"In selecting the piano rolls for this recording, eight rolls were selected, which were originally issued at the turn of the last century, and nine rolls produced during the 1960's because of their simple, straightforward true-to-the-original score arrangements. MAPLE LEAF RAG is hand-played by 'Steve Williams,' a pseudonym which Ernest L. Stevens used for some of his work of piano rolls. Stevens was also Thomas Edison's personal recording pianist for Edison discs. ..." -- Michael Montgomery (for Heritage Jazz/Musical Heritage Society).
