5.0 out of 5 stars Great book but maybe not for everyone, July 16, 2000

This review is from: A Scot Gallery Eccentric: Wry Tales of a Little-Known Realm (Hardcover)
I first became acquainted with Tom Roy through his comic strip The Pitts. It was in a Detriot newspaper, and it took several strips before I started to get his odd sense of humor. Once I understood his style, the strip became quite a treat to read. I'm giving a warning, though, that many will probably not find his humor all that funny. It is very unusual. For example, one of his strips of the Pitts showed a drawing of three different sized elf-looking characters, all of whom were jumping in the air. the caption read "Large, medium, and small pixies jumping as high as they can (it will not help them)." That is it. For some reason, me and my entire family found these strips utterly hilarious.

The humor in this book is similar. the book is a series of short biographies, just a sentence or two, about different scottish terriers accompanied with a drawing of them. I think perhaps the best description of both this book and its author's sense of humor are given by a word in the title-- eccentric.

In closing, I found this book to be extremely funny. Anyone who is into a quirky, off the wall sense of humor, or who knows and loves the Pitts, should definately buy this book.
