I read all the 1 star reviews and it is abundantly clear that people don't understand how this product works. Maybe read the instructions for starters, but regardless. This is not kill on contact raid, it is a poison that takes time to work on existing bugs, yet repels new bugs from coming in. So, when reading the reviews saying "it works b y drowning the bugs" just know they don't understand how it works. I use this product 2-3 times a year and it works great, admittedly no well on spiders, but otherwise on ants, our issue, it kills them and keeps them out. I don't work for the company and barely review anything, I am lazy, but the 1 star reviews drive me nuts when you read them. Are we so lazy in America that everything must work right away or we are exempt from reading basic instructions? I don't get it. Buy it, use it properly and it will do the trick... be careful with animals in the house though and use outside as well, doorways, windows and base of the house, again, read the instructions. Thanks for your time and good luck.

We live in a very woodsy area and have a problem with scorpions during the summer months. Some of our neighbors who have a similar problem advised us to just hire an exterminator, but we decided to give this a try first, since it is cheaper. It works very well. My husband sprays down the outside of the house with it every 2 months during the warm weather, and during that time, we see NO scorpions. If we go three months without spraying it we do start to see the scorpions again, but as long as we keep it up every few months we don't have a problem.

My dog recently brought fleas into our house, and after trying bug bombs to no avail, we thought we'd try spraying this inside the house to see if it would help since it does so well against other bugs. We still have fleas, unfortunately, but I can see that their numbers have drastically decreased since we sprayed. And this stuff does not have a horrible, lingering odor like the bug bombs do. We have decided to spray it again in a week or two, and after that as long as the flea problem hasn't worsened, we may be rid of them.

I would advise trying this stuff before you hire an exterminator. It will likely save you a lot of money!

I live in a basement apartment and bugs have always been an issue. This year in particular, I had an influx of centipedes, silverfish, beetles, and other bugs. It was to the point where I was finding at least one bug in my bath tub every single day. I couldn't take it anymore. My mom suggested I try this stuff and I'm so glad I did! I sprayed along my inside walls (where ever there wasn't furniture) and have not seen a bug in my tub since! I also sprayed along the outside of the house and in the window wells. After I sprayed, I did find several dead centipedes around the house, but not one living one! Before, I was killing several bugs a day, but not any more. I don't believe that it will last an entire year, so I'll probably spray again every couple of months to keep the buggers away. It definitely worked on my pest problem.

Also, I have two cats and neither were affected in the least by this product.

UPDATE 9/17/13: I lowered this from 5 stars to 3 stars because after about 3 weeks the bugs started coming back. I sprayed again and they have been repelled/killed again. It didn't last a full month, let alone the year it claims. It does work at keeping the bugs away for a little while and it is affordable, so I will keep using it monthly until the gallon is gone.

I have been using this spray around my home for a year now. I live in a very wooded, swampy area of SW Florida and we have a bad spider problem. First HUGE Huntsman spiders (the size of the diameter of a coke can). These Huntsman spiders do not make a web. They are EXTREMELY fast crawlers and chase down their prey with amazing speed. It's truly mind-boggling. I have sprayed at least 50 of these spiders in the past year, and it is truly the only way to get them out of your home. They sit very still as long as you don't spook them too much, and I set the spray head to triple stream setting and it shoots about 5-6 feet away. Every time I have had a direct hit with this spray, the spider runs away. You have to track or watch where they go, but they always die within 30 seconds to a minute. The more spray you can get on them, the faster they die. You just can't catch these, so don't bother trying. Also, today, I encountered my very first female Black Widow Spider on my neighbors house while spraying the external base of his house. I have never seen a Black Widow before, and initially, I had no idea what I was spraying. It just looked like a round, black spider. Once I sprayed it, she spun downward on a web and I hit it again with spray, which caused it to spin around revealing the red hourglass on the abdomen. I sprayed it again, this time with VIGOR... and soaked it. Within about 2 minutes it was dead. I was able to carefully collect it and put it in a plastic container using two pieces of large cedar mulch. Closer exam definitely made it the Black Widow and I am glad that Ortho Home Defense Max took this bad Betty out. I also use this for maintenance spray inside and outside the home.Read more ›
