So I originally bought the spreader at my local LOWE'S which sells it for $49.99 and had a special for buy the spreader and get one 12 lb bag of fertilizer for free. Its real easy to snap the bag on and go but I got a defective one that broke about halfway through. If it is making a click-clack sound, yours may be defective. It spreads great but this is my first time ever fertilizing/weeding a yard. It seems to spread it around 2 to 2.5 feet wide and shoots about 3 feet in front. Most of the fertilizer will be used except for perhaps less than a handful of the fertilizer that won't make it out of the bag without great effort but most of it is out. I do notice that when the bag is completely full, it seems to spread much more of the fertilizer than towards the end. It is mostly made of plastic parts which makes me very worried about its durability. One thing I would recommend, when the bag is full, don't try to push it unless you are actively spreading the fertilizer (pick it up and move it to the spot and then use it), I notice that the spreader starts feeling like it is under a great amount of strain and may break. This is just my opinion. I am giving it only 3 stars because although it does a good job at spreading, it doesn't seem very durable to me.

Very easy to use and the Edge Guard makes it very simple to get along sidewalks, curbs and driveways. It helps save product and only place it where its needed. I like the fact that the handle folds down and will fit in my storage box in the back yard. I like the idea of the Snap Pac system although I think that if one reads labels, you could easily add another product to an empty Snap Pac container and get the same results for less money. I really depends on the size of your yard and doing the math based on how much product is needed.

Pros: It's a great system and spreads product evenly and is easy to use.

Cons: Value, but that's an individual's judgement call.

I bought mine at Orchard supply locally on sale for 29.99, on a weekend with no sales tax, and had a coupon for 10 dollars off when spending 30, so at 20 dollars couldn't complain. Used the weed and feed bag, and it went on as advertised. Then when I went to spread seed, bought a non snap pac bag, cut the top off the weed and feed bag, and worked just as well pouring the product into the cut snap pac bag. Well worth it!

Ever heard of King Gillette? Yeah, he's the razor blade guy. Buy some razor blades, and we'll throw in the handle for free!

What he didn't tell you was that the razor blades were going to be FAR more expensive from now on. Once you're hooked on the handle, you're going to need to buy the razors, and razors are EXPENSIVE.

This is the same general concept with the snap on broadcast spreader. I got mine for free as long as I bought two bags of Scott's Southern Weed and Feed. Great deal, until I found out that the snap-on bags are a financially bad decision. You'll spend more money on the weed and feed because it comes in the snap-on bags. Case in point, 8000 square feet of Southern Weed and Feed in the snap-on bags costs more than 10000 square feet of Southern Weed and Feed in the non-snap-on bags.

Bite the bullet and get a real broadcast spreader. You'll save money in the long run.

In the meantime, I've rigged my snap-on spreader so it'll work without having to buy the expensive bags. I simply left a bag on it, and wrapped some duct tape around the bag and the handles to keep the bag upright. Now I just pour new weed-and-feed into the old bags, and save tons of money.

I originally bought this at home depot for 49.99. As I am limited physically I thought it was a wonderful idea. No heavy bags to lift and empty. The first bag I used was for insects and it worked as advertised, but covered a much smaller area than promised. The product comes out very quickly at first, but slows significantly as the bag empties. As the bag empties, it needs to be pierced to or the remainder will not come out. There is no way for the user to adjust the amount coming out so it covers unevenly.
When I bought the second bag for weed and feed, the bag would not "snap" on and would not open while on the spreader. However, when I took the bag off it opened easily by hand. I repeatedly tried to make it work to no avail. I called scotts and they said they had had no other reports about this particular problem., but did send me their return kit.
One more thing, I shop in lowe's lawn and garden area often. I have noticed that in my lowe's there are no snap spreaders on display any more and more significantly, no snap bags on display.

Will keep bag in place and refill with other brands. Purchase cheaper brands but reuse the bag for other products.

The easy snap in, snap out bags are a nice convenience, and the fertilizer with weed killer has my lawn greener than anyone else in the neighborhood. However, the spreader is messier than the demo video would lead you to believe. Make sure to shake/tap out any remaining pellets in the base in when you're finished, or you'll end up with a garage full of fertilizer pellets. All said, I would buy again.
