Deceptive advertising, terrible service from GizmosforLife,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Don't waste your time on this product or seller. The product sound range is advertised as 35-130 dB while in reality the box says the range 60-130 dB and it doesn't pick up anything less than 60 db at all. The difference is substantial. This product won't pick up any noise that's below loud-talking/moderate yelling-level. It's meant for bands and very loud noises, not loud-but-below-yelling-level noise problems.GizmosforLife is the worst seller that I have encountered on Amazon. I notifyed them of the deceptive advertising and many days later I got a form response to call tech support as if they would magically transform the product into what the deceptive advertising claims it to be. Today, the ad is still wrong. I have to waste my time returning and reorder another one. Save yourself the time and headache and buy a better decibel reader from a better seller.

Great so far!,

I'm not sure what product some of the other reviewers ended up with, but the SPL1000 I just got says on the front of the package "30 to 130 dB"... I just measured my bedroom and got a reading of about 32 dB, so this product does in fact read well below 60 dB.I primarily purchased this as a toy, and to see what I was pumping out of my stereos and the loudness of my motorcycle exhaust, and it does the job 100%. I love this little thing

Not for use on non-loud noises.,
I had hoped to be able to gauge the decibel level in less than raucous situations. But, as Elizabeth points out, this device is useless below 60 decibels: shouting level. It has never given me a reading below 60 in any situation, including a quiet bedroom. If you want to see how quickly your car speakers will deafen you, this device may be useful. For non-loud situations, look for something else.

First off, to confirm what a couple of other reviewers have noted, this unit will give readings down to 30 db. The 60 db minimum applies only when using the maximum/minimum feature, as clicking the button creates a reading in the 50+ db range. So long as you're holding the unit in your hand without making noise it is quite sensitive at the lower range. The product has been excellent for my intended use, mostly to measure ambient noise in my house under different conditions, and to check the noise output of power tools and appliances.

It does what it says and gives fairly accurate readings in the 60 - 135db range when compared to a more sophisticated meter. I use it to control the sound level of our worship band. You get what you pay for. This does what I need as I wasn't interested in paying more for a higher quality device.

I purchased this unit to test potentially dangerous noise sources and it performs very well. The criticism that the Max/Min switch makes sufficient noise when depressing that it locks the Max to the sound of the switch is correct. So if you need a Max reading in a quiet environment, this unit is not for you. Otherwise, it works great and I highly recommend...

This is a great product. Many people claimed that it does not detect anything below around 50 to 60 dB, but I found that it was quite sensitive to even low levels of noise. I used this device to measure the sound levels at a local Salsa Club and found out that they are in the range of 90 - 100 dB (right near the speakers), According to OSHA and NISH requirements (which are more stringent), you should spend no more than 2 - 3 hours a day at this noise level before risking hearing damage. I was going regularly and for 4 or more hours at a time (3 - 4 x a week) and developed chronic tinnitus (ear ringing) as a result of this. Anyway, great product, and it gave me the information that I was looking for. Wear your earplugs!!

I don't know about the negative reviews for this, other than they're five years old, but this device is exactly what I needed and a great price for it.If you're looking for a professionally decibmeter, you're going to pay $100. If you want A decibmeter, look no further. Easy to use, believe to be accurate, works well. This'll get the sound guy at church to turn up the friggin' volume.

A very useful tool.I'm an audio engineer in training and this thing comes in handy quite a bit. Many people commented that the dynamic sensitivity was only from 60 to 135 db. Perhaps I got a special model or something, but I just measured a 34.5db signal, so I don't see what the issue is. Anyways, it works great. Long battery life, good sensitivity, and that light adjustment thing comes in handy. |
