I've been following Sarah Bettens and her former band K's Choice since the early 90s when they were opening for the Indigo Girls. This is her first complete solo album. Sarah is just another great talent that seems to fly under the radar of deserved recognition. The only way to find artists like these is for the listener to work hard at it. Sarah for me is one of those artists I wish would release an album every month...an artist I can always rely on when I feel like I haven't heard anything good in a while.
I finally met Sarah Bettens, her brother Gert, and other members of K's Choice and her current band in San Francisco last fall at `The Independent' (an incredible venue for live music) on the Yellow Umbrella tour. Having enjoyed their music for so long, I was a bit nervous, but their friendliness put me at ease. They are real people. They write arrangements and lyrics that are as simple & direct as they are complex. There are certain musicians that listeners can relate to on a different level than others...Sarah Betten's is one of those musicians. She's a real person, writing relevant music. Buy all K's Choice albums and buy this new album...spread the word.

Last year I went to see K's Choice play here in Dallas on the Yellow Umbrella tour. Before the show I looked over at the bar and Sarah was standing there all plain sight incognito having a drink before her band took the stage. I couldn't resist going over to meet her though I have to confess that the words of 'My Record Company' off of K's Choice 'Paradise in Me' were haunting my every step. As it turns out she's just this laid back, approachable, and very friendly person who happens to be one of the most consistently talented and very much underrated musicians around. Their words actually mean something...their music alternates between haunting, fun and soulful...their presence in concert is unforgettable and in my opinion unmatched. I mean how many times have you gone to see someone in concert that sounds like complete crap compared to the polished studio cuts off their CD? Let me tell you...Sarah sounds BETTER in person...a true performer.
Anyway about this CD...I heard a few sneak previews at the concert last year and have been not so patiently waiting for this. It's absolutely amazing. She just keeps getting better. I've only had it for one day and I can't quite bring myself to switch to a different CD.

An excellent album!, September 25, 2005

I thoroughly enjoy Sarah Bettens' solo CD. As a huge fan of K's Choice, I was unsure what to expect from the sound of Sarah's voice on her own. But I should not have feared, as the album is equally as strong but in a unique way. Songs like "Come Over Here" strays from the typical K's Choice song, yet is a pleasant change. Her lyrics are captivating and beautiful, and I highly recommend this CD. "Stay", "Turn Around", "Go", "Sister" and "I'm Okay" are my favorites :) Enjoy!
