I found this book to be both eye opening and gut wrenching. I have long ago stopped watching the news channels. I am an Independent and have been closely following the GOP race and polls on the net. While browsing I came across a blog about the tarmac incident..... curious about the cause I bought the book. The book comes across as very authentic. If I had any...

2.0 out of 5 stars I did revise this from an earlier review after reading this
Actually, as far as right wing politics goes this is an atypical op-ed for an ongoing problem that has been going on in Arizona for much of the 40+ years I have spent here. My father always kept 4 dogs roaming our 2 acre property in rural Cochise county because of his fear of someone breaking in or stealing some of his stock. However, we never had any problems or fears of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Actions speak more than words, January 27, 2012
I found this book to be both eye opening and gut wrenching. I have long ago stopped watching the news channels. I am an Independent and have been closely following the GOP race and polls on the net. While browsing I came across a blog about the tarmac incident..... curious about the cause I bought the book. The book comes across as very authentic. If I had any doubts, the hateful personal attacks from those who obviously did not read the book proves just how true it is. What is gut wrenching is the president is now raising the stakes and repeating the same behavior, except it is at the national level and pitting Americans against each other. It is the same ploy.... point the finger at the 1%, it is their fault we don't have jobs, their fault the housing market is still falling with 4 million foreclosures this year (despite being put on hold due to fraud), their fault we have an anemic economy, and their fault the dollar is free falling. The reason for the financial crisis is corruption. Four years later no one has been convicted. But, billions and billions of bail outs, incentives, etc. have continued, without even forcing the primary players in the crisis out of their jobs. Not one person is sitting in jail for the biggest case of corruption, fraud, and insider trading between Washington and Wall Street ever. It started with Republicans and then continued with the Democrats. Instead of doing his job and doing the things I voted him in office to do, he is deliberately inciting class warfare (e.g., 1% predominantly white republican race warfare) by blaming others. I believe history will judge this president harshly. That is if the America I know and love survives his presidency. I have been a swing voter and 100% of the presidents I have voted for have been elected. I don't really like any of the Republican candidates, but I can assure you this swing vote will go to anyone who can beat Obama. I am praying my luck in selecting the winning candidate holds. Anyone who is concerned about the rhetoric you are hearing right now needs to read this book. Governor Brewer's actions to protect her state's citizens speaks volumes louder than all the slanderous words from her detractors. And the President's actions speak volumes about the words that will be coming out of his mouth this year.

This book is an outstanding description of the challenges faced by border states and the denial of federal politicians anxious to corner the hispanic vote. Reviews for this book obviously fall along party lines but the despicable motivations of those on the left intent on rupturing the rule of law re immigration in the name of gaining or maintaining power will leave you numb. Immigration is great as long as it's legal. 5 stars for courage and leadership Governor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful for someone interested in state vs. fed, January 25, 2012
This review is from: Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border (Hardcover)
Honest and insightful.

We are bombarded with the medias take on events in AZ and one sides negative portrait of those in AZ who live on the front lines.

If you believe people in AZ who are against illegal immigration are racist then you should read this book. At least then you can say you honestly listened to the other side.

I found this book to be clear in it's explanation of the illegal immigration problem and the burden it places on our nation. Good Job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take the one star reviews with a grain of salt..., January 27, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Just thought it was worth mentioning that out all 34 one star "reviews" that currently exist for this book, not a single one of them is a verified Amazon purchase.

Does that mean that none of them got a copy of this book from anywhere else? Of course not. One of them claims to have checked out a copy from a library, and that could be true. Could be, but it's much more likely that the overwhelming majority of them are simply lying about having read the book because they disagree with Jan Brewer's political beliefs (enforcing the law) and they want to try to retard the sales of her book by posting phony reviews.

Gov. Brewer is a hero for doing the right thing even when it's the most difficult thing to do. She's a patriot for trying to enforce the rule of law and protect her citizens while fighting off the attacks from Obama and his administration. Obama swore to uphold the constitution and our laws but instead he's mocking and attacking those who do. This book is a well written must-read if you want the real scoop on that battle.

This review is from: Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border (Hardcover)
This book is well worth the read. The truth of a very serious issue in this country told by the women in the center of bringing some law back to Arizona and this country. The media has really unfairly treated and brain washed the truth away.

Governor Jan Brewer was able to tell the story through her book..

To all of you not living in Arizona and who do not know the ranchers on the border or the illegal aliens who are friends to many of us here have no clue what we as a state have to go through.

God Bless Jan for having the guts to do what other politicains have not been able to do..
Please give it a read before placing judgement on those who see the whole picture and not just one problem in the fight to make the Arizona people and the innocent illegals safe from the war at the border..

Laws are made for reasons..not breaking..Old laws need to be reinforced not ignored..MEXICO clean up your country!!! Time for the blame game to STOP!! Thank You Jan Brewer

I'm pleased that Jan wrote this book. She explains her reasons for signing the dreaded law into being. Arizona took some heavy heat for even passing this law making illegals, yes illegal. Being an Arizona citizen in my eyes means having a deep appreciation for our Hispanic culture and our Hispanic peoples. Mexico is our biggest trading partner. We did not deserve the condemnation we received after the law was implemented and I believe this book will help others understand our problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fascinating Read with Behind-the Scene Insights into Arizona Politics, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border (Hardcover)
Living in Arizona, I often read about Governor Brewer in our local newspaper The Arizona Republic. SCORPIONS FOR BREAKFAST gives a personal look at her political journey and the decision-making process to critical issues of the day. The subtitle for this book clarifies the focus of this book, "My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Borders."

I found the pages eye-opening and they provided a perspective not given in the local news media (television or radio or newspaper). The book is well-written and the solid storytelling kept me turning the pages. I enjoyed reading it and recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border, November 29, 2011

This is really a great book about Arizona, the Governor of Arizona, the politics and the residents of both Arizona and Mexico. It's nice that Jan Brewer took the time to get her word out there. After the media and political agenda groups have distorted the issue of illegal immigrant with legal immigration it is difficult to get unbiased information about illegal immigration and the SB1070 bill. Anyone can be a journalist and/or a blogger now a days and just about publish anything they want to with out worrying about credibility or explaining their own agenda(s). I am glad that the Governor finally got to speak and I am really glad that I took time to read what she had to say.

After all this time and all that has been written and broad-casted, I still learned a lot about the illegal immigration issues from this book. She really understood the issues, but did not seem to realize the amount of emotions SB1070 would instigate. The founded and unfounded emotions generated were obvious a surprise when one state tried to regain control of a growing problem.

I highly recommend this book, especially for anyone that you know who tends to cry racism when illegal immigration is mentioned to them. It is so much better to get information from both sides of any issue, which all journalists and bloggers could learn by reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening, November 3, 2011
This review is from: Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border (Hardcover)
Jan Brewer tells the behind-the-scenes story of Arizona's (in)famous SB 1070. She gives example after example of real people and how they are suffering at the hands of drug cartels and human traffickers that the federal government has allowed to run out of control along the border. It's not just citizens and law enforcement agents who are taking the brunt of federal neglect - the author explains how the immigrants themselves are being exploited and abused because the government is unwilling to uphold the rule of law. If you support securing the border, this book will make you proud of what Arizona is doing. If you support human rights for immigrants, this book will show you how SB 1070 can actually help to PROTECT immigrants from the cartel violence.
