Return to the Homeland,
By Allison Patrick "Irish observer" (Norman, OK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scots Women (Audio CD)
The group voices on this CD blend in a magnificent harmony, especially in "The Shearin's no' for you". I have listened to that track seven or eight times in a row to catch all the nuances of the soloists and just to enjoy the sounds of a great woman's chorus. The solo on Robert Burns' "A Man's a Man for A' That" is a wonderful tribute to the poet and to his Scottish wisdom. The songs range from plaintive to plaintively comical (Mickey's Warning). As far as I can tell, all the numbers on this 2-disk CD are traditional Scots' music. The purist will be enchanted and the novice will be captivated.

A Beautiful Collection of Scottish Folk,

This review is from: Scots Women (Audio CD)
This album is truly beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. It presents a fine and varied collection of (mostly) old, traditional Scottish folk songs, magnificently performed and elegantly recorded in front of a live audience. This is an album I have listened to over and over, over the years ... and given as gifts to a number of friends. I have used it for research as well as for the simple pleasure of listening. It is a beautiful collection of Scottish folk!
