Fun Projects, but cheap materials, January 17, 2009
This review is from: Scoubidou: A Book of Lanyard & Lacing (Klutz) (Spiral-bound)
I bought this book for my 8 year old step daughter, remembering how much fun I had making lanyards at her age. The book is fine and has great instructions, but the actual lanyard that comes with thebook was pretty cheap and snapped several times when pulling the knots tight. Also it the lace is rounded, not flat like the lace I remember. The round tubing was more difficult to work with. I would suggest buying this product, but definately don't bother getting the extra scoubidou stuff from Klutz, go to Micheals and buy your own lanyad lace that will b echeaper and much better quality for the rest of your projects.

Very Good, But Could Be Better, May 6, 2010
This review is from: Scoubidou: A Book of Lanyard & Lacing (Klutz) (Spiral-bound)
I love crafts but am not the best at learning by reading instructions (I learn by doing), and this book was wonderfully clear and easy to follow. When I can't get something right, I am relentless and won't stop until I get it, which is incredibly frustrating, so the clear instructions were of utmost importance. Great pictures, diagrams, is spiral-bound so stays open, but...a little more creativity in types of projects would be nice. Too much jewellery (several different kinds of bracelets make up the few projects) but the adjustable lanyards and wrapped pen and leash (decorates your pen and gives it a good grip, and the leash is a lanyard that can attach to your notebook or clipboard) make it worthwhile. The accessories are pretty (glitter, glow, pearl, etc.). I believe the round scoubi (included) is truly better for the projects listed in this book, as many projects simply work better and look much better with scoubi than flat lace.
If you want to do other types of "boondoggle" projects that are NOT a part of this book, like the box stitch, flat lace would be better (I've actually tried flat lace with the projects in this book and they look horrible and are extremely arduous, as you need to worry about making sure the flat lace is flipped and bent properly). This is a scoubi project book and works best with scoubi.
The biggest problem I have is the quality of the scoubi. They are cheap dollar store type, and don't have nice stretch or tack (to prevent stitches from sliding loose) and are brittle so they tend to snap when pulled (like when you're tying knots). (S'getti Strings by Pepperell Braiding Co. are much better).

i loved the scoubidou kit, most of the instructions were very easy and fun, my friend actually had this kit and brought it to summer camp so i made one and it looked so cool! If you want flat lace or lanyard this is not the book for you because the book came with round lace. The round lace is good for all the projects in the book, if you try it with flat lace it doesn't work! Once again or should I say the 6th or 7th time klutz has not disapointed me
