About the Author

For two decades no one has been more closely identified with Scrap Quilts than Judy Martin. That was true in 1985 when she wrote the all-time classic book, Scrap Quilts. It’s even more true today. Scraps is Judy Martin’s 18th book in an amazing career that dates back to 1979 when she began working as an editor at Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine. Among Judy’s many popular titles are Pieced Borders, Judy Martin’s Ultimate Book of Quilt Block Patterns, Taking the Math Out of Making Patchwork Quilts, and The Creative Pattern Book.

I don't buy many quilting books anymore because they seem so repetitive in their information and patterns. "Scraps" is definitely one worth buying. The quilts themselves are beautiful, and Judy Martin is one of the best at writing instructions. Most of the instructions are given by illustration, rather than having to wade through cumbersome wording. Very clear and easy-to-follow. The blocks themselves are not that complicated, but her use of color and placement makes the finished product look spectacular. She gives directions for template and rotary cutting. If you like traditional (not "artsy") quilts, with no applique (a big + for me!), you'll love this new book.

This book has so much information for everyone, from beginner to experienced quilters. I have been quilting for many years and I found new information here. A friend that makes award winning quilts was looking through my copy of "Scraps" on the way to the Paducah quilt show. She said several times "There is so much information in here!" Judy provides practical tips that make working with scrap quilts very manageable and fun. Especially fun in this book are the patterns with shadows. So unique! I am so glad I succombed to buying "one more book" to add to my library. If you have a fabric stash, or want to know how to build a usable fabric stash, and want to know what to do with it that will WOW! your guild, this is it.

I got this book from the library and wasn't dissapointed. Judy Martin's books are always good. I found the patterns to be more contemporary than your traditional quilts. There are several quilts that have a "shadowing" background, which looks like the blocks are floating. It's not a book for beginners. These patterns are challenging.

One of my favorite quilting books (and I have over 150). I look through it again and again. Hard to decide which quilt to make first: Three of a Kind, Newport Beach, The Spanish Steps. But Monet's Wedding Ring won out because I have an extensive collection of batiks and I'm going to name it "Balinese Wedding Ring".

I highly recommend this book to every level of quilter.

I am so very lucky to own an autographed copy of Scraps by Judy Martin. I own every book she has written. I have made two of the quilts from this pattern book already. Her instructions are clear. The diagrams are easy for all to follow. You cannot go wrong buying this book. There is always room for another book on your shelf. But this one will be next to your sewing machine!
