In the event that you haven't been concerning yourself with such things as the evolution of the Scooby Doo! video game franchise, a brief recap: Scooby Doo! And The Spooky Swamp is the 2010 follow-up to 2009's Scooby Doo! First Frights. In case that means nothing to you, these games represent the latest incarnation of the property, ditching the cartoony look of earlier games from THQ in favor of more articulated 3D character models and subtle hints of the newer animated series/ movies scattered about. Bother were developed by Torus Games and distributed by none other than Warner Brothers Games itself.

In the event that you missed out on First Frights, the interface, control scheme and gameplay were all uncannily reminiscent to the Lego Games from Traveler's Tales. In my opinion this is a good thing, a very good thing in fact! The Lego games are among some of the highest regarded platformers to exist and aside from lacking the deliberately blocky look inspired by popular toys on which they're based, these Scooby Doo! titles could almost slip in to the lineup without hitch.

The plot on this one starts out pretty straightforward: Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, hungry like always, follow the aroma of cooking food into a haunted swamp. Their nasal passages lead them to a mysterious girl named Lila who is toiling away on a pot of hot stew. Knowing their stomachs outvote their brains, she asks the two of them to recover the ingredients needed to finish her homemade stew. Naturally, seeking out the ingredients (tomatoes, mushrooms and what have you) leads to a wide variety of supernatural situations and where there are ghouls, masked fools and investigating to do, Mystery Inc. answers the call.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth getting for $10 or lower January 21, 2014

This is a cool little game, slightly more difficult compared to it's predecessor and nowhere near as fun, but it will hold your interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars My kid loves it. January 6, 2014

I bought this for my disabled son who is a die hard Scooby Doo fan. A nice aspect is you don't "lose", he has a good time and when his character falls off the screen or something it just reappears.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid game - fun, not too difficult, not too glitchy November 28, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
My son is a huge Scooby fan. We've played all the Scooby games available for Playstation and Playstation 2 and even some for Wii. The one's that are favorites are the Scooby Doo! First Frights and the SCOOBY DOO: MYSTERY MAYHEM. Those are the one's that often get pulled for playtime.

While Spooky Swamp is quite a nice effort it is not anything superior to what has come before. Like First Frights the difficulty on this one makes it a good choice for gamers with some experience (so it may not be a good choice for the 3-6 crowd and it will not challenge an older 10-13 year old who is experienced at games). My son is autistic (although he is 10) and this was a very good game for him difficulty wise and frustration wise. He experienced very little irritation and we didn't find any game breaking glitches which can be a real problem with licensed efforts. He completed the game in about 10 hours which was a good length for me considering the price is reasonable.

Graphics, music, voice acting was all fine - I didn't note anything too bad or too good - just very o.k. Gameplay was really nice - action platformer type so there are some reflex's involved and it is helpful if your child can read for hints and such.

Certainly for those who have hung on to the PS2 this is a good kid friendly choice that will not have parents pulling their hair out in frustration every 5 minute when the child bothers you for help. Recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Scooby Doo & The Spooky Swamp January 17, 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game for my mom for Christmas (and me, we play it together) because we both love Scooby Doo & like most Scooby-Doo games on ps2, it's too short & easy. We beat the whole game in 3 days! The story is really cute, the graphics are great (very colorful!), the three levels are pretty big & there's lots to explore/find. I just wish it would be a little harder or at least last longer & have more levels. It is a very fun game & is worth buying, short or not...great for any age! :)
