Six Things I Appreciated About Scrappy Women in Business,
By
This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
1. I've never experienced an anthology as real and juicy as SWiB. The stories of these 12 women felt delightfully revealing of how it was for them--the unexpurgated version.
2. This book wonderfully honors the messiness of one's life journey, especially when you're going for the "impossible." 3. "Going for the impossible" is an important message for our times. We no longer have the luxury of only thinking incrementally. 4. It's been a male-dominated world for the last 5000 years. The world needs for women to step into their power and majesty if we are to move toward wholeness during the next 5000 years. In this book 12 pathfinders describe what it means to take that step. 5. The book is designed as a collection of digestible bites. You can treat yourself to intermittent snacks or go for the 12-course meal. 6. "Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law." I love it! Until we create rules that are truly generative for all affected, we need to become master rule-benders.

Scrappy Women in Business Inspires us Trust our Own Path Forward,
By
This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
I first encountered Kimberly Wiefling's authentic voice when I was studying for my project management certification and was looking for a more grounded and salty perspective than what I found in PMBOK, the industry's official guidebook. To my utter delight, Wiefling delivered an honest, pragmatic and hilarious perspective in her book, Scrappy Project Management. Needless to say I read Scrappy Women in Business with great expectations which, once again, Wiefling delivered. Through this collection of scrappy women who share their life stories, we are able to see the larger themes of all pioneering women. It's easy to be inspired by their undaunted courage in the face of frequent self-doubt, perseverance when roadblocks pop up, ability to learn from failures and create a future for themselves with very limited resources. We are also able to come to grips with the fact that there isn't a typical "track" forward for women in business. Their stories allow us to be confident and trust that our own unconventional path can lead to success and fulfillment, if it hasn't already. These scrappy women also remind us to "own" our capabilities and recognize that many people and companies have already benefited from the wisdom we've gained in our journey along the way.
I liken scrappy women to fine wine. They say the best wine is made from grapes that come from vines that are planted on rocky hillsides where the roots have to struggle to dig deep into the ground to reach water. Scrappy women know how to "dig deep" and their results in business have proven very fruitful.

Scrappy Women In Business,
This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
This is a great read - insightful, funny, inspirational, motivational and totally relatable. Reading these stories led me to reflect on my own journey - the good, the bad, the ups, the downs. Everything I've gone through and all the changes that I've made have brought me to where I am today. We need to continue to be open to ideas and growth and realize that every opportunity is a learning experience so we need to learn from it. This book has made me realize that I don't know where I will ultimately end up, but for now, I'm just where I'm suppose to be. Great gift for anyone who is still searching, in between jobs or really anyone who is open to growth.

I had no idea that I was a Scrappy Business woman until I read this book!,

Thank you for creating a book like 'Scrappy Women in Business'. I've made it halfway through the book so far, and each chapter I've read has given me something meaningful to read over and over again. Each story just makes me want to read the next. I am excited about what I've learned so far and look forward to the next few stories.
These stories have truly opened my eyes to my personal and professional struggles in the workplace. I now understand that the way I feel and how I think about the challenges I face are all part of my Scrappiness!! The author, Kimberly W., wrote about the Imposter Syndrome. Oh, how that rang true to me. I'm sure there are many women who feel like I do, an Imposter, when they are actually very qualified for what they do. Their (Our) contributions to the workplace are invaluable! Each chapter has given me something to live by, live for and strive to be.

Scrappy Women Rule!,
This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
"Scrappy Women In Business" is hysterically funny. Kimberly Wiefling chose wisely in gathering this tribe of gutsy gals to share their "scrappiest" practices in the workplace. This book should be required reading for every woman who works in the "real world!"

A breath of fresh air...,
This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
Loved reading about the dynamic, powerful, talented, resilient women in Kimberly's book. Each has so much strength, character and ability to inspire. I read it in a day. The best parts for me were Betty Jo Waxman's advice on Gut Check Questions for the Aspiring Business Owner and Eldette Davie's lessons learned from the project from hell. Thanks for showing us how to bend the rules, be scrappy and succeed Kimberly!!

The Real Thing!,

This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
This book is a must read for everyone who likes to define his or her own course in business life. Eleven scrappy women describe their personal experiences and career path in business. It is fun to read, witty, wise, full of life, and stories of real women with different professional backgrounds.
The book editor Kimberly Wiefling did an outstand job in selecting an exceptional mix of contributors for this book from Hannah Kain, the CEO of Alom Technologies, to Nathalie Udo the life consultant and president of InDepth Strategies, to Pat Obuchowski the Chief Empowerment Officer of inVisionaria and many more. This book stands out of the crowd of books that describe successful business women by telling honest, non- sugar coated experiences. Some of the key take away points for me from this book are that there is no cookie cutter career path in business; you have to define it yourself; Each step that you take defines your career path; Some of these steps are unpredictable and can take you to new exciting grounds. This book is extremely inspirational and so much fun to read! Go and get it! Sonja Koppensteiner, President of InterGlobe Consulting

Encouraging, Excellent, A Must Read,
This review is from: Scrappy Women in Business: Living Proof that Bending the Rules Isn't Breaking the Law (Paperback)
Scrappy Women in Business
Wow! I found this book hard to put down. It spoke right into my very being. Each and every chapter is as encouraging as the previous one. Every woman who thinks even just a little that she has potential to BE, will find out through reading this book that she has everything it takes wrapped up in who she is to be that which she wants to be. I loved reading how some people we think of as unique and successful start out in life really rather ordinary, some uncertain of their futures, some who have experienced great challenges and knocks on their way to success. It did not just fall in their laps. No matter what our intensions this book reminds us that we are all amazing and we are all packed full of potential. At the end of 2010 I decided to take a huge risk and go 100% self-employed from February 2011. For one who at times thinks she has little to offer, this book has reminded me that I have everything I need to be great at what I do. If I add a bit of Scrappiness in the mix, I surely will succeed. A must read for all women. |
