Book Description

The sixth thrilling Tracers novel from bestselling and award-winning author Laura Griffin features a forensic anthropologist and a Navy Seal who work together to find a killer before the killer finds them.

Kelsey Quinn has traveled the world unearthing heartbreaking secrets, but nothing prepares her for the trauma of her latest discovery. While on a human rights dig in the Philippines, the forensic anthropologist uncovers a set of human remains, touching off a chain of deadly events back on American soil. After a terrifying attack, Kelsey goes into hiding while she tries to unravel the mystery of two seemingly unconnected murders. The odds are stacked against her, but Kelsey has the help of her colleagues at the Delphi Center crime lab… and the unexpected protection of the only man she ever loved.

Navy SEAL Gage Brewer knows his relationship with Kelsey is over and done. But when he learns she’s being targeted by a killer, he risks everything—including his career as a spec ops warrior—to get her out of harm’s way. Gage tracks down Kelsey and believes he’s accomplished his goal. But as the threats against her escalate, it becomes clear that the enemy they’re fighting is more lethal than anyone ever imagined. And the most dangerous mission is only beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the edge of your seat, nail biting intensity. October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres. I love the edge of your seat, nail biting intensity. Throw in some sizzling chemistry and you have me. This book was full of all of the above. It also had angst and regret.

Kelsey and Gage used to be a couple. Kelsey is a forensic anthropologist and engaged to another man now. Gage is a Navy Seal on Kelsey's uncle's team. Gage broke Kelsey's heart when she gave him an ultimatum, the teams or her and he chose her. He couldn't leave the teams and didn't understand how she could ask. He still wanted her but there was no way he could give up his life.

Kelsey goes back home after her uncle's funeral only to witness her fianc?'s murder. Now on the run from the very people supposed to protect her, she has no idea where to go. Gage, after being questioned about the murder and finding out about Kelsey's disappearance, finds her and they set out to find out what the hell is going on.

The couple experiences so many ups and downs. Gage tries to show Kelsey that they can make it work and that their former relationship wasn't based on sex alone. He loves her and knows she loves him. He doesn't see the problem. Kelsey can't handle the worrying and stress of him being gone who knows where for who knows how long. She can't do it. It almost killed her before. Gage doesn't understand this until Kelsey's injured and he gets a small dose of what she goes through every time he leaves.

I don't think the ending could've been more perfect. This is the sixth book in the series but can definitely be read as a stand-a-lone. I will be reading the first five books next. I loved this author's style of writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scorched - Another winner in the Tracer's series October 30, 2012
By Jess
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Gage and Kelsey have been broken up for months and both are still nursing the wounds of that break up. They both cared deeply about each other, probably even loved at that point as well, but Gage's job as a SEAL drove them apart. Kelsey gave Gage the worst ultimatum: her or his job. He lives and breathes his work, his entire life for so long has been wrapped up the SEALs, and that's what he chose. Partly because it's in his blood and partly because he was so shocked that Kelsey would even make him choose, he was speechless. They broke up, Kelsey became engaged to another man and Gage never got over her.

Fast forward months later, Kelsey is going to her now ex-fiance, Blake's place to go over a case when all hell breaks loose. A man she and her ex thought was a friend kills Blake and she runs for her life when they turn their gun on her as she tries to escape. Gage becomes a suspect through his involvement with Kelsey and he's questioned by the FBI. He learns that no one has seen Kelsey for days and he sets off to find her, figure out what's going on and try to keep her safe.

The two meet up and it's not happiness between them right off the bat. Kelsey is glad to see a friendly face, especially since she's not sure who she can trust with Blake's murderer being in law enforcement. Gage and Kelsey track clues that lead them to follow a train of anthrax and a plot to unleash it in the US, a plan that also involves a traitor very high up in the US Government. One thing that I really like about this story is it takes place away from both Gage and Kelsey's prominent careers, but both of their expertise is needed to solve the case, just in different ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent addition to a fantastic series October 30, 2012
By CMD
Format:Kindle Edition
I confess that I have been an avid Tracers series fangirl since I read the first book in the series, UNTRACEABLE. Already boasting some of the best true romantic suspense I have read in years (no slipping into 'romantic thriller' territory; no paranormal elements to jive with a shifting market), each entry has managed to get even better: the writing has gotten tighter, the pacing more intense, and the villains more heinous whilst still remaining realistic without compromising the development of (and our emotional investment in) the hero & heroine and the meticulous research that evidently goes into each novel.

The sixth instalment in the series features fan-favourite former couple Delphi Centre forensic anthropologist Dr. Kelsey Quinn and sexy Navy SEAL Lt. Gage Brewer, who had their Happy-Ever-After-turned-to-Happy-For-A-Bit in the novella UNSTOPPABLE. I've loved Kelsey as a character since she first appeared in UNFORGIVABLE for her brains & her strength and was stoked to see her star in her own story (and fall for alpha male extraordinaire Gage) in UNSTOPPABLE... and insanely curious to see what would happen once I learnt they would star in their own full-length novel. We saw glimpses of the stress and fears Kelsey had about the confidentiality & dangers of Gage's constant deployments with the teams in the novella and the intervening two novels, and we retroactively see how those came to a head to end the relationship before the start of SCORCHED in the form of a misguided ultimatum to Gage: Kelsey or the SEALs. Being the honour-bound, loyal warrior [and absolute boneheaded man] that he is, Gage chooses the SEALs despite being stupid in love with (and miserable without) Kelsey.
