Editorial Reviews

Review

"When I am looking for a fresh, creative ice cream ideas, I always check with Lindsay first. Her recipes are not only well written but they use quality ingredients in a fun, interesting way I can't find anywhere else." -Rachel Rappaport, creator of award-winning blog Coconut & Lime

"This cookbook has fresh flavor combinations and beautifully balanced recipes that create perfect textures and rich, bold flavors. These recipe techniques are well-thought-out and straightforward, easy and fun to follow." -Rhonda Ruckman, Head Pastry Chef for the Link Restaurant Group

"As a pastry chef who has always had a passion for frozen desserts, I was warmed by the passion and depth of knowledge that Lindsay has for the subject. She has created some of the most uniquely textured and explosively flavored ice creams I have tasted in my 26-year career, and it was not an accident. Lindsay definitely understands the technical aspects of formulation and the delicate nuances of flavoring. This could be the last book you will ever need to read on the subject of ice cream and frozen desserts." -Tariq Hanna, Head Pastry Chef and Partner at Sucré

More About the Author

Lindsay Clendaniel is an avid ice cream maker and author of the ice cream recipe blog - Scoop Adventures. Lindsay's love of ice cream began as a young child. She fondly remembers making trips to the local ice cream stand; the excitement of picking the flavor, the sweet and creamy taste, the cool ice cream dripping down her hand as she licked the cone. Her love for ice cream has taken her to more ice cream shops that she can count. Enjoying various scoops throughout her childhood quickly translated into a passion for all things ice cream as an adult. After eating ice cream made by other people for nearly 30 years, Lindsay decided to buy an ice cream maker of her own. With each new batch of ice cream, she set out to create a flavor that was more interesting or more intriguing than the last. Lindsay decided to share her creations with the world, and in 2009 the Scoop Adventures blog was born.

As she kept churning scoops and writing blog posts, word got out about Lindsay's blog and her obsession with ice cream. People started to take notice and soon enough she was approached to write the Scoop Adventures cookbook, which features a collection of recipes from shop owners who are passionate about their homemade product as well as original creations from Lindsay. She is excited to see what the ice cream world will bring her in the future!

I own several ice cream books but am always on the lookout for books that have recipes that are just different enough... This book fits the bill. The book is well laid out and the pictures are great (I always like to have a photo to go off of). There are 50 recipes for 50 states. About 30 of the recipes interest me. That's pretty good. I always hate getting a new recipe book to find only 2 or 3 of the recipes sounds like something I want to eat. I made the orange chocolate decadence today. I did notice that the custard never seemed to thicken like other ice creams I have made. Not sure what that is about, but it churned nicely and did produce good ice cream consistency. I do like the flavor (I didn't use the alcohol as it was optional), but if I make this again I may use the juice and zest of 2 oranges instead of just one. The orange flavor is there but its very light. If you didn't know this was orange chocolate I don't think you would pick up on it. I am going to make the brown sugar recipe in the next few days. Hopefully that will also turn out well. Something I appreciate about this book is that the majority of the recipes have, in my opinion, a reasonable amount of ingredients (less than 10) and most of the ingredients are things you can easily find at any grocery store. I ran across of few things that may need to be tracked down, but overall most things are going to be found anywhere. If I had to think of a con about this book I do feel the quality of the book itself is sort of cheap (I feel like the binding is really impacted each time I open it) so I'm a little concerned that this book might not handle regular wear and tear as gracefully as better made books. Overall I am happy with this book and would recommend it to folks who enjoy making homemade ice cream.
