I needed to install an aftermarket radio in my Mercury Sable, so I decided to buy this kit. In the end, it works, but there are definitely some problems.

For one thing, this kit is advertised as 2000 and up. It is actually designed for only up to 2003. It will fit in later models, but it does not have the lamp for the passenger airbag indicator. If your Taurus/Sable is 2004 or later, you will get an airbag code indicator that flashes error code 18. However, this does not seem to be the manufacturer error, as packing indicates it's only up for 2003 models. The retailers really need to fix this.

However, there are some major flaws with this product. While the mounting kit is flush for the most part, it sticks out a lot on the top. I know for a fact that the radio is installed correctly as well. The second problem is the mounting system they provide you with. The clips they give you to attach to the radio don't work that well. With regular driving, it will fall out of place, so you will need to use the metal bracket that the radio came with. Once I realized that, I had to take the faceplate off to fix it, and that's where I ran into the third problem. Once the faceplate is put in, it is very difficult to remove. It does not pop out easily like the stock radio. You will need to fiddle with it a lot to get it out. Very annoying. The fourth problem was the abysmal manual. There are mistakes all over the place. One part of the manual even says the kit is for a Nissan Altima. However, the real problem is in the wiring directions. It says to connect the illumination lead to the power for the cigarette lighter. This is a bad idea, as you only want the illumination on when you turn the headlights on. The cigarette lighter is always on, so you could easily drain your battery.

There are some nice things about this kit though. For one thing, the wiring harness and the antenna adapter are very nice. They are the perfect length for the car. It was nice that the wires were also pre-stripped. For the most part, the kit is pretty easy to install as well, and it's nice to buy something that was made in the US. The CD holder seems a little bit pointless, but it's better than nothing.

Overall, it works pretty well. It has some annoying flaws that easily could have been fixed, but it still works. I believe Metra makes a similar kit, but I have not used it. Definitely check out your other options before buying this kit.

I actually bought this based off of the five star review on here. Nothing against that person's review. They were right for the most part, but the quality just was not up to my expectations. It's glaringly apparent it is some aftermarket product and the texture doesn't match my 01 Taurus's dash. Search elsewhere and you'll hear about it's cheap feel. It's easy enough to install and serves its purpose, but don't think you're getting anything special just because it comes with that "nifty" cd slot. You do get all the speaker cable you will EVER need (not that it matched my Taurus anyway). But seriously, if you can wait save for something else. The overall quality of this thing is NOT that good. It's doable, but you can definitely do better.

The difference in materials between this and the rest of the dash is noticeable. The little plastic piece that sits around the deck tends to move very easily, ruining the flush design that it is supposed to have.

I bought this for my Ford Taurus SES 2002 car. I had the original stereo but I wanted a new one so I could use an IPOD. I bought the stereo in Best Buy and this kit from Amazon. My husband did the work. This equipment fit perfectally. Great purchase!

Very happy with this purchase. All though the instructions were not very helpful the overall quality is good. it does come with all the wiring you need. I had to call the company because they said I needed to purchase more wires and antenna adaptors.... it comes in the bag with the cover. Bought it for my wife and she couldn't be happier.
