2.0 out of 5 stars Too many strikes against December 7, 2012
By inigo
App doesn't need to know my location or read my contacts. Combined with full Internet access = data mining.

Can't imagine what a game like this would try to sell me in app either.
Money grab.

Developer admits in the description that Hasbro's Yahtzee was ripped off.
Unoriginal, attempting to profit off others' work.

1.0 out of 5 stars A large resounding NO December 7, 2012
I'm not one that likes to connect everything I do to facebook, or constantly have to sign in for something that I already paid for. Keep in mind it is the free app of the day, but if I had come across this app prior to that I would not be satisfied with having made said purchase. But that is one of the many issues I had with this app game. I am not going to pretend that I know the ins and outs of software and permissions, and every potential hazzard that it entails. But I know for a fact that many apps and games have never been installed on my Android phone or Kindle Fire because of the crazy permissions that have no relation to any aspect of said game or app.

For example, the permissons for Dice With Buddies are as follows:

Read only access to phone state.
Get notified that the operating system has finished booting.
Send SMS messages.
Open network sockets.
Write to external storage.
Access information about Wi-Fi networks.
Access coarse (e.g., Cell-ID, WiFi) location.
Read the user's contacts data.
Access information about networks.

I know app developers need to make money, but having intrusive requirements are a drawback to potential business. Yes word of mouth is quite strong, but so is that of the customer. Why is it necessary to read my contacts and send SMS messages to them? For a dice game at that? Besides the crazy gall of it all, are you going to pay for the texts as well? That is a resounding no for a game people have already paid for. Again, you do not need to be a professional when it comes to realizing what from what is sketchy, and if you are a fan of games similar to Yahtzee this would probably be a game directly up your alley; however, all of this ridiculous permissons for such a simplified game is exorbitant regardless for the free charge of the day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Requires Email December 7, 2012
I downloaded and installed this game and then promptly removed it! No game should require your email to just play!

Couldn't uninstall fast enough. This thing is a crappy version of farkle plain and simple.

If you find the game intuitive or original you need to get your head examined.

Game play is slow. Facebook gives san integration error message too.

You MUST sign in to play as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Local Play Mode Doesn't Work Meaning Online Play ONLY December 7, 2012
Verified Purchase
I got this as the free app of the day today from Amazon.

I think this is a Yahtzee type game, but I can't play it unless you sign into Facebook or create an account which I would rather not do.

There was a Local Play mode where you can play with someone in the same room as you, but unfortunately the app gives me an application stopped unexpectedly message every time and closes.

Therefore, I have to give this app a 1 star rating until this bug is fixed since you can only play this one by logging into online accounts for now which I would rather not want to do.

1.0 out of 5 stars Insane permissions/obvious personal data grab! December 7, 2012
Who in their right mind is going to download a game (free or not) that is asking for so many unnecessary and unneeded permissions that are not explained? Certainly not I.

The pass and play option doesn't work. After the first roll, it errors and then the application crashes. So this app can't be used for two people playing on the same device. Read more

Dice with Buddies on Kindle Fire
I had the free version and it's been fine for months and now it's porn. I try to open it and it starts opening and then tons of porn tries to download. I downloaded a security app and it didn't catch anything so I deleted it from my device and the cloud. Afraid to try to download it again.
