About the Author

W.F.H. Nicolaisen was Head of the Scottish Place Name Survey in the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh from 1956 to 1969. Since his retirement as Distinguished Professor of English and Folklore at the State University of New York in Binghamton in 1992, he has been attached to the Department of English in the University of Aberdeen, where he is currently an Honorary Professor. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
