3.0 out of 5 stars All Questions Answered! Full Details Revealed!, September 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Since Lions Gate has been mum on the details/specs of this set, never even issuing a press release containing any info., I thought I'd take this opportunity to answer many of the unanswered questions for those who have yet to order:

1. The 3 movies are the exact same blu-rays that were released separately. Right down to the now dated ads and trailers that you cannot skip past. Same extra features (not many), same picture, same everything -- outside of the discs themselves which are all that generic grey "rental" version looking disc with no individual artwork. There is, as expected, NO director's cut of the original film included.

2. The 2 documentaries are on 1 disc, despite this being labeled as a 5 disc set when I (and many others) ordered it.

3. The 2 documentaries are in partial HD. "Scream: The Inside Story" goes between 1080i, 720p and 480p. The only parts in 480p are clips of the actual Scream movies. The rest, for unknown reasons (I suspect a glitch on the discs or a way to cram both docs onto one disc) jumps between 720p and, rarely, 1080p. If your blu-ray player upconverts, the only real noticeable changes are the film clips in "Scream: The Inside Story" being of significantly lesser quality. "Still Screaming" fares a little better with the film clips also being in HD.

4. Despite Lions Gate's website claiming the documentaries contain 4 hours of extras, including commentaries, etc. -- there are NO extras. The docs play in DTS Master Audio Stereo. The menu is static with the only options being to choose which documentary you want to play. Even if you are in the middle of watching one of the docs, it will start at the beginning if you even accidentally hit the stop button. There isn't a bookmark option and, most surprisingly, there ISN'T CLOSED CAPTIONING ON EITHER DOCUMENTARY. I think that is very important to note for those hard of hearing. It's an inexcusable omission.

5. The movies are just as you left them. Scream is an excellent little horror film. Scream 2 is a decent, somewhat drawn out sequel. Scream 3 is still an embarrassment (seriously, what are Jay and Silent Bob doing in this thing?). The movies DO have closed captioning available. Just not the docs.

6. The whole thing comes in one normally sized Blu-Ray case with a cardboard overlay. The 4th disc was warped over the 3rd disc in mine, which hasn't seemed to cause any problems, but was distressing when I first opened the package. The cardboard overlay and case itself have the same art as you see displayed at the top of this page.

7. I have just noticed Lions Gate removed the "5 film set" from their webpage entirely and replaced it with "Scream 1-3 Gift Set." The 5 film set was there as recently as Saturday. Maybe they didn't want to be seen falsely advertising the multiple hours of extras the documentaries included (which, as I mentioned above, aren't there).

Overall, I'm disappointed with this package. And I can see why Lions Gate did everything to HIDE the details from the general audience. If you like the Scream movies and don't yet own them, this is the best way to buy them as it's cheaper than it is to buy them individually (if you want all 3) and you get the two docs (as poorly presented as they are). If you already own the movies? I'd pass on this. Clearly there ARE extras out there for the docs and I suspect they'll sell the documentaries separately -- probably for under 10 bucks -- with closed captioning and all the extras included. The docs themselves, as bare-boned as they are, just aren't worth 20 bucks, if you already own the films.

I hope this review helped anyone on the fence make an educated decision as to whether or not the 4 disc collection is worth it for them. Thanks for reading!

This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
September 26th was a date etched in my brain. I could not wait for the arrival of the "Scream Trilogy: Box Set" let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Besided being the most successful horror series EVER, (yes people, even better than all 27 Friday the 13ths) it's really smart. The dialogue, characters and plot twists are exceptional. Of course, being directed by the MASTER of horror and suspense, Wes Craven, made it even better. This set is absolutely perfect. Each of the Scream films, all in widescreen, with Dolby Digital surround sound, audio commentary and loads of extras. The Scream extras include: 3 Behind The Scenes featurettes, trailers, TV Spots, Q&A with the cast and crew, special effect gallery, film facts etc. Scream 2's extras include: outtakes, deleted scenes, Production Featurette, music videos, trailer, TV Spots etc. Finally, Scream 3's DVD includes: Outtakes, Deleted Scenes, Alternate Ending, Trailers, TV Spots, music video, Behind the Scenes of all three Scream films and so much more. Finally, we get a bonus DVD. This is my favorite one of the set. It includes a 35 minute documentary titled, "Behind the Scream" includes interviews with the cast and crew; Outtakes from Scream, Screen tests, Sunrise Studio trailers, the "Stab 2" trailer, and the cutting room, where you can make your own version of the opening scene of "Scream 3." The set also comes with a 24 page Behind the Scenes book. including pictures, photos, a tribute to the victims etc. The cover comes in two separate parts, which is really cool. All in all, everyone MUST own this set, it's PERFECT!!!

This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
When I review a movie, especially a box set, I base my review on the bonus material and quality of the set in general. I think most people who buy movies from Amazon have usually seen the movies they are buying already.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for any Scream fans!, July 13, 2000
This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
This is definately a smart move by Buena Vista releasing the box set. The first 2 Scream movies DVD releases were sub-par in many aspects so the re-release is something that needed to be done. First off all, there are going to be 4 DVDs, Scream 1, Scream 2, Scream 3, and a 4th DVD with supplements. The supplements will include deleted scenes, alternative endings, outtakes, screen tests, trivia games, web links, and a "Screamsaver." Of course all 3 movies will be in Dolby Digital 5.1 and believe it or not, all three will be Anamorphic transfers. Where the first 2 were not. All in all this is going to be a great set to own! I've already ordered mine and anyone who loves Scream and loves extras will be in awe come September 26th.

5.0 out of 5 stars "IT'S A SCREAM, BABY!", August 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
I am so excited about the release of this boxed set, I can't even tell you. This is the movie trilogy that renewed my faith that Hollywood can still produce amazing, quality movies...and the trilogy that first turned me on to horror films. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any as brilliant, intelligent, risk-taking, terrifying, and hilarious as "The Scream Trilogy" (except maybe "What Lies Beneath," which came very close). Unlike most horror films, this series showcased brilliant writing, sly pop-culture and film references, wonderful acting, fully three-dimensional characters that you actually care about, and a wicked, dark sense of humor missing from most horror films. This series was able to simultaneously not take itself seriously by satirizing the horror genre and scare the pants off the audience members. The series is filled with classic scenes that are perfectly staged, such as the Drew Barrymore "Casey Becker" sequence at the beginning of the first one, the screening-room scene in the second, and the ingenious scene in the third where the main character, Sidney, truly relives her life as a movie, as the killer stalks her on a movie set that is identical to the home where she was first stalked in the first film. "Scream"'s sense of self-parody is most apparent in the "Stab" series, which is the film-within-a-film, a series of horror films based on the "true" experiences of Sidney Prescott in "Scream". This is a series of films that must be seen to be believed; that is brilliantly directed by Wes Craven to focus less on actual gore and more on stylish and atmospheric fear. The mask itself is a perfect vision of terror. It mimics Munch's famous painting, "The Scream," and shows remorselessness, cold-blooded evil, and even mocking the victim. Any major fan of horror films, or films in general (because there are many references to all kinds of films), cannot miss any of the three amazing films in this series. Probably the greatest achievement of "The Scream Trilogy" is that it has surpassed all other horror movies in this regard: it has discovered the key to making horror sequels that are equal to or better than the original! That is a hard feat, and is one that is accomplished by all of the things I have already said, and most importantly the characters, who you deeply care about and become emotionally invested in. Watch and find out if the characters you grow to love so much can survive through three films of terror.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Scream Fan Must Own This, September 23, 2001
By
Gary (Dillon, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
The Ultimate Scream Colection is the definitive piece of merchandise that any TRUE Scream fan must own. The package itself contains all three films on DVD, a special bonus disc, and a collector's booklet. I'll start off with ...

SCREAM - This is what started the whole franchise. A year after her mother was murdered, Sidney Presscott suddenly realizes that the terror isn't over, and that she's being stalked by a masked figure in a ghost costume with an unknown motive. All of her friends are either targets or suspects, and you don't know which until the shocking finale. Neve Campbell, Rose McGowan, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard, and Drew Barrymore star in this clever and brilliant thriller which is sure to give you a rush. The DVD itself contains excellent extras and the picture and sound are both terrific. Grade: 5 stars

SCREAM 2 - After the horrific events several years ago, Sidney tries moving on with her life. Now, she's in college with a promising life ahead. But someone is trying to put a stop to it. Along with Sidney, the other surviving original characters from the first return, Dewey Riley, Gale Weathers, and Randy Meeks. Soon, the terror and mayhem begins all over again and Sidney realizes that someone is trying to recreate the terrifying events of Woodsboro. She realizes that no one is safe. Not her, or her friends. Newcomers include Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jada Pinkett, Jerry O'Connell, Elise Neal, and Timothy Olyphant. Scream 2 is packed with excellent chase scenes and great dialogue. In some ways, it's better than the first. The DVD also has great extras and the sound and picture are perfect. Grade: 5 stars

SCREAM 3 - Sidney is now living in seclusion where no one knows her true whereabouts. But the terror itself isn't over. Someone is lurking trying to find out where Sidney is. This film takes place in Hollywood on the set of Stab 3. Soon the cast of Stab 3 starts dying, and Sidney realizes that once again, the terror isn't over. She decides to face her fear and come out of hiding. Sidney, along with Gale and Dewey soon learn that this is a TRILOGY and that things you thought were true weren't necesarily that way. True trilogies go all the way back to the beginning. Parker Posey is a new addition to the series in this film, and she's excellent. The film itself falls short of the first two, but not by much. It's still a great joyride. Grade: 4 stars.

Bonus Disc & Collector's Booklet - The bonus disc contains lots of extras including a Behind the Scream documentary, Sunrise Studio trailers, and The Cutting Room Floor where you can take deleted scenes from the film and make your very own. The booklet contains all the inside information about the Scream films including merchandise, pictures, the body count of all three scream films, and a summary of each film. This is the ULTIMATE collection for any Scream fan. Anything you could possibly want to know about the Scream films is contained in packet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Scream box set- The best of horror, October 13, 2000
By
Dean Sullivan (Tredegar, Wales, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
When I first watched Scream I didn't know what to expect, I didn't really like horror movies and only watch it as all my college friends were. The result to me was simple; I don't think I ever enjoyed a film as much. Scream was very original in the way its story was told within three chapters, similar to the methods used in The Godfather trilogy, and Star Wars. Many people would probably be disgusted that I used the Godfather and star wars in the same review as Scream, but Scream is one of my favourite all-time movies. The original script by Kevin Williamson was incredible, and it re-unlighted the slasher/horror movie. Wes Craven's directions was first rate (even although I didn't really like any other of his movies), it didn't have the same amount of gore as many pervious horror films include (in which I include 'The Candy Man', which was a very good film, but relied on too much gore), instead its left a lot of the actual images to yourself. The disk was released twice in the USA, including the normal edition and the collector's edition. The normal edition was a very, very basic disk. It was a great picture quality, and superb sound, but nothing else. The collector's edition (Included within this set) is a far site better disk. It is basically the same as the VHS version, with better sound and picture quality. This version is a few minutes longer, and shows much more gore in two of the killings. Also included is a behind the scenes featurette. Scream was a crowd-pleasing hit, which encouraged me to watch horror movies again, so I couldn't wait for the sequel. So then there was number two.

Scream 2 was an eagerly waited sequel, but didn't really live up to the hype, but don't get me wrong I really liked the movie, but it didn't have the some possibilities as the original. The movie is very entertaining and has a well-toned script by Williamson. This was still much better than any of the other recent horrors. The features are very limited again, but the collector's edition (included within the set) does have a behind-the scenes feature not included within the normal version .

When Scream 3 was released, I had to see it, but I didn't really expect a lot. Scream 3 was brilliant, maybe not as good as the first, but better than the second. The number of possible killer was again huge and the twists regular. The story sorta goes like this.... its the set of Stab 3, and the killings again start, with the cast members being killed in the order they were in the script. Dewy is on set as a technical advisor, and Gail Weathers is helping the police find the killer. The murders revolve around the life of Sydney's (who's living in the woods, but soon becomes involved) mother Maureen Prescott. This in turn then explains the basis of all the movies, and why the whole thing started. Scream 3 completes the story; it is very clever film and without doubt the best horror since Scream. The DVD has some nice features, but the deleted scenes and alternate ending are very poor. The picture quality and sound is again outstanding.

The set also includes a fourth disk which includes various features from the trilogy. This in my opinion is the best box set available on the market, so get it for Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars WE ALL GO A LITTLE MAD SOMETIMES, October 16, 2003
By
This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
The first SCREAM was a sensational, inspired, brilliant hit that was sooo frightening because it was so true to life. The acting was exquisite, and especially tense in the beginning scene with Drew Barrymore. Neve Campbell is excellent as Sidney Prescott, and Skeet Ulrich portrays Billy very well. Jamie Kennedy is great as Randy; Matthew Lillard is a good comedic relief as Stu; David Arquette is excellent as Dewey; Courtney Cox is relishing in her rudeness as Gale; and Rose McGowan is the perfect actress for Tatum. Everything about the first film is basically the definition of perfection in the horror/thriller genre. Then, in part two, the acting is exquisite again, and the horror is so real and terrifying. Not as good as part one, but one of the best sequels I have seen. "Scream 3" has some of the cliched horror movie flaws that make it less believable, but still, very frightening. Good job, Wes Craven. What a brilliant director! Kevin Williamson is an exceptional writer, and everyone involved has done wonderfully. I highly recommend this box set for fans of "SCREAM" and of movies similar to "SCREAM". It has great extra features. There's a whole disc of extra features, including the Making Of all three Screams.
