This book took my breath away. Truly beautiful, unique, heartwarming. It's one of those books I'll treasure from year to year, reading and re-reading the stories within until I know them by heart. It has a hodgepodge of everything - recipes, inspirational stories, Christmas tips, poetry, projects. I'm not sure how they packed so much into 160 pages, but it's an overflowing chest full of treasures!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration for a meaningful Christmas November 15, 2008
Format:Hardcover
What a sweet little book! Fun, accessible graphics present tips for simplifying your holidays, vintage poetry, trivia, verses, recipes and "Chicken Soup" style inspiring stories, and more, assembled in a scrapbook style. This charming book creates a beautiful harmony from the unique voices of its six authors. It would make a great "open before Christmas" gift. It's homespun look and content are a reminder that the holidays are a time to celebrate and enjoy, not to stress over!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Does Warm Your Heart August 10, 2011
Format:Hardcover
This delightful, creative gift book is chock full of personal memories, thoughts about Christmas, recipes, anecdotes, traditions, and Scripture. Some of the simple stories and verses brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart. I read this book in August--as far from the Christmas holiday as could be, yet I found it worked a wonderful magic in my heart, centering me in reminder that the spirit of Christ is something we need to consider and let live in us each day of the year.

This is a terrific book to give as a gift to just about anyone. The scrapbook theme and layout makes it perfect for picking up and reading just a few pages at a time. Every home should have a copy sitting out on their coffee table year-round!

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely little book December 29, 2008
Format:Hardcover
When I first saw this book I thought it would be something I would read in a few minutes. Instead I found myself lingering over the stories, enjoying the little known Christmas facts, and promising myself that I would try all the recipes. And yes, there are recipes. Truly a bonus. The pages are filled with personal stories that will touch your heart, and there are interesting facts that will have you thinking, "I never knew that." I've always loved the song about chestnuts roasting on an open fire, but I didn't know until I read this book that Mel Torme, who originally sang it, also wrote the song in forty minutes during a 1945 summer heat wave. I'll remember that every time I hear the song from now on.
This is a great book for any time of the year, and a perfect addition to any bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas Gift December 1, 2008
Format:Hardcover
This is a beautiful book loaded with useful and fun information and graced with touching true stories about firsts at Christmas time. From Karen Robbins's story about the meaningful first Christmas spent with her adopted children to Brenda Nixon's story about her father's first Christmas as a high school graduate (at age 80), this book will warm your heart. Plus you'll find recipes, craft projects, gardening tips (did you know you could grow myrrh?) and more. While this is a great gift to give, don't forget to get a copy for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars To be enjoyed again and again November 24, 2008
Format:Hardcover
This book is absolutely beautiful. I was so impressed from the moment I picked it up. I think all who read it will be too.

It is so easy to get bogged down with to-do lists, appointments, and stress over creating the perfect Christmas for our loved ones that we end up not enjoying a moment of it ourselves. A Scrapbook of Christmas Firsts is a collection of stories, memories, recipes, tidbits, and fresh ideas you can incorporate into your own Christmas celebration.

I tried to decide on my favorite thing about the book to include in this review, but it was impossible. Readers will love the nostalgia and memories stirred by reading the book curled up in front of the fire or just by opening at random and reading a few passages while waiting to pick the kids up from play practice. However readers enjoy this book, it is sure to become a favorite that will be picked up again and again, year after year.

I loved the book and find it a great read to begin the Christmas season. It gets me in the holiday mood for family traditions and I realize how import they are. 5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect gift to give yourself or someone else October 31, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I was surprised and delighted when this book arrived at my house. I had expected to find some interesting tidbits but had never imagined it would be so packed with fun ideas, inspiring stories and helpful tips. The fact that it is written by six women gives it a wonderful variety. Their different experiences and perspectives blend well but add a breadth I appreciate.

I had expected to simply read through the book but instead found that it really lends itself to peeking inside in small amounts of time ~ which is perfect for this busy woman. I am able to pick it up and enjoy a story or read about some ideas or traditions in just a few minutes here and there. Then I leave it out where I can easily grab it again when I'm ready for a small break in my day.

The book would make a wonderful gift item as well. It has a padded cover and the interior is laid out like a scrapbook, with thick pages and lovely designs. I'm thinking about grabbing several to use as hostess gifts during the holiday season.

Be aware that this book unabashedly celebrates the birth of Christ in a lovely and understated way. There are little stories or biblical quotes sprinkled throughout so it is definitely a Christian Christmas book.

All-in-all a well done book that makes a lovely gift for you or anyone with whom you care to share it.
