Book Description

Scott Randall was plagued all of his life with incessant dreams of the same woman. As a standard practice, he tried to forget his dreams because they were too intense emotionally. He worked the graveyard shift at a hotel which left time for him to swim in his thoughts and work on his creative writing. One fateful night he was caught off guard during a nap, his dream is interrupted with an easy task. He did not expect that who he changed the bulb for would be the same woman from his dreams. He subconsciously made the connection but he had to remind himself of where he was, he dared not lose his professionalism. He sensed an agenda; she had on what he considered the sweetest perfume at three in the morning. Before he has a chance to escape she anticipated his next move, she took a step to cut off his escape route and he almost walked right into her. She gently said, "My name is Lyaola, you are marked for a destiny unlike any other. Your journey is about to begin." Exhausted from work and freshly desperate from loneliness, Scott was bewildered and felt like he was losing it. He figured it was just time for a vacation to clear his head. He never reached his camping spot, he was magically abducted into the world of Arius.
It was explained to him that he was believed to be Krandor, their greatest wizard of all time. Scott laughed, The Chancellor that brought him here did not. Scott was sure of their mistake and he made that clear, he was told that he needed to meet the Dragon Queen to get back home. Before he even gets a chance to leave the Palace of Arius, he is set on a path of clues that convince him that the Chancellor may have not made a mistake after all. Although he was intrigued with the adventures and challenges Arius presented, he was still not convinced. They were looking for a master wizard, he had zero magic. Slightly overwhelmed with the implications of his destiny, he is still anxious to return back to mother Earth.
And then she was there, meeting the Dragon Queen proved to be the literal woman of his dreams. It is her destiny to give him his, to be the very reason why he is who he will become. The ring on his finger that was magically permanent proved it, she had the matching ring on her finger. They were married and she had a very special gift for him for his birthday. Scott had yet to take any vows and asked her if she wanted to take the ring from his finger, he was just trying to see if she could take it off.
Then she told him the ring proclaimed who he was, "You are Scott Randall, my husband. You are Krandor, my lover and teacher. You are… Orion. My mate, My King… The First Dragon King," she said as reverently as possible.
There was just one thing keeping him from totally believing, "I have no magic. I am a child of Earth. I don't see how I can do what you ask." He had a look of regret in his eyes but she wasn't looking. She didn't need to see the sorrow in his eyes; she heard it from his soul. Yet, she knew many things that he still didn't.
"Isn't your birthday right around the corner, tomorrow in fact?" Marissa was up beat and knew it was time for the first part of his gift.
"Well, it was on Earth. Am I allowed to celebrate it here, too?"
"Everybody on Arius knows it is even though they know it as Orion's birthday. They think that he was born thousands of years ago. In fact, the day he was born hasn't happened yet, the day of his birth is tomorrow.
After receiving his gifts of magic he is faced with the torment of magical growing pains as it rooted into his form. Also, with constant mind bending situations, very old emotional wounds that threaten to break him down, he is convinced that he can do anything with the love of his life at his side. When that is taken away from him, he will do anything to get back to her. Even if it happens to take him thousands of years into the past, he will still find her.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read September 9, 2012

Mystery, magic, love, discovery... and time travel. A little of everything to make for the beginning of what could very well turn out to be an an epic. I'll look forward to reading more from this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars A surreal fantasy! May 28, 2012

How does a fantasy novel become surreal? By not even sticking to its own rules.
Hotel mechanic Scott Randall is transported to Arius, where he learns that he is to become the Dragon King Orion and the planet's legendary ruler Krandor, both of whom lived thousands of years in the past. None of this phases Scott, nor is he surprised to meet the woman of his dreams (literally), Marissa. He is mildly puzzled when it turns out that Marissa is also the Dragon Queen Mishna and a younger (albeit still thousands of years old) version of Aria, her alter ego. Scott also meets a few alter egos in travels through Arius as well as several versions of his parents who disappeared from his life when he was seven. He also meets his evil son Raxis, who seems to be causing the planet's ills, though he has yet to be born.
Stylistically, the novel is just as weird. Some portions feel as though they were written by a sophisticated pen and others by an amateur who is still struggling with the basic rules of English grammar. The volume ends with the note "to be continued." I think I'll pass.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting! April 23, 2012

I enjoyed this book. It has an interesting concept, but seems to fall a little short in some areas. The protagonist seems to have everything "given" to him. I wish there had been a little more build up to some of the plot points. Although I enjoyed the characters, they could stand to be a little more fleshed out. Don't take these comments and let it detour you from reading this is a good book. Maybe the next book will address some of these concerns.
