Book Description

May 1, 2005
Genealogist Laura Best follows up her well-received Genealogy for the First Time® with a colorful volume dedicated to techniques for preserving precious ancestral memories through scrapbooking.

Scrapbooking can be more than just a craft: it can become a window into important family history. Use those vintage photos, uncovered documents, and newly-found family stories to create scrapbooked family trees and pedigree charts, eight generation treatments, depictions of holidays and family reunions through the years, and histories of family homesteads. Inscribe notes on ancestors' occupations and hobbies, anecdotes, celebrations, and sad moments: every memory worth passing on to children, grandchildren, and generations to come. The page designs all draw on color schemes and images common to various time periods, and there are also techniques for displaying the scrapbooked material in shadow boxes and frames.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Best combines two popular pastimes into one superlative volume sure to appeal to both ardent scrapbookers and amateur genealogists. After providing some general instructions and tips on organizing, collecting, and storing photographs and information, she details what supplies are needed and explains an assortment of ways scrapbook pages can be laid out. The bulk of the book is devoted to outlining the various arrangements and themes, including chronological, fashion, folklore and traditions, family lessons, household duties, occupations, homes, character traits, and current events. Lushly illustrated, this handy guide provides a wealth of practical and visual advice for family historians interested in a unique approach to preserving "ancestral memories." Margaret Flanagan

I own several books that deal with Heritage page design etc. This is definately one of the best. I looked at libraries and bookstores before purchasing this. It is the first one I bought in this category and still the one I go back to most often out of about 15 I own. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wounderful Resource Book, January 23, 2008
I just got this book and I spent an entire evening going over every page. It inspries you to not just put pictures on a page, but tell a story behind them. She urges you to write about the sad times as well as the good ones. The page she did about being another Laura's namesake has inspired me to do one about the Aunt I am named for, and another one about my Grandmother's beautful blue eyes. Collect the stories, get the pictures and this book.. then enjoy creating a legacy that can be enjoyed by those who come after us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh scrapbooking ideas, September 24, 2007
I bought this book because of the wide variety of scrapbook techinques especially dealing with antiquing and aging scrapbook pages. I was surprised by the number of good ideas on how to scrapbook my grandparents.
