2.0 out of 5 stars Awful range
I purchased this for use in my car. I had planned on keeping my iPod in the glove compartment, and use this remote attached to the steering wheel to control it. This turned out to be almost impossible. The remote only works reliably around 2 ft away from the ipod, any further away and it will start "missing" commands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect accessory..., February 15, 2008
This review is from: Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod (Electronics)
This is the perfect iPod Touch accessory. It works great - controls volume, track forward/backward, shuffle, and playlist functions (I have not tried the playlist function). If you press and hold the track buttons, it fast forwards or reverses through the current track. Press and release changes tracks. You can remove the remote from the steering wheel holder and use it on your desk, a very nice feature. The iPod does not have to be unlocked for use. The iPod backlight comes on when a remote button is pressed, but goes out in about 8 seconds. It is truly a keep-eyes-on-the-road operation.

Contrary to another review, the unit functions with a charge cord connected and charging.

The receiver adapter gets its power from the iPod. The remote button unit is powered by two CR2025 coin cells. I opened it by sliding my fingernail between the two halves and and then going around the circumference, splitting it apart. It's quite tight, and can break your fingernail. There is no mention of batteries, neither in the manual nor on the Scosche website.

Pros:
Well thought out.
Intuitive operation.
Can be used anywhere.
Quality construction.

Cons:
Somewhat difficult to get remote holder really tight on the steering wheel.

After a prolonged idle (not playing), the iPod must be activated with its HOME button to 'wake up' remote operation. This is not the sleep delay mentioned in the manual, which requires you to hold the play/pause button.

No instructions on battery replacement.

Since I've only used these at most 3 feet apart, I cannot verify the 150 foot range spec.

Conclusion:
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scosche IPOD RF Remote, April 10, 2007
This review is from: Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod (Electronics)
I am extremely pleased with this product. I was so pleased that I purchased a second one for use on the Ipod Nano that I use in the house. I use the original purchase for the 8GB IPOD Nano in my car. The mount for the steering wheel for the remote works great, and the remote operates exactly as advertised. I would reccoment this remote to anyone that needs wireless access to their IPOD. It's a tad more expensive than some of the others available, but it's worth the extra cost !!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Accessory, August 10, 2008

This is an excellent addition to my iPod Touch. I use it primarily in my car where my pod is connected to the aux input of the car's stereo. Power connects to the pod via this unit so keeping the pod charged in a non-issue. I use the remote (fob) to change/replay songs and adjust volume and it works great because I don't need to touch the pod at all. I've been recommending this gadget to my friends. It also works great outside the car and I've used it to listen music, again, without actually touching anything other than the fob.

For those who are somewhat put-off by the appearance that this thing straps on to your steering wheel, you should know that it doesn't have to. you can use the remote independently. The remote (fob) is approximately 1 inch tall, 3/4 inch wide and 3/8 inch thick. It works great.

I use this with my 5th Gen iPod Video 40Gb and it works just fine. The pass through charging works like a charm with my Griffin charger. The response rate is a little slow (press a button, then short delay before iPod responds), but not horrible. The steering wheel "gripper" does a great job; I can tighten it enough so that it's very stable and doesn't give. Definitely recommend it.

This thing is awesome. Works with my 80G ipod video. When I plugged it in to my iphone, the phone said that it was not compatible, however, it worked flawlessly!
No more fumbling. Straps securely on my handlebars and is easy to hit the right button.
This will prevent accidents.

2.0 out of 5 stars Does not work with the pass through, October 13, 2007

The product works but when I connect a charger to the pass through port, the remote ceases to work, rendering the product useless. I would not recommend the product to anybody else because of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Use it on my Harley Road King, May 18, 2010

I am extremely pleased with this item. I bought this remote to use with my IPod nano. I installed a speaker set for my Harley Road King and wanted a remote for the ipod. I seen someone use this remote on YouTube and loved it. My Ipod is stored in my saddle bag which is fiberglass and this remote has no problem operating right through it, even about 50+ feet away. I attached the remote to my 16 inch ape hanger handle bars and is very sturdy even going 60 miles an hour down the highway. I just have to make sure the velcro strap is tight. And when the bike is parked, I just take the remote off the cradle, put it in my pocket and go. I recommend this remote to anyone whether it's a car or motorcycle. You'll be pleased with it too. Oh, and some places sell this for more than $75, I paid less at Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just doesn't work with pass through charger, February 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod (Electronics)
Unfortunately, I have to agree with the reviewer who indicated that the remote will not work with the pass through charger. Once you plug in any charger (I tried two) the remote ceases to function.

Also note that the playlist function does not work with either a 5th Generation iPod video or an 8 gb ipod nano. I called Scosche tech support and they affirmed that the playlist function is not supported with these ipods.

I am glad I am able to return the product to Amazon.

Very disappointed...

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect iPod Remote!!, October 22, 2008
This review is from: Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod (Electronics)
I have a fourth generation iPod Nano and I recently got this remote for it. There's a lot of speculation over the distance of this device, but this remote actually does work up to 100 feet as advertised. Those who found the remote to only work up to 2 feet might not have a newer ipod. This is just an assumption. I know it works for the 4th gen for sure. In fact, it works perfectly. Through walls and ceilings, it doesn't matter. This device will be detected up to 100 feet.

Also, I tested to have the iPod play for a bit and try the remote again. There was no delay and there was no need to "wake" it up before using it again!

For anyone else out there who has this for a a different model iPod, please post up a review for others to know that it works.
