About the Author

Carolyn Keene is the author of the ever-popular Nancy Drew books.

Macky Pamintuan was born and raised in the Philippines. He moved to San Francisco at age twenty-one and received his fine arts degree from the Academy of Art College.

More About the Author

Carolyn Keene and Franklin W. Dixon are the pseudonyms under which many ghostwriters penned the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, respectively. Both series were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet, and syndicate writer Mildred Wirt Benson were the two people primarily responsible for bringing the iconic character of Nancy Drew to life in the minds and hearts of millions of readers around the world.

I bought my 8-year-old niece the first three books of this series for Christmas and she loves them! She is an avid reader and reads at a high level, but these books are still entertaining and enjoyable for her.

Young readers being introduced to chapter books will adore Scream for Ice Cream -- a wonderful Nancy Drew mystery. Nancy, Bess and George are The Clue Crew, and they can solve any mystery using deductive reasoning and a super sense of fun and friendship.

When an ice cream company in River Heights announces a contest to pick the best recipe for a new flavor, Nancy is sure that her idea for Clue Berry will be a winner. But something goes wrong. A special recipe disappears, and it looks like Nancy and friends will have a lot more on their plate than mere ice cream!

Carolyn Keene's books have been entertaining readers for generations, and the Clue Crew series provides a great introduction to the world of mystery!

I have a struggling reader who enjoys mysteries and had outgrown Cam Jansen. These are a nice in-between mystery for those who aren't ready for the full version Nancy Drew mysteries.

I started buying this series for my 7 year old Granddaughter and she loves them. I look forward to advancing her to the actual Nancy Drew collection when she gets a little older.

Great Series!! I purchased Books 1-8, for an 8-year old...she absolutely loves them. She enjoys reading, and since she is required to read 30-minutes every night for school, the chapter books come in very handy. She often finds herself reading more than 30-minutes, because she wants to finish a certain chapter, etc. The stories are great, fun, interesting, the illustrations are okay. She looks forward to following the main characters throughout the different series. Also worth mentioning, is the "activity" page within the books; they are projects that can be done later if interested, and if you enjoy doing some craft with your little ones every once in a while, it's a nice addition (sometimes she wants to do them...thankfully not always). Highly recommend the books, and will definitely be purchasing additional series.Scream for Ice Cream (Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew #2)

My son is only 4 1/2 but really into mysteries. He plays the Nancy Drew video games with me and we read the Hardy Boys books that are the same level as these Nancy Drews. When the library didn't have any Hardy Boys that we hadn't read, we switched to Nancy. I was so disappointed. These seem to be shooting for "girl chapter books that are also mysteries" which is so anti-Nancy Drew! Nancy Drew is first and foremost a detective, doing things that girls were not expected to do but doing them well and gracefully. These books (we've read 4 and I don't want to read any more) are primarily about interpersonal problems with a mystery thrown in. They've added special skills for Bess and George, which is great, but Nancy is left really lackluster. She doesn't really have any defining characteristics here, besides worrying about other people's friendships.

The Hardy boys harp on problem-solving techniques, always going through Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. Once, I had to skip a joke that the bully made because I didn't want my son to learn it. In these Nancy Drew books, people are always mocking each other or saying mean things that I have to skip. I realize the target age group would already be familiar with these things, but it was a stark difference between the two.

Overall, if you want good mystery books, go for the Hardy Boys Secret Files instead. Your daughters can get plenty of" girl books" elsewhere.

This book got a 5 star review from my niece who is now 9. She likes the characters and the story and for her they are a quick easy read. She always asks for a Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew book for holidays and her birthday.
