This is the 5th retractable cable I have purchased for my iPhone. It is the only one worth the time and money, but be forewarned... the cable is absolutely not 4' as the description states. The packaging for the product clearly states "2.7 foot cable length" and that is indeed what it is.

18 months later. Product has failed. Used almost daily. Survived approx 500 cycles. Retraction still works, but fails to make a connection with computer. Probably broken wire internally. I am ordering another one immediately. Product very much worth the money.

This cable has survived being bashed around in my purse and removed and replaced many times. It is a decent quality retractable (many retractables break after just a few uses), but is on the larger size (spool size, not length). Not a good choice if you are looking for the smallest possible iPod cable, but a good choice if you want one that might last longer. The retraction sometimes sticks a bit, but I've never had it completely fail and it's still fully functional.

Scosche is a brand I was unfamiliar with prior to this purchase. I'm pleased to make its acquaintance. I had previously purchased a less expensive retractable unit and had nothing but problems with it. Poor build quality, poor connectivity: Apple iPhone 3G Retractable Sync & Charge USB Cable (White). AVOID THIS UNIT! In sync operations, it cut in and out of the connection, and once it cut out at a point where important data was being transferred, corrupting my data and requiring a full restore! Needless to say, I was back in the market for a better one. I did a search and sorted by customer review. The Scosche was on top. So, what the heck.

I couldn't be happier with my decision. Yes, it's expensive. I know. But if it lasts and continues to perform as it is now, it was worth every penny. In my judgment it will last indefinitely, at least long enough for Apple to produce a new gadget with a different connection type....! It's very well made (bulkier than the other unit, but with a better, tighter coil spring inside and clearly greater durability. I'm so impressed, I'm planning on getting the same brand for USB-MicroUSB (for my Kindle and my Archos Android), and one for USB-MiniUSB (for my Nikon D90 camera and RichardSolo external iPhone charger).

Yes, I'm an incurable gadget fanatic. Comments or questions welcome.
