One of top five movies I've ever seen,
By Tom Jones (Vancouver, British Columbia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scorchers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I found this movie while scanning one of the movie channels late one night. Luckily, I caught it from the beginning. It moved me in so many ways from laughter to tears. The relationship between 'Jumper and Splendid' was a classic father daughter relationship. His sensitivity to her concerns and fears after he finally heard what she had been saying from the beginning of the movie was a tear-jerker. The evolution of Talbot and the education of Bear were equally as heartwarming. This movie was somehow overlooked by the general public, I am glad that I found it. I have shared it with my daughter. I found the movie and I am currently looking for the soundtrack.

Set in Louisiana, the accents are difficult but interesting. This film is a wonderful film for a evening of "cuddle up" with your long time honey. You'll remember why you have been together for so long. It touches on some of the most basic fundamentals of life and teaches a few new things to it's audience. James Earl Jones is wonderful! Previously a play - it is a thinking mans film. This one will take thought and you will appreciate it more if you are going to give it your full attention. Don't expect bang, bang - shoot 'em up and bad guys.

Lively Paced and Fun! I always recommend this one and watch it again... and again! The Characters are interesting and interact well together. Listen up!! Even if you see it more than once, you will laugh and cry and come away pleased that you spent the time with it! I was fortunate to get a copy while it was available, but need more for friends and family who have requested it!

I loved this movie when I stumbled upon it at the video store after it was first released. My husband and I have enjoyed watching this film over and over again; I'd love to see it on DVD! It's definitely more appropriate for people who like plays (think in terms of Tennessee Williams). I love all the Southern nuances, especially since they weren't hokey. Scorchers itself is an old Southern term for a street-walker and there were so many phrases that made me laugh until my sides ached. They reminded me so much of growing up with Southern parents. I saw this movie not long after my own mother had passed away, so the scenes with Jumper and Splendid were especially poignant for me. I loved the relationship between Bear and Howler..."it is the same train!" If you get the chance, see this film. It's heartwarming and funny and should be out on DVD!!!

What a Great Movie,

My wife and I stumbled onto this movie two years ago and we have been trying to buy it ever since. It is not for children but it touches many aspects of adult life. It will make you life, cry and enjoy many different aspects of the human condition. If you get the chance, buy it sight unseen and you will not be disappointed. The story line(s) are good, the characters are well developed and the acting wonderful.

Scorched into my heart,
By Joyce L. Green (Arcadia, FL United States) - See all my reviews

This is a treasure. Classified as a drama, it will make you laugh, cry, identify, muse, imagine and remember it forever. The music will haunt you. The storytelling, the stories within the story, the visual symbolism, the actors, the cinematography, the site, the extras...everything makes you feel as if you were there. If you are feeling blue, this movie will make you feel better. If you are celebrating, watching this movie will top off your evening.

Wow! what a movie. I felt all emotions available to me. I laughed and cryed and was sad and happy and mad throughout the movie. I fell in love with Jumper. My husband couldn't believe how much I carried on about this tender, sweet, funny movie, about life, love and marriage and being a parent, until he caught it from start to finish one day. We have been constantly looking for the movie ever since. This is a video everyone should have in their library. I wish it were still available along with the soundtrack.

funny & touching - pay attention,

If you don't pay attention to the various relationships between the characters at the start of the movie you will miss the significance of their behavior. I find that each rewatching of this movie adds further depth to me. The acting is superb, the script is tight and the directing and film editing keep the various threads of the movie closely intertwined. This movie makes you feel as though you are watching a stage play (it may have been adapted from one) and so is not for everybody.

Edited "Scorchers",
By Mukarrattattino Arkasiyarin (Boston, MA. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scorchers [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I had seen the unedited version in a foreign country on TV. In the US, the running time of the "Scorchers" is 81 minutes. But, actually, it should be 88 minutes. The edited part (which is the meaning of the last sentence of the movie!!! And also one of the best scene of the movie!!!) is Leland Crooke' s (Jumper) telling a story, which is just in the beginning of the movie. Then, the title and the names show up. But, in the edited version the movie starts from the title and showing names with the theme, with the scene of the river. Right now, I am looking for this longer version of the movie to buy. But, I could not find it anywhere. If you have any idea about this, please reply me. Thanks...

This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I have very few in my video library, but this one is up front. It's touching, it's hilarious, it's so tightly involved. Don't miss this one!
