Melody captured my heart!,

This review is from: Scoundrel In My Dreams: The Runaway Brides (Mass Market Paperback)
I would just like to start out saying that I haven't read the other two books that go with this series. In the future I might read them because I really did enjoy the premise behind the series even if it was a little out there. When I first read the story I was a little confused by what was going on. Just an fyi it starts with a story and then goes into the future, but then goes back in time and then goes in the future four years later....see why I was confused. Just keep reading and all the back and forth will make sense.
Jack and Laurel well they have an interesting back story. Jack is "in love" with Laurel's sister and Jack had to leave while they were courting because of war. He comes back and Laurel sleeps with him to soothe his heartache over the loss of his cousin who died. When Jack wakes up he think that he slept with Amy instead of Laurel and goes and talks to her father for her hand in marriage. He comes to find out that Amy has moved on to bigger and better things and doesn't want to marry him. He leaves and doesn't come back for four years when he gets a letter from his friend telling him to come home. Laurel tries to get Melody back from Jack and he locks her in an attic...I know.....seriously who does that!!! This is one of the things I mean by out there. I still liked the story. Jack is an interesting character he isn't charming and doesn't know exactly what to say he struggles...a lot. You are really able to see his and Laurels growth throughout the book and that is something I enjoy in any romance novel. It is like you are on the side lines to their romance. I don't want to say much else because I don't want to give away the rest of the story. Anyway, Melody is seriously adorable and I wish that if I were to have a child she would be just as cute, but I am not going to get my hopes up. I use to be a nanny to an adorable little girl. Melody made me think of her and what a blessing children are and how they really have the power to open people's hearts.

So this is the last in a series and I waited for months for the book. The books have such a well planned plot that links them all, but I feel like celeste bradley didn't quite deliver. It was good, but I expected great.

I loved Jack. Although justifiably troubled he was a great guy. He loved Melody dearly and it was cute when he was with her.
Sometimes Melody was all child but sometimes she was too adult-like in her speech. Laurel truly loved Jack but after all was said and done I didn't really know a whole lot about her. Enjoyable book!

An uncomfortable read,

I loved the liars club series and was looking forward to this one as well. But, am I the only one who thought they were creepy? I couldn't get past Uncle Buttons sitting down with a young bride-to-be supposedly to tell her the story of how her parents met and how cute she was as a little girl and then on the NEXT page is an explicit sex scene between her parents! What exactly was Buttons telling her?!! I also had trouble bouncing between descriptions of the adorable little girl and her raunchy parents. I like adorable little girls. I like bawdy as much as the next person. But not right next to each other. This happened in each of the books in this series and I ended up just donated them to the local library. Eew.

This book, the last in the trilogy, continues the tale of the enchanting Child, Melody, and her adventures as well as the story of her parents. There is a strong story line with believable characters. It is also a tale of the resilience of the human spirit that can triumph over adversity. Both the hero, Jack, who has survived horrors on the battlefield as well as the heroine, Laurel, who triumphs over heartless relatives.

Just What I Needed,
This review is from: Scoundrel In My Dreams: The Runaway Brides (Mass Market Paperback)
This was an enchanting book really. I found the hero to be very enticing and dark and the heroine was likable but also strong. I think what made the book really wonderful was Melody, it was easy to see how she captured the heart of everyone at Browns.
The only quibble I had was that this was the last book in a trilogy and it was a little difficult to follow without reading the other two, I might go back and read the previous two novels but it isn't wholly necessary but it would fill in some gaps.

WONDERFUL,DELIGHTFUL HISTORICAL ROMANCE! SCOUNDREL IN MY DREAMS BY CELESTE BRADLEY,
By
This review is from: Scoundrel In My Dreams: The Runaway Brides (Mass Market Paperback)
SCOUNDREL IN MY DREAMS by Celeste Bradley is a wonderful historical romance set in 19th century England. It is the third and final book in The Runaway Brides trilogy, but can be read as a stand alone. It is well written with depth, details, twists and turns. The first in the series was Devil in My Bed and the second is Rogue in My Arms. It has passion, joy, romance, suspense, a lot of laughing, some crying, adventure, secrets, non stop action, and will capture your heart, especially little three year old Melody. She is the topic of this series. She cute, sassy, precocious, adorable, and you can't help but fall in love with her. In the meantime, three men think they may be her father. She was left on the doorstep of their club with only a note proclaiming " her father is a member of Brown's". Two of the men now know, she is not theirs. Everyone who meets young Melody, falls in love with her. When Jack, our hero, sees her he knows she is his. He remembers her mother coming to his room one dark night three years ago...he only remembers the wrong girl. When he goes to who he thought her mother was she denied it, and laughs at him. Our heroine, Laurel, was only seventeen at the time of the seduction, has loved Jack from afar forever, thinks her child died at birth, lives a secluded life with her sister. When Jack arrives at her widowed sister's house, Laurel sees little Melody and know she is her child. She follows Jack to the gentleman's club, confronts him,but Jack will not give up his new found child. So he does the only thing he can and kidnaps Laurel, or rather holds her captive until she surrenders to him.Jack has loved Laurel for years, but thought she was forbidden to him. This is a wonderful story of love, surrender, sacrifice, the coming together of a family, putting the past aside in order to achieve a wonderful life.I would highly recommend this book especially if you enjoy laughter, sadness, overcoming past tragedy and a story that will truly steal your heart. This book was received for review from the publisher and details can be found at St. Martin's Paperbacks and My Book Addiction and More.
