This mower is Beefy, it's got some good weight to it, not flimsly at all. A concern of mine when I ordered was that it would turn out to be a cheap plastic, this thing is all steel baby. Watch out for those blades, they will tear your arm off. Since I started using it my lawn has been growing at a phenomenal rate, it's basically overgrown in a weeks time. The mower makes no noise so I can cut the grass as early as I want. After the first mow it was so awesome I wanted to keep going and mow my neighbors lawn, but you don't mow another mans lawn!! It is still relatively new and sharp so I cannot comment on blades dulling or resharpening. Cleaning the mower of shredded grass is easier and safer with a leaf blower. Assembly was easy.
What a day for a mow

After paying to have my lawn mowed by a professional service for a couple of years, I finally decided that it wasn't warranted. Watching them mow my quarter of an acre lawn with a huge tractor seemed a bit ridiculous, and the expense in this day and age was outrageous. I could have paid a couple of hundred dollars for a power mower of my own but the constant upkeep with oil and gas seemed to be more of a hassle than I wanted. What did I want? I wanted to be able to pull out the mower and start then and there, all the while insulating myself from the next inevitable oil company gouge of $4 gas. I looked around at the available options and decided that an electric lawnmower was also not a viable option. Technically you're still burning fossil fuels (coal or natural gas to generate electricity) to power your mower, and then you either have to keep the thing plugged in the entire time, or have to charge it. Seemed the best option was a reel mower. I settled on the 18" which cuts a nice wide path through the lawn (I'd say the Scotts 2000-20 20-Inch Classic Push Reel Lawn Mower would do just as good a job, if not better). If you have tall weeds in your lawn, you will have a hard time cutting them (you'll have to pull probably) but once they're down the first time, you'll be fine. Comparatively, I visited my folks and they had equally tall weeds in their yard after mowing with a gas powered mower. The weeds are simply pushed down when you mow and they don't pop back up until you're already past them. Putting it together was a snap, and you don't need any tools. All that needs assembly is the handle. I did notice that the handle does twist a small bit when pushing it (especially if you're applying more force to one side than the other) but it's sturdy and appears durable. The blades are sharp and cut through grass very easily. It does, as has been reviewed before, get caught up on branches but this is the only issue I've had. Overall, it's a nice tool. I also recommend using WD40 Co 10152 WD-40 Smart Straw on the blades after you're done, to extend the life of the machine and cut down on rust.

OMG Great. From a former city person,

I've lived in cities and apartments for the past 20-25 years. No lawn.
We just bought a house, with 1/4 acre of lawn. I built the mower wearing carpenter's gloves. 30 minutes. Then mowed the lawn while wearing a dress and flip flops--it took 20-30 minutes. We do have a flat lawn in the suburbs, but I was amazed that it was so easy. The mower weighs less than a case of wine (38lbs), and can easily be covered by tarp if you don't have proper cover for it. Our lawn has been unmowed for 4 weeks--2.5 of which were heavy rains. The mower went right over it. I know I should have worn proper footware, but I really wanted to try out the mower. It was great. I chose this model over the smaller one because of the hand rail--it's a solid piece instead of a split handle. For 100$ and 20 minutes? We have a nice yard? YEAH! It's not completely silent. Compared to a gas mower, a baby can sleep through it. I am ecstatic. It hurts to say that if it dies in a year I'll buy another because it was so good out of the box, but yes, I'd do that too. Very happy customer. Seriously--mowing the lawn in a dress with flip flops?

Just what the doctor ordered. Easy to put together. Easy to use. Works well up hill and down and gives me the exercise I need. No loud moter, smell or wires.
Highly recommend. Don't pay extra for shipping. Amazon's cheapest shipping is fast. FG

I'm a first time homeowner. I don't think I've mowed a lawn in 20+ years. The day that this arrived, I put it together in >20 minutes and was mowing my yard. I found it surprising fun! So I mowed my neighbors front yard too. Things I like- very maneuverable, easy to push, handles hills well, QUIET! I work from home and constantly have to close my office window when I'm on conference calls to try to block out the sound of mowers and leaf blowers. This thing is quieter than a kid's bike with a playing card in the spokes (do kids still do that?) If you run over a stick or something, the blades will quit moving, but just spin the reel backwards with your foot and you are back in business. My lawn was two weeks over due for a mowing and this 18 incher took it on like a champ. Now that the lawn is a more reasonable height, it's super easy to mow. I had my brother try it out since he uses a gas self propelled mower. He said he liked my better because it's smaller and has two wheels instead of four...which makes it easier to move around.

This is the perfect size mower for our yard - and with the free shipping and great price, we couldn't be happier! The tip about keeping it clean & using WD-40 was a good one - I recommend this to all with a manual mower - and Scott's is the brand you want to stick with! Thanks, Amazon!

I am happy with the product though. I did not purchase this to 'go green' at all. I purchased it because it is best for the new expensive Zorro grass I just put down.
This mower is easy to push once you adjust it a little. It adjusts with 2 simple screws. It does leave about 4 inches from any edge..like mowing next to your house or the edge of your treeboxes. I plan on keeping my gas mower just to use to bag the clippings as I have heard that the grass catchers on these models are ineffective.

Decent mower for small areas. It is fairly easy to adjust the height and my 8 year old can mow the small lawn we have.

a great push reel mower, but not a gas mower.,

this should be obvious, but this is NOT a gas mower: ie it doesn't suck the blades tall and tear through them with the power of a medium-sized herd of horses. So don't expect that kind of performance. It IS a great reel mower thats worked like a charm for me with minimal maintenance. It assembled easily, and I've never had any problems with it mechanically. As long as I don't let the grass grow too long (taller that the front safety bar) it is efficient and easy to push. If you (like us) have faster growing weeds, like spring onions, in your grass the mower will generally miss them cause they're too tall. If you're not a perfectionist, it works fine. I LOVE how i just roll it out and start mowing, while my hubby is still gunking out and priming the gas mower. Its quiet and its nice to enjoy that cut grass smell. No gas purchasing. Its a great workout and amuses our older neighbors. I use it for our smaller front yards, while we use the power mower for the back acre. I wouldn't recomend reel mowers for huge yards. The grass is healthier too, since reel mowers cut rather than tear the blades.

This is a great mower. It is not too heavy so my wife can use it too. There is no gas needed so it is the ultimate environment friendly product and you can use it even in midnight since there is no engine noise.
