4.0 out of 5 stars A Madcap of Tales
I recently read this book and got a great chuckle at these short funny stories. I read the stories to my scouts and they really enjoyed it. A must read to younger Boy Scouts, especially at a campfire or troop opening.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing!
I had thought this book would be great for my scouting son, but was disappointed in its content. It has some funny anecdotes, but not as much nor as amusing as what you can read in any Scouting magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars my kind of book, August 31, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I met the author at Philmont Scout Ranch. He gave me a copy of the book and he gave copies to the staff at Dan Beard Camp. I think it's great. I like how there are lots of little details and it's is a crazy book pretending to be serious. If you like fun design, fart humor, scout stuff, and parody, then this is your kind of book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Falling Out of Our Chairs, November 3, 2004
By
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
As we closed our last Troop Adult Committee Meeting, I asked the Chair to end our normally serious planning and discussions with something of a lighter nature.

I began to read the "Honor-Oath" article (page 16) and could not keep a straight face. Handed the book over to another ASM who also lost it. After several more attempts at dignified civility, we read the entire story. All of us laughing at this very real portrayal (as we have new Scouts crossing over).

We stayed a while and fondly recalled one of our Scout's mis-adventures regarding becoming car sick in the Smokies and our unit's fondness for cobbler. All the veteran adult Scouters have been there. Nuttbucket has a gift.

We ordered 10 more copes for our Eagles and adult leaders; OFP pins for the SM, ASMs and former SMs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny scout humor!, August 29, 2003

This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Sir Oliver Nuttbucket III does a great job with witty scout humor. If you're a scout, you'll definately want to check this book out. I especially like in the back the fake boy's life ads. Good stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scout teens will love it, September 1, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This is a silly book for young Scouters. Great for a laugh or two. A fun read for the kid in you if you're an older Scout. Enjoyed the fun pictures and crazy ads in the back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy, November 2, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I got a signed copy from the author at Peterloon. I was cracking up reading it at camp. My scoutmaster bought copies to give at the next court of honor. My favorite part is the pictures and the fake ads in the back. The short stories are funny also because they are like stuff that really kind of happens in scouts-once our troop bus is alwas breaking down and getting stuck.

4.0 out of 5 stars timeless Scout humor - a great gift, May 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
A fun and hillarious quick-read book of short stories full of Scouting humor any Scout could relate to young or old. I especially liked the last story that tied the whole book together - great ending to a wacky book anyone with a sense of humor would get a kick out of. So enjoy and don't forget the cobbler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very wacky and clever, April 20, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I love the fun art and all of the little details. My dad read it and it reminded him of his scouting days. I like it because its not to serious. Its like Nickelodeon Magazine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Been There, Survived That...Still Laughing, August 27, 2003
By
Bruce E. Stoker (Cincinnati, OH United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
From burnt weiners to bad cobbler, "A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1" is a feast of scouting humor. These are the stories we swapped when the last notes of Taps faded into darkness, the ones we never told Mom when we got home. Summer camp was never this much fun--if it were, they would have shut the place down years ago!

As a former scout and camp staff member, I vividly remember The Pampered Scout--I watched his $... sleeping bag roll down the mountain while hiking the Loyalsock Trail in northeastern Pennsylvania. And The Scout Who Always Got Car Sick sat just a few rows back on the bus to the 1985 National Jamboree at Fort. A.P. Hill in Virginia.

Whether you have been a scout, raised a scout, or lead a group of scouts, these funny--and often downright gross--stories will make you laugh out loud and then wonder if Sir Nuttbucket isn't a troop leader you used to know.

"A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1" is an ideal book for anyone who loves a wacky story, particularly non-reader boys--it has lots of illustrations--who want to outdo their friends with the grossest of gross and weirdest of weird. Check out the publisher's website to see some of the interior pages and other fun scouting stuff.

Sure, I'm one of the editors, but I really love this book!

1.0 out of 5 stars poor use of ink and paper, October 5, 2008
This review is from: A Boy Scout's Handbook of Madcap Tales, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This book, if you can call it that, is the search for cash on the good name of the Boy Scouts. Save your money. This person was clearly a warped scout indeed if they can rip people off with such a poor work. No Eagle values or OA honor here. Stay away!
