkably like the cartoon series in sound, prose, and image.

5.0 out of 5 stars The trick to solving the mystery is..., June 15, 2005
By
This review is from: Scooby-Doo: Phantom of the Knight (CD-ROM)
This game is a lot of fun and requires a good deal of focus. The trick to getting around the game environment and solving the mystery is to listen closely to all of the clues. I found that when adults played the game they had a hard time catching all of the dialogue clues because they wanted to rush through and get to the end. This and the other two Scooby-Doo mystery series titles from The Learning Company provided my family with hours of fun, we just had to listen to the clues.
