THE SKULL RING: Julia Stone's shattered past comes creeping back after she discovers a strange silver ring, and she can't trust any of the three men who want to help her.

GHOST COLLEGE (With J.R. Rain): A husband-and-wife ghost hunting team is summoned for a very special case at a bible college, where Latin phrases and strange piano music haunt the night.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should be categorized as Christian fiction February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author's writing style was fine, and the basic story was too, but the increasing religious near rants got on my nerves by the end of the first book (what was required for the story was fine, but this went way overboard). I decided that maybe the first book, since it was about a church, caused the excess and started on the second one. It started out with quite about of the same, so I didn't bother finishing it. These books are fine for the Christian fiction category, but I would hardly group them with something by King. I think maybe the writer either needs to reclassify the books so they give the reader what is expected, or decide to leave the preaching out of his writing and do that elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of scary fun!!! April 16, 2012

Every once in a while I find an author whose words just seem to flow into my mind seamlessly and effortlessly and Scott Nicholson is the newest writer to plant himself firmly into my subconscious.

I stumbled onto Nicholson through a Kindle freebie, and I was hooked immediately. I love ghost stories and he weaves spooky tales of delight I simply can not put down. A little gentler than King, a little less raw than Rice, but a wonderful story teller that every one who loves tales of restless spirits and ghostly haunts should read.

I don't have a lot of spare time so I pick my reading material carefully. I will no doubt fill my Kindle with his tales and as for me, I will enjoy each and every one!

You can purchase these four books as a box set or separately, but without a doubt, you WILL purchase them. Enjoy this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Compilation to "Die For" February 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you bought this collection only for the book "As I Die Lying", you'd have gotten much more than your money's worth. But consider that you also get one of his most wildly popular books "The Red Church" and the psychological thriller "The Skull Ring", as well. I can easily say that these three books alone are purchases you won't regret, and that you will return to time and time again. I haven't read Ghost College yet, but I'm getting to it. A collaboration between Nicholson and J.R. Rain, it is rated 4 stars on 13 reviews and is the first in a series. Do yourself a favor, and stock up on these books at a price no one can argue with. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Red Church March 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has kept me on my toes till I got to the end of the book. Scott really makes you feel for the characters, especially for Ronnie, Tim and David Day. At first I thought the book was about not terrifying creatures and ghosts. But it is really about much more than that. It is about faith in God and family, and lots of bizarre murders to boot. There are lots of twists and turns in this story which leaves you with a great mystery to figure out. This book keeps you in your thinking mode, and The Red Church is very much worth the read. Good Job Scott, I will be reading more of your books. Scott Nicholson Library, Vol. 1 (Boxed Set)

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't regret buying this! February 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had never heard of Scott Nicholson until I got a Kindle for my 50th birthday and started hunting for books. Have read all Stephen King & most of Koontz and was delighted with this box set. I think I have found another author who I hope to be friends with for a long time. You won't regret buying this and will probably end up buying more Nicholson books. Buy it and enjoy.

So far, I've read only the Red Church in this boxed set, which was a free download when I bought it.

It was creepy, with excellent characterizations and descriptions of place. It was gruesome, which is why I did not read any of the other novelettes so far. From the reviews, it seems there is some variety in his writing, however.

The nature of this story and the way the scene was evoked reminded me of Ambrose Bierce, a writer whose reputation has faded into the past.

Four stars for the following reasons:

First, and this may be unfair, stories are not my taste and the vague ending was not pinned-down enough for me.

Second, the writing was professional and polished but nothing stands out that makes me say, "I've got to read everything he's written."

Excellent light reading. If you like Koontz or King, you'll enjoy reading these. The Red Church is very good with an interesting ending. Well worth the minimal sum Amazon charges.

3.0 out of 5 stars Less than expected
In the first 2 stories the Author appears to be an angry agnostic. The last story is extremely wordy. Where 2 or 3 sentences would due he uses 6. It was mildly entertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars mystery writer
His mysteries have the sci-fi element. They kept you reading for the end. Last book was difficult to read for the language, but was necessary for the plot of the story.
