I was lucky to stumble across this unique cd. I was looking for songs from my favorite old Ike and Tina album, Come Together on Allmusic. They list an album by that name as a compilation with a very different song list from the original Liberty album by that name. Apparently there are two Ike and Tina albums by that name and Allmusic messed up and listed both under one entry with only one song list. Anyway the only song I could find was Contact High and it was on this disc. I was taken in by the list of artists I like who don't normally make it to compilations like Harvey Mandel, Joy of Cooking and others.

The songs are mostly from the funky side of early 70s rock. Among the highlights besides Harvey and Joy are a Quicksilver song from their 7th album. I'm someone who loves the couple of Quicksilver albums generally not much caring for the ones they made after Dino came back on vocals. Who would have thought they'd have such a funky gem from so late of an album. There's also a song from my favorite Steve Miller album, Brave New World, his third album long before Fly Like an Eagle. I had Sugarloaf on my turntable the night someone broke in my house and stole my stereo back in the early 70s and I never replaced it. The liner notes to this disc say this is the short version of Green Eyed Lady, but fortunately it is the full six-plus-minute version.

This disc also introduced me to several groups I never heard of but may dig into in the future. Silver Child by the Sadistic Mika Band is a far out off the wall trip. Can't Stop the Madness by Birtha could easily be mistaken for a good, lost Cold Blood song. It is an all-female band but they have the chops of a band not just relying on a gimmick. I've heard of Hank Marvin for many years but never heard him. His cut his is excellent.

There are several funky jams here like Sounds Nice and the Hoodoo Rhythm Devils. It all works into a nice package. I heard it for the first time yesterday when it came in the mail. Only Sister Lonely didn't make it to my Ipod. I thank whoever thought up this disc.

Scorched in the way the earth gets when a comet from outer space breaks through the stratosphere and manages to hit! Some nice tracks here. The beat is fat and mellow with rock and soul roots. I downloaded this in my I-tunes with 5 dozen other cds. Every time one of the songs from this album comes up, I have to check - like "Who IS this?" If you like early 70s rock, you should enjoy this rare gems collection. It continues to grow on me and impress.
