The best thing about this version of the Scrabble game is that you can literally play it anywhere. The tiles are a bit difficult to handle so you have to be a little careful with them, but this little baby is small and packs easily. I have played it a lot on planes and have taken it on vacation with me to play with people when I get bored. Its portability is its best feature. Just be careful not to lose the tiles.

Best version of Scrabble yet!,

I love this version of Scrabble as it stores so easily and takes up very little room. If you begin a game and can't complete it the same day you can still close it up with the tiles intact. It just is really neat. I highly recommend it.

If you're a Scrabble nut (like my wife and I), this handy little road version of the home game is a blessing. It very handily folds up for storage and can be quickly and easily broken out for use. During a recent trip with several long layovers and securiuty stops, we never hesitated to break out the game and play a hand or two. Two annoying features: the aforementioned "popping" tendancy of the tiles to go flying through the air, and an inability to shuffle your tiles around on the racks. A minor third annoyance is lack of space in the traveling case for a dictionary (which has lead to some airport acrimony) - you have to place all the included items just so just to get it closed. Nevertheless, if you're willing to a) press down on the surrounding tiles when placing new ones for security, b) use your visual imagination with your tile rack and c) get the wife to carry a paperback dictionary in her purse, this is an indispensible accessory for road trips, flights, and vacations.

Awful version of a great game,

I love scrabble, but this version is just frustrating. The tiles are constantly popping out of the board, and are hard to snap into the holders. If we had played this game on a plane instead of in my living room we would have lost half of the tiles due to the ill-fitting spaces. You also can't rearrange the letters in the holder, so all of my friends ended up holding them in their hand instead. I returned the game the day after we played to the Toys R' Us that I bought it from and bought the regular edition.

The concept behind this version of Scrabble is fantastic. I would give it five stars, but for the tiles. Every other quality makes it near perfect.
The problem with the tiles is that they are *supposed* to stick in place on the board where you put them. But the reality is that they are difficult to manipulate and often pop out of their places as you try to press down on them. Also, the fold in the folio sometimes pushes the board slightly which can pop out tiles or make it difficult to press them firmly into place. Finally, after several games, one of my letters no longer fits snugly into place. So, this may mean that the tiles may be a little fragile in that respect. Clumsy people shouldn't be able to break them easily. That said, the game is perfect for playing on a bumpy train-- as long as the tiles don't pop off the board, they don't move easily. I havn't made use yet of the option to continue the game at a later time, but the security of the tiles while on a boat or train made playing, well, possible! :-) Also, the outside folio case is durable and the zipper handy. When closed, the folio is more like a small piece of luggage and is easier to manage than its plastic casing predecessor. You don't have to worry about making sure that all of the tiles are flat when you close it and you don't risk breaking it by closing it "wrong." If a new version comes out with tiles that don't jump and still fit snug into the board after hundreds of games, I'll up my rating to five stars.

PEOPLE TOO PICKY THIS IS GREAT!,

Some people are too picky. We thought this was great! Played it in the car, at the beach, etc... It held up really well. We didn't even use the tile racks, the tiles are small enough to hold in your hand, and move them around. They stayed put on the board, and clean up was a breeze. I like the zipper packaging (no lost pieces). It comes with a pre-printed pad and a place for a pen or pencil. I can even stick a small dictionary in the zipper game. All in all, a nice little package. Thanks scrabble.

I was stoked to get this, it was a great idea, but poorly executed. The plastic is too tiny and tight, making it hard to pop in the letters, which occasionally shoot off the gameboard. The racks are worthless, the pieces don't even fit in two of mine. I don't know if my set was defective, but it seems to me that they went a little too cheap on the plastic

Scrabble is one of my favorite games, but I really am not impressed with the quality of this travel edition. The board refuses to lie flat, making it nearly impossible to stick letters in the rows bordering the hinges. The letters are difficult to pop into their spaces on the board. The racks, for some absurd reason, have 7 individual slots in them, so shuffling tiles is a near impossibility.
This is highly unimpressive. If I want a word game when I'm traveling, I like the Quickwords travel edition MUCH more than this. I love Scrabble, but I'll leave it at home until they come up with a better travel edition.

Play Scrabble - IN BED!!,

It's revolutionary - you can play Scrabble in bed, on the couch, in the car, anywhere. You can hold the board and racks at any angle, toss them around like frisbees, and stop your game at any time to resume later. My girlfriend and I have become hopelessly addicted to it, along with hardcore opiates. We spend a lot of time in bed. These people complaining about the design of the tiles and racks... maybe they have arthritis, or really fat fingers, or some kind of developmental disability... but we've never had any trouble with it. I suppose I wouldn't recommend it for children or the elderly, but Scrabble has never been a children's game, has it? I also suppose, in an ideal world, there would be a better way to design a portable Scrabble game. But at $20 it is an amazing value, and a WAY cooler design than the $30 "deluxe" version with the corny woodgrain finish. I just bought four of them as Christmas gifts.

Don't waste your money on this horrible travel edition of Scrabble. It's tempting to buy because it looks cute and zips up, but it's amazing that something that should be so easy to construct works so badly. The tiny plastic tiles will pop out of place, often popping other tiles along with them. You'd better be dextrous or maneuvering your tiles on the tiny rack is next to impossible. The board folds in two and sometimes getting two tiles in place next to each other along the fold is not possible. I think the old travel scrabble has been discontinued. That's a shame because it was infinitely better.
