From the Manufacturer

In 1930, 3M engineer Richard Drew invented an attractive, moisture-proof material to help grocers and bakers seal up their packages. Over 70 years later, Scotch® tape boasts over 400 varieties sold under the Scotch® and 3M™ brands.

Now indispensible in homes and offices, Scotch® tapes offer specialty and general solutions for many projects--from crafts and gift-wrapping to mounting and everyday sealing.

Scotch® Magic™ Tape
Frosty on the roll but invisible on paper, Scotch® Magic™ Tape features the original matte-finish design for a strong hold and seamless look. This tape pulls off the roll and cuts smoothly, resisting splits and tears for a sturdy piece. Thanks to its gentle adhesive, you can stick then re-stick each piece as your project demands, then jot a helpful note with a pen or pencil on top when you're done.

Ideal Use: All home and office needs and craft projects.

Scotch Magic Tape
Scotch® GiftWrap Tape
Keep your presents secure and looking fabulous with Scotch® GiftWrap Tape. Featuring a unique satin finish, this tape pulls smoothly from the roll and disappears on most gift-wrap papers for a seamless close. The paper holds together, and your gift takes on a professional appearance.

Ideal Use: Gift-wrapping.

Scotch GiftWrap Tape

Customer Reviews

This tape dispenser makes it much easier to wrap a gift.
Amazon Customer
I understand that the conventional tape dispensers often have tape which gets stuck to itself on the role and sometimes that can be a problem.

Overall, I highly recommend this product to anyone who has ever wished they had more hands while wrapping gifts.

This is pretty much exactly what it appears- a little dispenser that you wear on the back of your hand that dispenses tape, one 2inch piece at a time. No more wishing you had an extra hand while wrapping gifts or working on craft/kid projects.

The tape is good quality, the dispenser is comfortable. The only way this could be better is if someone came and wrapped gifts *for* you. But since Scotch doesn't make that yet, this will do fine. When the initial "pad" (the tape comes on a little pre-cut pad that fits into the dispenser) runs out, i will absolutely purchase more tape for this, or a whole new dispenser. I wouldn't wrap gifts without it.

I really like using these tape strips. Your hands are free to tie ribbon or fold corners without having to let go to cut tape off a typical dispenser. What I also like is that the tape is already pre-measured in neat 2 inch strips. I've seen some reviews that say the fact that they couldn't cut longer strips was a negative but when needing a longer strip I just used to strips a little further apart and it worked perfectly. In fact I would say that probably saved me some tape. The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is that you get a lot less tape for the convenience of the strips vs a regular dispenser.

Whoever thought of this thing is a genius. 99% of the time, you need a piece of tape that is about 2 inches long. So what you do is you put down whatever you need to tape up, pick up the tape dispenser, tear off a piece of tape (which sometimes doesn't tear right, sometimes comes out too short, sometimes too long), go back to the item you need to tape, and then tape it.

With this thing, you hold your item with one hand (the hand with the dispenser on it), get the tape with the other hand, and tape it together! You get the perfect piece of tape and a new piece automatically comes out and is waiting for you next time! It's so simple but so useful.

This thing is great for wrapping gifts (think of the first piece you put on when you need to hold the wrapping paper together), taping stuff on the wall if you're on a ladder, or whenever you're using scotch tape! I liken this thing to your friend that's tearing off pieces of tape for you while you are taping stuff.

Contrary to what others here are saying, I feel that the refills are pretty cheap; At the date of this writing (12/17/09) the price of a 12 pack of 75 strips costs 8 bucks...with free Amazon Prime shipping...although that might be (not 100% sure what the price per strip would be in traditional tape dispensers) as inexpensive as traditional tape dispensers, it's definitely not going to break the bank AND its not like you're going to be using that much tape for a LONG time...If you ARE using that much tape, then I'm sure that this device will be INDISPENSABLE to you!!!

Anyways, I give a big 5-stars to this guy, and hope you'll like it too!

Geeky Side Note: If you know what Agile Software development is, this thing is GREAT for putting up your story cards!

Truly good design takes something you do already and makes it easier. This dispenser is such a design. Instead of tearing off a bunch of bits of tape before you start wrapping, and laying them out on the edge of the table (or on your forearm, or whereever), it lets you pop up one two-inch bit at a time. So far so good.

The dispenser loses on two minor points and one big one. First, there's no way to tighten up the band (which was way too big for my wrist), so I put it around my hand, and even then it wasn't snug. Ok, not a big deal. It didn't affect my dexterity too much. Second, I had to do some major thumb wrestling with the dispenser to open it to put in the tape pad, so this isn't a solution for someone with arthritis who doesn't want to deal with a tape roll. More of a deal, but only if you have that issue. Third, the tape is more than twice as expensive as getting it on a roll.

Amazon prices change regularly, but at the time I write this, a 12-pack of pop-up tape strips (75 strips, 2 inches each, times 12) is eight dollars. That's 9/10 cents per strip. A 16-pack of 3/4-inch rolls of tape (1000 inches each, times 16) is about 30 dollars. That's less than 4/10 cents per two inch piece. The pop-ups are more than twice as expensive.

Most people aren't going to starve over the price of a pack of tape, if it saves them snarled tape and hassle (in my case, that will be when I'm putting up flyers, not wrapping packages). If you do enough wrapping to start thinking about economies of scale, however, this dispenser really isn't worth it.

(Since no one else has mentioned it - the dispenser is made in the U.S.A. So you may want to excuse some cost on that account)

After too many frustrating, finger-nail-busting failures at scraping a loose end of tape from the spool, I recently discovered the Scotch PopUp dispenser. It's just the ticket for wrapping small packages, fixing torn envelopes and book pages, and (in my case) assembling interminable, accordion-style music scores for piano. But the original desktop dispenser proved slightly problematic--not always adhering to surfaces and tending to slide around quite a bit. Moreover, I usually require lots of floor space and mobility while executing my "stick ups."

So Scotch/3M was one step ahead of me in coming up with a "handband" dispenser. In my case, it's definitely handier than the desktop dispenser. On the other hand (which is the problem--I'd like to reserve it for other uses), a "headband" dispenser might be even better. It's proven to be the best solution for reading my Kindle in bed at night, and I have no doubt that having tape strips pop out of my head--while not exactly a panacea--would alleviate at least some of the drudgery attached to attaching endless rows of manuscript paper to each other while enabling me to keep both hands in play.

With a bit of imagination, maybe Amazon and 3M can get together on this one, coming up with a versatile headband that will shine a bright light on the morning's priorities in the form of notes readers have taped to the cover of their Kindles each night.
