Kids love it, parents will cringe,
This review is from: Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (DVD)
Ahh the pain of being a parent... you will truly feel it when you child finds this movie. Now I have sat through untold hours of Scooby Doo and can enjoy most of them even on the 800th viewing... now let me tell you the bad news: This movie is Terrible, but your kids are going to love it and want to watch it over and over again.First, there is no mystery, no gang, and no unmasking. The music is repetitive so even if you are in the next room you will feel the pain. The basic story is - Count Dracula turns Shaggy (wearing a red shirt) into a werewolf and tells him if he wins a car race he can be changed back. So Shaggy, Scooby (with only a minor role), Scrappy and Shaggy's girlfriend "Googy" go to the race. Shaggy and Scooby race while Scrappy and Googy get them out of problems. The Count keeps trying to make them loose, there's some annoying announcer, and all of the monsters are real. Your kids will love it... and that would be tolerable if they had kept this at the length of an episode... but it drags on and on and on to the length of a movie. The same things are repeated over and over... Shaggy and Scooby are in the lead, the Count does something bad to their car, Googy and Scrappy fix it... repeat that about 25 times and you have this movie. The animation is poor even in comparison to the TV show and the soundtrack is like nails on a chalkboard. As a parent I'm warning you to steer your kids in the direction of Scooby and the Loch Ness Monster, or Scooby and the Mummy, or Scooby Doo's Original Mysteries (a very good choice). My 6 year old loves this movie, and we are forced to listen to him watching it at every opportunity. It's almost as bad, if not worse on parents than "Scooby Doo and the Ghoul School." There, you have been warned.

Scooby and Shaggy take a break.,
By Inspector Gadget "Go Go Gadget Reviews" (On the trail of Doctor Claw) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (DVD)
I saw this like a hundred times when I was a kid and I did not think I would laugh at it as much as I did then. Especially considering this is old school Scooby animation and not the sleeker, brighter animation of recent years. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It's even better than Scooby's most recent adventure (The Monster of Mexico). There is no Mystery Inc or Mystery Machine in this movie. It's just Shaggy (wearing a red shirt instead of a green one) and Scooby (and unfortunately, Scrappy, tho he doesn't feature prominently) and Shag's girlfriend Googy. Shaggy lives in an alarmingly large, mansion-esque house and is chosen by Count Dracula to become a werewolf so he can take part in a race for monsters. Despite looking cute and cuddly as a Werewolf, Shaggy obviously doesn't want to do it but Dracula promises to change him back to human if he wins. What follows is a Scooby Doo version of the Wacky Races as insane customized cars battle it out on an anything-goes Transylvanian race-course. The majority of laughs come from Dracula, ever so desperate to keep his wicked plan from falling apart and always making a complete idiot of himself. It's also new to see Shaggy not jump into Scooby's arms every time he sees a monster. And this time they're real too , not just some guy in a mask. I would definitely recommend this to Scooby fans and those who are just total Scooby completists (like me). It's very funny and totally rewatchable. The DVD is in 1.33:1, as drawn and comes with a Dolby Mono soundtrack.

My Review of Scooby-Doo: Reluctant Werewolf,

Not one of the best Scooby-Doo movies, but not a bad movie either, this is the type of movie your kids will love and you can watch it with them. Unlike some of the new Scooby-Doo movies, this one has more comedy in it that both kids and parents will like. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.

GREAT VIDEO,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (DVD)
THis is arguably the bestScooby doo movie of all time!I know somepeople don't like scrappy, which I don't understand. I like Scrappy. I think he makes these videos much better, he's a great, funny character if you ask me. Also in this movie, there is no mystery machine, Freddy, Velma, or Daphane. this may disapoint some people, but it doesn't bother me. I find Daphane annoying, same with Fred, and velma doesn't belong in this movie. Oh, and about the mystery machine, sorry we're not in the 70's anymore. Shaggy has a car in this movie that is a million times cooler than the mystery machine. When you see the movie you'll find out. Fred, Daphane and Velma just don't belong in this movie. They're not neccesarry charactors anyway, beacause they solve mysteries and this movie isn;t a mystery! In this movie Shaggy, Scooby and Srappy run into trouble when Shaggy is turned into a werewolf by the hunch bunch, who are count dracula'a assistants. In order to be changed back to normal, shaggy must enter and win the annual monster road rally in transylvania, but dracula isn't gonna make it easy! This movie is very comical and funny. It's much better than much of the garbage that's on TV today. I give this movie 2 thumbs up! buy this movie, and you won't regret it!!!!!!!!!

Delightfully Moronic,
This review is from: Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (DVD)
When this movie came out on DVD, I was tempted to buy it because I had vague recollections of liking it as a child. I was concerned, however, that it would turn out to be one of those things that doesn't quite transcend adulthood. Fortunately I had the opportunity to see it on TV recently and am now convinced that it is indeed worth buying. Not being a particular fan of classic Scooby, I had no problem with the scrapping of the traditional characters and plot conventions, although I'm sure this would disappoint many. The strength of this movie, to me, is it's complete absurdity. Shaggy is turned into a werewolf and, in order to regain his somewhat human form, must win a car race against several classic monsters. For reasons that were unclear to me, Dracula (who also announces the race with the aid of his ditzy girlfriend) is hellbent on preventing Shaggy and Scooby from winning. But not to worry, they have help--in the form of Scrappy and Shaggy's girlfriend Googy (how's that for a stoner name). Now we will all agree that Scrappy is really [not good], but fortunately he's not in this movie enough to get extremely annoying. Dracula's got pals, too: The Hunch Bunch, Crunch and Brunch. While the monsters and their cars and hijinks are entertaining, The Hunch Bunch is my favorite part of the movie. The bemonacled Brunch, who sounds curiously like Cary Elwes, seems intelligent, but he's just as stupid as the incoherent Crunch and thus ridiculous escapades ensue. Ultimately, and not surprisingly, a happy ending is attained and Shaggy, Googy, Scooby, and Scrappy return to domestic bliss. In short, this movie is [not good] and bad, but totally, totally fun.

A great classic Scooby doo movie than fans of old Hanna-Barbara storyline will enjoy. The only reason I give it 4 stars out of 5 is the one problem I always had with story concept. Dracula needs a werewolf but a midget werewolf is seen among Dracula's crew of monsters throughout the entire film. From kid to adult that always bugged me a bit. It a wonderful story where Shaggy wears his alternate red shirt and Googie his girlfriend is a great new character to the Scooby Universe. In them movie shaggy is turned into a werewolf and in Wacky Racers style have to win a crazy race to get changed back.

Best Scooby Movie EVER!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf [VHS] (VHS Tape)
When I first saw this movie on TV, I had nothing else to do AND I was feeling a bit lethargic. My sister was at her friends house so I turned on TV and there was a Scooby movie, so I decided to stick around. It happened to be this one, and as soon as I saw it I LOOOOVED IT! My sister saw it and she luvs it too. I'd rate it infinite stars if I could! This movie is about Shaggy getting turned into a werewolf for the Monster Road Rally because the old one retired. So Dracula, the big baddie, sends the Hunch Bunch to get the job done. Shaggy turns into a werewolf and gets transported to the castle with Scooby, Scrappy, and Googy, his girlfriend. Now all Shaggy wants to do is get rid of the spell by winning the race (or so he thinks!) and get home to all his food! However, Dracula is no fool! He does everything in his power to keep Shaggy from winning. Now all Shaggy has to do is dodge the tricky traps! The movie ends in a sort of a cliffhanger so this movie doesn't exactly end. Of course, it's not a scary Matrix-type cliffhanger, just kind of an "oh, no, not again!" cliffhanger. But I don't want to give the movie away. The Hunch Bunch (rock on!!!) are the two funniest dudes in the movie and they keep this movie funny throughout. I bet they'll be your favorite charaters. They are two goony hunchbacks that carry out Dracula's schemes. There is Brunch, the smart one with a monicle, and Crunch, the drooling idiot. (What was he raised by anyway, dogs?) To all of you who said this movie sucked, WHAT ARE YOU SAYING!? The worst thing in the whole movie is that the race runs a little long, but I that didn't make a difference to me. This movie I would not recommend to someone who likes strictly classic Scooby. No gang, no Mystery Machine, no mystery, no masked villians, and Shaggy wears orange. But if you want a refreshing change with Scooby, this is the movie to get. This is a Scooby for even the biggest Scooby-Haters, as well as Scooby-Lovers. The only other setback would be if you got the DVD. The game sucks (the Hunch Bunch does not jump up and wave to everyone) and there aren't any good extras. But the movie makes up for all that. Trust me, VHS or DVD, this movie is worth it. It's a hilarious comedy for the whole family. Packed with slapstick, jokes, and fun galore, I loved it, and you will too.

I really dislike this one, but my daughter enjoys it.,

This review is from: Scooby-Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf (DVD)
Personally, I find this an irritating and it is pretty much the only Scooby Doo episode that I can say I really disklike. However, my daughter, who loves classic Scooby Doo really likes this one, even though this is nowhere near classic Scooby Doo. There is no mystery and Velma, Freddy, and Daphnie are not in the story. Shaggy has a girl friend and she is portrayed as a dumb blond, which is irritating at best. A whole cast of classic Halloween monsters are part of the cast, led by Count Dracula and a Elvira / Vanna White hybrid character. Overall, I find the story irritating, boring, and unlike any classic Scooby Doo episode. That said, my daughter did not like the Scooby Doo goes Hollywood, so at least you know she will not "roll over" for any old Scooby. :-) Personally, I would rather watch the Scooby Doo goes Hollywood than this irrating piece of junk. Overall, avoid this Reluctant Werewolf and Scooby Doo goes Hollywood if you are looking for classic Scooby Doo with a mystery.
