I needed a mount for my cell phone which would mount up near eye level and I didn't want to mount it on the windshield. The air vent seemed the best spot for the task. This mount has worked well for my Nokia Nuron phone. I use the GPS with this phone and am able to locate it just to the right of my steering wheel. The grip is nice and secure and it seems widly adjustable to where I can mount my iPod touch in it if I wanted to. The side grips are also adjustable on how high and low the pads will grip your phone. This was nice for me because I was able to adjust it so I had access to the screen unlock switch on the side without removing it from the mount. An obvious downside is that it totally blocks the air from the vent. My wife hates that and tries to remove it everytime she drives. I was a little nervous about it breaking in this regard and it doesn't seem like something you want to be removing and installing repeatedly. One way we temporarily removed it was to slide the pegs to the center and pop them out of the frame; that way we were able to keep the arms attached to the vents. Only time will tell if it stands up to our removals and installs. All in all, I recommend this product as long as you have a spare nice sized vent on the other side that will keep you cool ;-) EDIT: Recently, the arms that slide in to grip your phone stopped ratcheting so it would no longer grip. I didn't use it extensively over the past year so my conclusion is that its somewhat cheaply made. Will not buy another one.

Beware of spring loaded clamps...,

I bought this to mount an external XM radio in my car. My sister has one for her Garmin, and loves it, so I thought I'd try it myself. I've had it for only a few days, and it works, but one of the spring loaded clamps comes apart everytime I try to move the mount or simply remove the XM radio from the mount to hide it when parked. Spring goes flying, and more than once I thought I'd lost it for good...It does work without that spring (the other clamp has never come apart and is nice and tight), but then the whole thing flops a little. Also, the bracket itself is large and bulky, so I ended up removing the bracket and mounting the XM radio directly to the face of the mount - the back of the XM radio has a mounting peg that fits the notch on the mount face nice and tight. Works great, less bulk and less intrusive. Still have the spring problem though...Should have bought a vent mount specifically for XM radios. Wouldn't have ended up with a useless bracket, and possibly would have a better clamp design than the spring loaded one. The bracket itself seems nice and well made (I like the button used to control the width of the clamps), but it was too bulky for my situation. I'll keep this mount for now because so far it hasn't fallen off the vent (even with the one spring missing), but should that happen, I'll be in the market for something else (without springs!).

I thought this device was a good idea. However I had a hard time getting the prongs on to the same level of my vent openings. Once I got it back off (with some difficulty) I was afraid that if I ever wanted to take it off my vent again that I break something in the process (either this device or my vent).
