Have been mulching for years and thought,"Finally! Mulch that doesn't fade". Well I don't know how it's going to look in a year but after one day I was very dissapointed. The color in the picture on the bag and the color of the mulch you can see through the plastic is great. Once you spread it out and it dries out(a few hours later) it's about 50% of the original intensity. Actually the color is pretty close to the old mulch I just removed from last spring. At least regular mulch looks decent and richer for longer in the early part of the summer. Don't think I'd buy it again. By the way...make sure you don't lay the bags down on light colored concrete while preparing the areas to mulch. The dye stains porus surfaces.

I'm really surprised by the negative reviews. I have been using this mulch for several years, and it looks and functions great. Yes, the color "fades" soon after it is put down - this is not a flaw in the product, but reflects the fact that the mulch in the bag is moist, and therefore darker, than dry mulch on the ground. The product is in no way misleading. The color remains intense, just without that "wet" look. If you did a side-by-side comparison between this mulch and others, I think you would find that this mulch, when dry, still has a more intense color than other dry mulch. Beyond its appearance, though, it is just a great mulch. It easily suppresses weeds, and it doesn't break down quickly. After the first application, I only have to put a very thin layer on top the next year to regain the fresh color (although some years, the old mulch still looks pretty good and could actually just be fluffed up and not topped-off.) I use this mulch exclusively, and the Deep Forest Brown shade is beautiful and natural-looking in the woodland environment in which I live.

I was very disappointed with this product also. I had the same experience and it stay vibrant for about 2 days. When you look at the bag it looks like the old mulch. I will never buy it again.

We put regular mulch in our backyard and Scotts Nature Scapes in our front yard. After a year the Nature Scape mulch still looks good. The regular mulch completely disappeared. This year we are putting Nature Scapes everywhere.

Literally. I have found pieces of broom handle, plastic, etc. The dye is spotty, some of it came out of the bag without any dye on it at all. Would never use again.
