This review is from: The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Accidental Witch Trilogy, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
A century ago Rory MacKenzie's Scottish ancestor let the people in his village talk him out of marrying the rumored-witch Lili Lockhart. Until then, visitors from all over the globe came to ride Drummond MacKenzie's Immortal Classic Carousel. The village thrived. But when Drummond broke his engagement to Lili, and she fled to America, Drummond broke up the set of zodiac figures on his carousel too. Heart broken, he shipped the carousel's Aquarius unicorn to Lili. Even though the mechanics of the carousel were perfect, it never worked again. The village went into decline. Legend says that only the unicorn's return will cause the carousel to work. Until then, the village will not recover.
Because of Drummond's actions in the past, Rory is a hermit, disliked by the locals. Rory has long dreamed of bringing the unicorn back to Scotland, restoring the carousel, and becoming the village hero. But no one knows where the unicorn is. Then Rory sees it on television. It stands in a vintage dress and curio shop in Salem, Massachusetts. Rory sets out for Salem, determined to fight for the village's treasure. Lili left a key to her female descendants a century ago. Each lady has tried to open the antique wardrobe with the key, only to fail. Family legend says that only the daughter who inherited Lili's magic can open the wardrobe and complete her spell. Victoria Cartwright is shocked when the wardrobe opens to reveal the most beautiful unicorn she's ever seen. Her friends have told her for years that she is a witch. But Victoria does not believe that she one. Yes, she often finds herself muttering rhyming wishes out loud, usually without even realizing it. But that is NOT why the things happen almost instantly. It is just coincidence! Now people came from all over to view the unicorn in her shop. Other than the burden of debt from her Nana's recent death, everything is wonderful for Victoria - until Rory shows up with all his secrets. ***** Here is an enchanting story that made me actually believe in magic! (At least for a little while. Hey, what can I say? The author's writing makes it seem so REAL!) Victoria and Rory are perfect for each other and emotions run high when they are together. The story holds several humorous touches as well, such as Victoria's psycho cat, Tigerstar. This A.D.H.D. feline has the stripes of a tiger, the coloring of a zebra, and a star to mark the point that the strips all come together at. Just as wild as three new characters, introduced as Victoria's half-sisters (triplets). Harmony, Destiny, and Storm embrace their magical gifts. More than anything, I would love to see these three get their very own stories told. (Author Annette Blair, that is a huge hint!) Highly recommended reading!) ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Great Concept - BUT...,

This review is from: The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Accidental Witch Trilogy, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I had tried her first book, Kitchen Witch and put it down after 2 chapters. I felt perhaps by book 3 there would be more substance. The concept on the cover sounded good, so I gave the author another chance. The concept definitely has promise, but the charcters are incredibly shallow and even sterotypical. Please, give me a hero who is even a smidgen enlightened instead of the neanderthal brute Scotsman portrayed here. Give characters who have some depth. I know this isn't supposed to be high caliber writing, but check out Madelyn Alt for good characters - oh and real sexual tension rather than the horribly crude teen-boy-soft-porn "tension" contained in this. The plot pettered out to little better than the aforementioned soft-porn contrived kind. Do yourself a favor and try Madelyn Alt!

A sparkling, witty, sexy paranormal. Awesome,
This review is from: The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Accidental Witch Trilogy, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Annette Blair successfully pairs a witch in denial with a Scottish hermit by giving the witch, Victoria Cartwright, and the Scot, Rory MacKenzie, the one thing Rory and generations of his family, have been searching for, a unique, priceless zodiac carousel unicorn carved by his ancestor. This comes about because of the love their ancestors had for each other.
Vickie's ancestor, a witch, left the key to the wardrobe containing the unicorn to the descendent who would inherit her magic. No female Cartwright had succeeded in opening the wardrobe until Vickie. But even after she opens it, she still doubts her magic. Who wouldn't? Learning who she is, is part of her journey. Learning that maybe the future is more important than the past is part of Rory's. The banter between the two is sharp, witty and laugh out loud fun from the first, promising and delivering a delightfully witty page turner from beginning to end. Vickie and Rory grow, evolve, and fall in love, despite their best efforts to fight their attraction ... difficult to do when a spell has them dreaming about each other before they meet, their dreams escalating to the erotic after they do. The Scot, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of the best love stories I've ever read. Like the MacKenzie family carousel, the story comes full circle in a splendid and surprising way, with a twist at the end that will leave you breathless, and smiling, and craving another fun Blair Witch. Don't miss The Kitchen Witch and My Favorite Witch. Although they can be read separately, they're all great fun.

The Scot, the Witch and the Boredom,
By IndigoRaiyne (Aiken, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Accidental Witch Trilogy, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I purchased this book because I read The Kitchen Witch and enjoyed it and My Favorite Witch and enjoyed it a little bit less, but it was still good, so I had my hopes up for this one.
My hopes were dashed within the first few chapters. I liked the premise, two lovers destined to be together and make up for the wrongs of their ancestors, thrown into each others lives by fate. That is where my like ended. Victoria and Rory never seemed to have any chemistry with each other, aside the overly sexual dreams they had. I found Rory to be gruff and overbearing and Victoria to be weird and confused. I liked her better in the other books, she seemed more self confident. In this book, she always seemed to be worrying about her weight and always seemed to be fishing for compliments. Like Rory would tell her he thought her lovely and her weight fine, and she would contradict him or worry about her fat if Rory touched her. I hated the sex dreams. Hated them. I read the first few and skipped the rest. I thought they were strange and while I could forgive the first few as a device used to reinforce the idea that their romance was magical, it got old after a while. I also didn't understand the whole random triplets showing up and announcing they were Victoria's sisters. She was far too OK with that. Their relationship was never really explored. I was also not a fan of the Scottish lingo tossed into the story. It annoyed me. And I hated that Rory used the word Selkie in roughly every other sentence. I don't even know what that is! Overall I felt like this book was written to complete the trilogy and set up the Triplet Witch Series rather than to tell the story of Victoria. There was too much going on. I would recommend this book only if you want to read the entire Accidental Witch trilogy.

Pleasantly surprised,

This review is from: The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Accidental Witch Trilogy, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Scot, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was a pleasant change from the average romance read. It's basic premise of the enchanted relationship is simple and lighthearted, and refreshingly not laden in peril of kidnapping, crime, or other intrigue used to create the sexual tension between the hero and the heroine. I loved the characters. I loved the story. And I loved the fact that it made me want to read the other two books Annette Blair wrote about the Salem Witches. Good Read!

ok but not great,
This review is from: The Scot, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Accidental Witch Trilogy, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
this was an ok book, but not great. i liked kitchen witch much better than this story. i didn't feel like rory and vickie had much going on between them but lust and maybe a curse.
so the basic story is an ancestor of rory's sent this unicorn carosel horse to america to one of vickie's ancestors. now the town that rory and his ancestor lived in is all dried up b/c the carosel unicorn got sent away. and rory is blamed and so he is determined to get it back to make it up to the town, no matter what it takes. ok first of all - he is a grown man, he should tell the town to grow up. second of all, he is stupid and selfish, and i didn't much like his character. while he had his moments, for the most part he was to uncompromising and stiff - and the puns between him and vickie were horrible and not amusing. as for vickie - she is a bit odd. she says she never trusts and then just lets her new family move in with her - after letting a stranger move in with her. and then after she finds out he (being the stranger, who is rory) using her, she doesn't care - just lets it go on. she says the unicorn is his - hello; his ancestor sent it to her ancestor, that is called a gift. it is actually legal. once you give a gift, one of your decendants can't track it down and reclaim it!!!! that whole part of the story was stupid. to be honest, the more i think about the book, the less i like it. however, there is something about the way she writes that makes you kinda like the book. it was so much better in kitchen witch, but you stil see soe of it in this book. in addition, vickie's friends and sisters are pretty funny. that being said, if you read the earlier books and liked them, you might like this one, but don't get your hopes too high. check it out from the library if you can or buy it used or something. but it wasn't a bad book if you have time and nothing else to read and want a light romance with a magic twist.

This book, the third in the Accidental Witch Series, introduces the triplets in the Psychic triplet witch series. I love Rory, our Scottish hero, and Vickie, a witch in denial. Ditto the double romance that reaches out to us. Excellent. A must read as are all Annette Blair books, no matter the genre.

I loved Vickie and Rory together, the idea of the antique, a carousel unicorn, that connected their families from a century before and half a world away. This book is sexy, funny, fun, hard to put down, and it takes the story full circle. It also introduces some amazing characters, not to mention telling a wondrous love story. A++ More witches, please.

Another great read by Annette blair! Rory and Victoria are just so right for each other. At first you just don't see how this is going to work out, but the twists and turns in the story just work things out perfectly. There is laughter, love, and a taste of magic for good measure. You will be introduced to the triplets-Harmony, Destiny, and Storm-in this story. A must read!
