Ted Nugent - 'Scream Dream' (Sony),
By
This review is from: Scream Dream (Audio CD)
A semi-memorable catalog release, but certainly no classic.Originally released in 1980.It's okay as I've heard Ted do better. One factor about 'Scream Dream' is that Ted is now full time vocalist, taking over Derek St.Holme's job.I didn't mind it so much, but I've heard several fans state otherwise.Just basically decent Detroit-style hard rock with the better tracks being "Wango Tango","Hard As Nails","Violent Love","Spit It Out" and the somewhat funky "Terminus Eldorado".I saw Nugent out on this very tour with the Scorpions and Def Leppard as support acts.A show that I remember people talked about for many years to come.

A longtime fan of the Motor City Madman 07 15 99When Scream Dream was first released on vinyl,I purchased it without ever hearing a single song. Being a teenager in Saginaw Michigan that was just the right thing to do. I drove to my girlfriends house "now my wife" cranked the stereo up to 13 or at least we tried and Uncle Ted rocked us from start to finish. Every track on this album C D sorry was ROCKIN TED STYLE like no one else can do. I just couldn't leave this offering alone. Up to this point I was concerned that Michigans favorite Uncle would not top his first solo work Ted Nugent. Some may argue that Ted Nugent was his best solo work. I think Stranglehold is a total masterpiece from a mastermind. I enjoy both C D's a great deal. Having seen the Motor City Madman in concert many, many, many, many times the Scream Dream Tour was the very best of them all. Long after the crows be pickin at your flesh and YOU got know control of the SITIATION Scream Dream with all of its In your face Gonzo Madness will rock on forever..

Ted Nugent's greatest album,

None of Ted's other albums can come close to matching Scream Dream's energy level. This is pure rock and roll insanity. Some of the songs make you wonder whether or not he is a sane individual. There are only two songs on the entire album that are average: Wango Tango and Don't Cry. This is one of the top 10 rock and roll albums of all time!

Terminus Eldorado,

1980's Scream Dream is the last worthwhile Nugent album. Opening with the ultimate fav Wango Tango, featuring some truely gonzo breakdown word play from the man himself, its the last classic he ever did. After the truely below par Weekend Warriors and the slightly average State Of Shock, Scream Dream seems to restore some of the mid 70's inspiration to raise it above the previous 2. As the title track shows, and Hard As Nails. The trademark crunch production is in fine order here and the riffs sound a little more rocking. I Gotta Move almost threatens to falter things totally with a seemingly false 50's style Chuck Berry riff (which isnt bad just done to death) but it morphs into a fun chugging rocker. Same applies to Violent Love. The songs here are nearly stripped down, Nugent at this point becoming almost bare essentials as what seemingly was an endless supply of awesome songs on his first 3 records drained pretty quickly on the next 3. He knows what people want to hear and he gives it to them.Flesh & Blood retains that groove rock feel like the old days, which for that, makes it one of the best songs here, the simple but very effective bass work need note. Spit It Out, despite its title actually unearths a fun riff and is something of a hidden gem. Come And Get It almost qualifies as well, a slightly cooking track with all the trimmings. The bass work and straightfoward vocal on Terminus Eldorado make this a stand out cut along with Wango Tango as the 2nd best track here. Things wrap up with Don't Cry (I'll Be Back Before You Know It), another 50's throwback. Scream Dream ends up being the best of Nugent's post Cat Scrach trio of albums, but none of them are classics thats for sure, and none of them really contain any classic hidden gems, few good songs as mentioned and obvious favorites, but sadly one of the tyrants of hard rock fizzled out pretty quick. So enjoy the first 3 albums plus Double Live but save Weekend, Shock and Scream only if you really have an appetite for the Motor City Madman.

Forget his politics! Intense, pulse-quickening, socially incorrect musical energy is Ted's gift and he never showcased his zest for life better on any other studio album. The blitz starts with the electrifying sonic blast "Wango Tango" and then Ted unleashes a unbelievable primal scream to kick off the title track. His intensity level will make your hair stand on end! There's plenty of Ted's ear blistering guitar work and manly lyrics. (It's safe to say that Scream Dream is most certainly not one of Gloria Allred's faves!) If this absolute barrage of high-energy, blood-pumping tunes doesn't get you psyched then perhaps it's time to secure a plot at Forest Lawn, because this is a masterful display of hyperactivity that is unmatched by anyone else in the music world. "Scream Dream" is a bonifide classic recording and a few listens now and then might just clear the sludge from your veins and slow the aging process as well. There is not a bad tune on the disc, and I always get a grin out of the back-cover artwork which has Ted leaping through the air in some sort of flamenco outfit. It's hilarious and truly fitting for the man who gets his endless supply of energy from within, not from foreign substances. Ted has a rare gift of mucho excess energy. If you are more human like I am, and have a low-energy day once in awhile, give this a listen. It might be just the ticket to get you back on track.

An enormous album,

I once shared a house with Aidan Pykett. Aidan had many wonderful qualities, one his most wonderful being that he was in possession of an album by a Mr Edward Nugent called "Scream Dream". Knowing nothing about Ted, I put the album on early one evening and listened is enthralled ecstacy - twice over. To this day I remember my thought at the time: "This is the album I've been waiting for". I could not believe my good fortune to have stumbled across an album with such extraordinary pulsing, maniacal energy and drive (not to mention some great humour). Thanks Ted for giving me the energy boost I was after. This one really did it for me: a truly awesome album.

Ted was at this point still putting out solid records but this one was perhaps a little rawer in sound style. It rocks and has some typical rockin' ted songs. Ted's music here is far less slick than on 'state of shock' too. I have to agree that this is still ted at his peak a position he has not been at for a while. Still to dismiss his later stuff would be a mistake as there are plenty of great ted songs that he put out in the 31 years! since this one. In fact he's live in denver (july 12th, 2011) and there's a chance the classic nuger 'wango tango' will be played. Who knows but this is a must have for fans of ted's style of backwoods beerdrinkin metal or hard rock as you please. His later 80's stuff is more slick by far than this one. This is primal ted and the best one of his 1980's output.

This is a awesome CD the songs really take me back to the late 70s. I took this CD with me on our yearly family vacations, you see I lived in Michigan and my cousins lived in North Carolina so since Ted Nugent and myself were from the north country I thought it only proper to ROCK their world with scream dream / spit it out /or my fave wango z tango [they were never the same after that vacation ] good times, boy those were good times.....

This album is simply pure, great, real rock n roll. This album reminds some of the mighty Zeppelin in vocal style and riffs at times but Ted Nugent really delivers on this album. The riffs are tight, the band is amazing and the vocals are second only to Robert Plant in terms of style. Every song on this album is a total winner, it's one of those albums you can listen to right through and not skip one track. Ready to Rock??? Get this album and turn it up!
